Napster May Be Able To Relax Its Filtering System
Sonicnet.com reported
that the judge in Napster's copyright infringement case gave the
service and its users some breathing room in a memorandum issued
Thursday. The music industry, not Napster, is responsible for
tracking down specific file names used to identify copyrighted
songs, Judge Marilyn Patel said, citing guidelines set by the
U.S. Court of Appeals. Napster recently tightened its filtering
in an effort to block the seemingly endless variations of file
names on its system, which are generated by users. The result,
Napster said Thursday, has been "overblocking" — the unintentional
blacklisting of songs no one has asked to have blocked. Patel's
memorandum appears to give the service a legal justification to
loosen its filtering system. Under the rules outlined in the memorandum,
Napster is not obligated to block a file that identifies the singer
of a Britney Spears track as "BritneySpear" unless the music labels
specifically identify it. A.J. Nichols, a technical expert appointed
in the case, is preparing a report on possible ways to improve
Napster's filtering system in the future, Patel said. A spokesperson
for Napster declined to comment on the memorandum, and an RIAA
spokesperson did not return a call seeking comment.

Britney Will Not Appear on Pepsi Apparel
Pepsi-Cola on Thursday said it plans to create new lines of apparel,
footwear and accessories that reflect the images of its Pepsi
and Mountain Dew brands. Pepsi-Cola already sells logo items,
such as T-shirts, hats and duffel bags with the Pepsi globe design,
on a Pepsi Web site at http://www.pepsicolastore.com
and through premium catalogs. But the items in this new line will
break away from that conventional branding and focus on the images
of the drinks, not their logos. The Pepsi and Mountain Dew logos
are set to be featured only on the new items' tags. Pepsi-Cola
is just getting into the design phase of the project, spokesman
Larry Jabbonsky told Reuters. Jabbonsky said Pepsi-Cola will be
trying to capture the images of the brands' audiences. The Mountain
Dew items will likely be activewear, while the Pepsi line will
have a more urban feel. Mountain Dew, Pepsi-Cola's caffeinated
lemon-lime flavored soft drink, has a strong teen following. Pepsi-Cola
already sells items such as board shorts, a sport watch and a
backpack that feature a Mountain Dew design. The new line, to be
sold at mass merchandise stores in the United States and Canada,
is set to launch for the spring 2002 fashion season, Pepsi-Cola
said in a statement.Pepsi-Cola has already launched a television
advertising campaign featuring teen pop star Britney Spears promoting
its main Pepsi drink. Spears's image will not appear on the items.

Girl With Cancer Met Britney
South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported
that "She hugged me," 9-year-old Katie Pack said glowingly on
Friday, after returning from a cross-country jaunt to meet pop
singer Britney Spears in Los Angeles. "I have the pictures to
prove it." The impromptu trip was an exhausting but joyous one
for the third-grader, who is battling inoperable brain cancer.
Her mother, Vickie Pack, said Katie smiled the entire time. The
specially arranged meeting proved to be everything a little girl
might dream of: Spears posed for pictures, cuddled, signed autographs,
talked about her boyfriend and even gave Katie a pair of shoes
she had worn. Spears also sent home autographed hats for each
of Katie's four older brothers. "It went so well. She was so sweet
to Katie," said Pack, 40, who accompanied her daughter on the
trip. Katie met Britney on Wednesday night on the set of a movie
the star is filming in Saugus, Calif. The two chatted in Britney's
private dressing room trailer. "You couldn't have asked for anything
more," Pack said. Katie, a dog lover, learned that 19-year-old
Britney has four dogs (two German shepherd guard dogs, a Yorkshire
terrier and a miniature poodle), has bought a new house and loves
the color powder blue. She has one older brother and a younger
sister who just turned 10, Katie said. Britney told Katie she
collects fairies, after noticing the angel charm hanging on a
chain around the Coral Springs Elementary student's neck. Katie
collects bears. "She was prettier than I thought," Katie said.
"She was very nice." Employees at Maroone Chevrolet in Delray
Beach, Fort Lauderdale and west Miami-Dade County paid for the
Packs' plane tickets, then collected $1,000 for spending money.
Katie's maternal grandfather, Gordon Horton, works at Maroone
in Delray Beach. Employee Shelby Miller used movie industry connections
to arrange the meeting with Spears. Thanks Andy.

