3 Becomes Britney’s 3rd #1 Song!
Billboard reports Britney Spears becomes the first artist in over three years to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, to be released tomorrow (Oct. 15), as “3″ opens at the pinnacle of the chart. Her new track, a racy paean to the joys of three-way sex from the upcoming hits set “The Singles Collection,” due Nov. 24, shifts 255,000 downloads in its first week of release, also propelling it to No. 1 on Digital Songs. The title also jumps 38-25 on the Pop Songs chart and debuts at No. 49 on Radio Songs/Hot 100 Airplay, which ranks songs based on airplay audience on all radio formats.
“3″ is the first title to debut at No. 1 since Taylor Hicks’ “American Idol” victory song “Do I Make You Proud” did so on the chart dated July 1, 2006. In fact, the last four songs to open at No. 1 were all “American Idol”-related. Prior to Hicks, Carrie Underwood’s “Inside Your Heaven” (July 2, 2005), “I Believe” by Fantasia (July 10, 2004) and Clay Aiken’s “This Is The Night” each debuted at No. 1. The last non-”Idol” song to open at No. 1 was Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” on Nov. 14, 1998. “3″ is Spears’ third Hot 100 No. 1. Her debut single “…Baby One More Time” spent two weeks at No. 1 in 1999 and “Womanizer” spent a sole frame at the top, exactly one year ago this week, on the chart dated Oct. 25, 2008.
Britney Spears’ NYC Fans Say Circus Show Has ‘Sparks’
MTV News reports For the first of three shows that Britney Spears will be performing at Madison Square Garden this week, in the second leg of her Circus tour, fans came out in droves to catch a peek of the pop star performing some of her choicest tunes.
And those fans were still stoked after the concert was over. “It was like a circus!” Laura told MTV News just moments after the show wrapped. “She worked really hard. She was all oiled up. ‘Womanizer’ [was my favorite]. Everybody loved it.”
Another fan, Chris Dilella, caught the Circus the last time it came to town, but he felt that Britney definitely kept it fresh this time around. “Britney is absolutely awesome, and she’s amazing,” he said. “I feel like some of the song she did at the end, they changed a little. I liked ‘Circus’ in the beginning. I liked the sparks.”
After seeing the concert, young fan Lauren couldn’t help but pick Britney as her favorite over a newbie pop princess. “I love Britney. She’s my role model,” she said. “She’s better than Miley Cyrus. My favorite song is ‘Circus.’ ”
Meanwhile, a few of Britney’s international fans weighed in on the singer’s pop princess status and gave her a promotion after seeing her perform. “The new queen of pop,” one fan from England said. “It used to be Madonna, but now Britney Spears. She’s amazing.”

Womanizer #1 On Billboard Jumps 96 Places!
Billboard reports Another week, another record-breaking jump to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Britney Spears makes a near-maximum 96-1 rise with “Womanizer,” returning to the top of the list for the first time since her debut single “…Baby One More Time” hit No. 1 in January 1999.
This is the third time in the past two months that the mark for the biggest jump to No. 1 has been shattered. On the Hot 100 dated Sept. 6, T.I. soared 71-1 with “Whatever You Like” and last week he sprinted 80-1 with “Live Your Life.”
Spears’ single is spurred by first-week download sales of 286,000, the biggest opening-week tally by a female artist since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking digital downloads in 2003, besting Mariah Carey’s take for “Touch My Body” by just over 200 units.
In between her nearly 10-year gap between No. 1s, Spears has placed four other top 10s on the Hot 100, the last being “Gimme More,” the first single from her last set, “Blackout.” That song jumped 68-3 last October with first-week download sales of 179,000.
“Womanizer” previews Spears’ sixth studio set “Circus,” due Dec. 2 via Jive.
