Companies Plugged By Celebrities
Star-powered advertising is a pricey marketing tool, but it's effective, and that's why U.S. companies continue to shell out billions of dollars for celebrity brand endorsements. "Celebrity endorsements can be a perfect example of having a symbol that makes a connection with the audience that you're trying to target, and it can help increase your market share," says Claire Rosenzweig, executive director of Promotion Marketing Association, a nonprofit trade organization. According to Mark Swartzberg, beverage analyst at ABN Amro, PepsiCo spent $1.3 billion on advertising for its snacks and beverage business globally in both 1999 and 2000. It's now using teen icon Britney Spears to entice young consumers. Coca-Cola is using Spears' rival, Christina Aguilera, to reach the same audience.

Artful Dodger are set to play MOBOfest in London's Victoria Park on August 4.