Reaction On Britney's New Book on Amazon
dotmusic
reported that Britney Spears looks set to split her fanbase and
critics down the middle, after her debut novel was greeted with
wildly conflicting reactions in America. 'A Mother's Gift', penned
by teenage pop princess Spears and her mother Lynne, has received
a mixed response in the US, as UK readers prepare for a May release.
The book, which is classed as a children's novel, tells the story
of Holly Faye Lovell's rise from rags to riches. Random House
paid £700,000 for the publishing rights in Britain. However, readers
in America have contacted Amazon to inform them of their reactions
to the book, which one anguished reader claims is "enough to make
you ill", reports the BBC. "The whole story line is already so
cotton-candy sweet, dripping with pure sugar that it's enough
to make you ill. The ending only added to the sweetness and it
just made me groan", she insisted. But the opposite reaction has
been expressed by one overwhelmed reader, who stated: "Salman
Rushdie, move over. Britney Spears is here and she is the greatest
writer ever!!!" Perhaps more worryingly, one reader claimed: "Spears
thematically depicts the Marxian-Existential conflict in her moving
work, and she does so with characteristic artistic ingenuity."
Also if you still have not bought the book, make sure you go to
Amazon.com
and purchase it.

that Katie Pack idolizes pop singer Britney Spears, and today,
the third-grader will meet her in Los Angeles. The impromptu trip,
arranged by her grandfather's co-workers, is a dream come true
for Katie, 9, who is battling a cancerous brain tumor that is
quickly consuming her life. "I'm going to ask her if she has a
dog," said Katie, cuddling her pet boxer Sandy just hours before
departing on Tuesday. "I'm also going to ask her if she really
dates Justin Timberlake from [the pop group] N'Sync." The Coral
Springs Elementary student will spend the day at Universal Studios,

Britney Is Not Yet Engaged With Justin
FALSE RUMOR: Ananova reported
Britney Spears is to get engaged to Justin Timberlake, according
to a British newspaper. The pair are expected to make the official
announcement just before Britney releases her third album in the
autumn. The news is said to have been leaked in an internal memo
from her record company Jive. The memo also suggests planting
stories about Britney appearing at a Madonna gig, to attain publicity
for the singer, the Sunday People reports.
The news is false because the internal Jive memo is a work of
fiction, and was written by one of her fans.

USA Today Reviews Britney's New Book
USA Today has put up a review
of Britney and Lynn Spears' book "A Mother's Gift." Britney Spears,
novelist? If Stephen King can have a rock band, why not? A Pepsi
commercial one day, a novel the next; it's all in a day's work
for our energetic superstar. Britney's already a veteran author.
She and her mother, Lynne Spears, co-wrote Britney Spears' Heart
to Heart, a popular memoir about the young singer's rise to stardom
and her tight-as-ticks relationship with Lynne. Now Britney and
her mom are doing it one more time. Today, Delacorte Press is
flooding the country with half a million copies of the pair's
first stab at fiction for young readers, A Mother's Gift ($14.95).
Now, Britney may have been a fine student in her time, but it's
doubtful the teenage pop princess had much to do with crafting
this 226-page ''inspirational'' novel, whose message seems to
be to love your mom, even if she isn't your mom. (We can't say
more, for fear of spoiling the ''surprise'' ending.) But Britney's
rags-to-riches story and her best-friend relationship with Lynne
(who even has her own ''Corner'' on her daughter's official Web
site) certainly inspired some smart agent or editor. The heroines
of A Mother's Gift are 14-year-old Holly Faye Lovell, who, as
the flap copy says, ''sure can sing,'' and her ever-lovin' single
mom, Wanda, the local seamstress in the tiny town of Biscay, Miss.
Biscay is the kind of place where people go to Wal-Mart for excitement,
neighbors bring over hot pecan tarts just to be nice, and pink
lemonade is the drink of choice. To read more go
here. Also if you still have not bought the book, buy it from
Amazon.com.
Britney at #3 on The Lycos 50
Britney went up to the #3 position on The

A Mother's Gift In Stores
Britney and Lynn Spears' second book, "A Mother's Gift" has already
shipped half a million copies to stores all over the nation. A
portion of the proceeds from this book will go to The Britney
Spears Foundation. You can buy a copy of the book from Amazon.com
for $11.96.
ABOUT THIS BOOK:
Holly Faye Lovell sure can sing. Everyone in Biscay, Mississippi,
knows that. And when at fourteen she becomes the youngest student
ever to win a scholarship to the prestigious Haverty School of
Music, her dream of pursuing a singing career is on its way. But
for the first time in her life, Holly must leave behind her mother,
Wanda. Although they don’t have much in the way of money, there’s
always been plenty of love . . . and there’s always been Wanda’s
birthmark, an ugly red scar on the side of her face that makes
people who don’t know her turn away. Now that Holly's off with
her posh new friends and new life, she’s ashamed to find herself
embarrassed by her mom and their humble background. And Wanda
finds herself wanting to reveal a long-hidden secret . . . a secret
that could destroy their bond forever.

Charlotte Church thinks Britney Go Too Far
Ananova reported
that Charlotte Church thinks Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera
go too far in their raunchy videos. Charlotte's album Dream A Dream
outsold Christina's over the Christmas period in the US. She is
currently touring the US, ending with three nights at the Hollywood
Bowl in July. Charlotte, 15, told the New York Post: "I think Britney
looks great, and so does Christina, but in their videos they don't
need to do all that stuff they do. Christina especially has an amazing
amount of talent, she doesn't have to do that. "But ultimately that's
the market that's been created, and that's just what's going to
happen. It's not something you can blame on them, really. You can't
stop it now." Thanks World

Britney and Justin's Home Stays Empty
PeopleNews reported
that when Britney Spears forked out £2 million on a Mediterranean-style
villa in Los Angeles, everyone was convinced she would move in with
boyfriend Justin Timberlake. However, this idea has been torpedoed
by their parents, who have banned the couple from living together
before their wedding day. Now fresh-faced N'Sync singer Timberlake,
19, has been forced to shell out for a bachelor pad around the corner
from his girlfriend. ‘You can see one place from the other – they
are just a stone’s throw away,’ said a source. 'They obviously want
to be close as they can without living under the same roof,' he
added. Most of the pressure has come from Britney’s mother Lynne,
who has insisted that her daughter remain a virgin until she walks
up the aisle. But, despite all this parental pressure, the couple
insist that they have no plans to marry. Thanks to Erlend.
Dido Writes For Britney
dotmusic reported
that Dido has written two songs for US sensation Britney Spears,
according to a UK tabloid report. The British songstress, who made
it big on both sides of the Atlantic after singing on Eminem's hit
'Stan', has teamed up with the 19-year-old to help produce several
tracks as well as pen new material. It's thought that both of Dido's
songs will appear on the pop princess' next long-player, which is
set to surface later this year. As yet no titles have been revealed.
An insider told 'The Sun': "This is a clear sign that Dido is now
massive in America. There is no bigger accolade than being asked
to write for Britney."

Britney Laughed While Kissing In Her New Movie
dotmusic reported
that Britney Spears exploded with laughter when she was filming
a steamy scene for her debut movie 'Going On The Road'. Then 19-year-old
singer will be seen in the midst of a romantic clinch with a hitchhiker
during the film and according to British tabloid 'The Mirror' she
couldn't keep a straight face on set. An "insider" told the newspaper:
"Britney was pretty nervous when she had to film the love scene,
so everyone tried to put her at ease. "It started off really well
but halfway through the kiss they both exploded into fits of giggles.
I don't think the actor minded in the least because it meant he
got to kiss her all over again." Britney plays a teenage girl who
takes off on a road trip across the US with two pals. The trio compete
against each other in a music contest, after picking up a hitchhiker
on their journey. Thanks A51JM.

Britney and Madonna Collaboration Not Happening
dotmusic reported
that Britney Spears has revealed that her proposed collaboration
with Madonna was scuppered by "record-company" politics. The Princess
of Pop told a US magazine that she had been very keen to record
a duet with her idol, but was unable to bypass the music business
red-tape. "I think if I had called her and said, 'Let's do a song
together', it would have been cool, but with record-company politics,
I don't think it's going to work out." Ms Spears has also been spilling
the beans on her relationship with *N Sync singer Justin Timberlake,
who she describes as "such an individual". "He's an Aquarius, so
he's all about being independent, basically the same as me. We have
to have our freedom." She revealed: "That's what's really cool with
J, because he's such an individual when we come together, it's great."

BritneySpears.org on Britney's Bonus CD
Thanks to eaglehawk for letting me know in Australia when you pick
the Special Edition copy of the OIDIA with a bonus CD. The bonus
CD has all the videos from OIDIA and down the bottom next to the
links for britneyspears.com and britney.com is britneyspears.org!
Also thanks to ladyfingers for taking a screencap of the link, which
can be seen by clicking the image below.
Earlier today we removed the cd screen cap of the bonus CD that
came with the OIDIA CD. Since then, several different Britney fans
from Australia have verified that it is indeed true. As for the
different shades of white on the links - - considering the background
image contains gradient fills from dark blue to black the font colors
and shades automatically change with the gradient. That was verified
by two of efanguide's best graphic designers. LadyFingers and Eaglehawk,

Britney Third Top Britian Radio Hit
BBC News reported
that Britney Spears has been the third most played artist on British
radio. The figures were compiled from commercial and BBC radio stations
playlists across Britain and were announced at the radio and music
industries' annual conference, Music Radio, in central London on
Tuesday. Texas, Britney Spears, Gabrielle, Madonna, The Corrs and
Shania Twain were the only artists, along with Robbie Williams,
to make the top 20 for consecutive years. Last year Britney was
number four. Thanks A51JM.

Family Celebration Benefit Concert in Beverly Hills
A51JM let me know that WENN reported
that Britney Spears, Calista Flockhart, and Whoopi Goldberg were
among stars who turned out to join former American President Bill
Clinton at Hollywood's second annual Family Celebration. The entire
cast of Ally McBeal were honoured for their charitable work at last
night's (01APR01) event, as was actor Sylvester Stallone and Bye
Bye Bye pop hunks 'Nsync. Sister Act star Goldberg admitted she
isn't a fan of big Hollywood parties - but braved the media attention
to give her pal Clinton some support. She said, "I'm not particularly
excited to be here, but I came to do a toast to Bill Clinton who
is my friend, and nobody else could get me out of my house but him."
During the course of the evening thousands of dollars (pounds) were
raised for a variety of different charities, picked out by the individual
honorees. For Lance Bass, who performed live at the event with his
'N Sync bandmates, charity is all about giving back to the children
who put him where he is. He says, "It's great to celebrate charities,
and we support all children's charities. Children are what it's
all about. I can't wait to be a father myself some time in the future."
Reuters even put up a picture
of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake arriving at a Family
Celebration Benefit Concert in Beverly Hills.
Eminem and Britney 'Most Overrated Stars In Showbiz'
Ananova reported
that Eminem and Britney Spears are the most overrated stars in showbusiness,
according to a US poll. The pair are also credited with having the
worst records ever to appear in the US charts. Almost half of Jane
magazine readers voted Eminem's Marshall Mathers album most overrated.
Another 28% voted for Britney's album Oops! I Did It Again. Third
place went to the Backstreet Boys' Black and Blue. When asked whose
fame they just can't explain, 28% named Eminem and 27% voted for
Spears. Jane also asked which newlywed Hollywood couple is most
likely to succeed. Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston came top of the
poll, but Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman came in second, the New York
Post reports. Thanks to Britney

We have gotten word from THE WB that they are working on a new TV
show, starring Britney Spears as herself in "Britney The Singing
Slayer". The show will be airing on Thursday nights, starting next
fall. We even got a prototype of the ad, which they are going to
use to promote the show in magazines. To look at the ad click
here. I am really excited about the show, how about everyone
else? Let us know what you think at BritneySpearsForum.com
