Madonna: Britney Her "Little Sister"

Posted by Kaos at 7:07 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous TeenMusic reports Music legend Madonna has dubbed pop protege Britney Spears her "little sister".

The chart-topping pair have been inseparable since kissing onstage at the MTV Video Music Awards in August - and Madonna has since appeared in the video for Britney's new single Me Against the Music.

And the 45-year-old says since the pair became pals, she has imparted some invaluable advice to 21-year-old Britney.

Madonna says, "I see her as my little sister. She asks me career advice. For the most part I try to make her understand this isn't real life and she can't take everything people say seriously.

"I can understand some of the stuff she's been going through. I help her with that."

Britney Rules the Pop Charts

Posted by A51JM at 4:02 PM | Discuss

Rank Reported from: Reuters

Pop princess Britney Spears, aided by a publicity blitzkrieg, steamrollered to number one on the music charts on Wednesday, while a new album by scandal-plagued Michael Jackson failed to make the Top 10, the Nielsen Soundscan sales tracking service said.

Spears' new album, "In the Zone," which features songs like "Breathe on Me" and "Touch of My Hand," has been carefully aided by a publicity barrage to replace her now passe schoolgirl image with an edgier, sexier persona.

In the weeks leading up to her album's debut, the 21-year-old Spears has posed scantily clad for various magazine covers, appeared in several television interviews and caused a major stir by kissing Madonna during the MTV Video Music Awards.

The marketing apparently worked, sending "In The Zone," released by Jive, a unit of Bertelsmann AG's BMG, to No. 1 for the week ended Nov 23, selling an estimated 609,000 units, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

"Everybody's buying Britney. Certainly the TV blitz helped to get greater exposure and I think Britney will sustain the sales pace in her second week," said Sue Bryan, general manager for J&R Music Store in lower Manhattan.

Britney Had A Disappointing Debut In Britain

Posted by Kaos at 6:21 PM | Discuss

Music Contact Music reports BRITNEY SPEARS's 'comeback' album has entered the British album charts at a disappointing number 14 - prompting speculation over the shaky future of her pop career.

New LP IN THE ZONE was meant to return Britney to the top of the pop charts following a tumultuous career break, but she was beaten out by other artists such as MICHAEL JACKSON, KYLIE MINOGUE, DIDO and even Welsh opera star BRYN TERFEL.

And despite headline-grabbing antics, like kissing MADONNA onstage at the MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS, posing partially nude for magazine covers and confessing about her heartbreak over her split with JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, her album sales are still a shadow of what they once were.

A source says, "Britney was really nervous about her album not doing well, and she knew if this album bombed her career might be over.

"She had aspirations for a film career and hoped this would kick-start it."

Britney Spears has revealed that she loves her gay fans and believes that they can connect with the “intensity and emotion” of her music.

In an interview promoting her new album, Britney said that gay men "are more deeply in touch with their emotions. They’re not fearful of revealing their hearts.

"They can easily connect with intensity and emotion — whether it is about love or enjoying life or anything that comes from the gut. I think they can feel that my music comes from that place. It comes from my gut.”

She went onto say that when she travels the country she always looks out for the gay clubs because they are are usually the best places to dance.

“Well, gay clubs are the best places to hit if you want to be exposed to cool new music. My gay friends are like my best girlfriends. We go shopping and hang and just have a blast,” she said.

“My best gay-male friend will tell me straight up about anything, like ‘Girlfriend, those pants are making your butt look big.’ You’ve gotta love that kind of honesty.”

Story About Father and Daughters Meeting Britney Before TRL

Posted by LordBiO at 6:35 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous This is not news but still interesting, it's a story of what a father went through to have his daughters meet Britney Spears and a recount of the whole encounter:

A while back, I made a donation to the Britney Spears Foundation (among other things - they send underprivileged children to a summer performing arts camp). Because of my donation, my girls (now ages 12 & 7) would get to meet with Britney.

It took a while longer than promised to arrange the meeting. In the meantime, Britney's mother sent us a two-page handwritten letter apologizing for the delay and promising the meeting would certainly happen. They sent us about 6 or 7 items signed by Britney (tour books, photos etc) during this time. Between Britney's mom & dad, we received about 4 packages via FedEx (from Britney's HOME ADDRESS in Kentwood, LA). I also received a nice phone call from Britney's personal assistant, Felicia).

Then we got THE CALL. A great guy (I'll have to call him Bill) from Britney's office. "Hi Dan. Can you guys get to MTV's TRL on Tuesday, Nov. 18?"

"Duh...Yes!"

When we got outside the Times Square studios at 4:00 there were people EVERYWHERE - on both sides of Times Sq. and down the middle island as well. Groups singing Britney songs and holding up signs in the hope of getting a glimpse of her through the MTV window on the second floor.

Z100 Slams Britney

Posted by Kaos at 10:51 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Thanks to Graphix11 for posting this in our forums.

Z100 Morning show did a whole little segment on her this morning (about last night's interview). They said that when she walked down the hallway, everyone had to close their door so no one(in their offices) could see her. They said that she lypsynchs at all her shows, and that she doesn't care about her fans anymore - not signing autographs for fans (even people at the intervews last night) They said that they remember when she came in during her "Baby" days, and she was so sweet.

They made a point that the reason Madonna lasted so long is because she was so nice to everyone and to her fans. "If you act the way you act and when you begin to fade, nobody's going to care"

They said that she has become a celebrity. "There are artist, musicians and there are celebrities." They said that she's told what to do, even last night...they put masking tape as a line to where she cannot pass to go into the audience - The segment ended with Elvis (lead VJ there) "We will continue to play her music - as long as you guys want us to play it. Im not going to lie to you, there some really good songs on her new album...but I just wanted to let you know what went on backstage last night!"

This can't be good for her promotions. I don't know what to believe because they are ALWAYS slamming her on the Morning Show. Like last week when they played a clip of her crying on Diane Sawyer, this is what they said "She felt like an idiot!......I mean the camera's on you and you have to show your "real" self. I'd rather see Britney smoke, or do drugs"

They were telling winners last week when they were giving out tix for last night's interview to say "HI" to Britney for them b/c her management doesn't like them very much. I can't blame them for feeling that way. I don't think she'll ever do an interview w/ the Morning Show anytime soon.

"In The Zone" On Track To Sell 550,000 At #1

Posted by LordBiO at 2:49 PM | Discuss

Rank HITS Daily Double reported that Britney's "In The Zone" is on track to sell 550,000 in it's first week and will be this week's #1 selling album!

Looks like she’s In the Zone, all right.

Yep, Britney Spears’ new Jive album is hitting its marks and then some. The collection is on track to sell a whopping 550k in its first week and may even hit 600k, according to early reports from national accounts. Guess having Madonna for a mentor doesn’t hurt.

Indeed, reports indicate the post-teenpop sexpot is handily beating expectations and selling well across the board. Albino boa constrictors for everyone!

Chart-wise, Britney will reign as next week’s #1 unchallenged. As for #2, Blink presumably has the best shot, but it all depends on how this week’s dueling 400k-plus rap debuts in Jay-Z and 2Pac hold up. Throw in The Beatles and you could be looking at next week’s Top Five.

Britney: Justin Has Something Small

Posted by Kaos at 12:49 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Contact MusicPop beauty BRITNEY SPEARS has embarrassed her former beau JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE on a new TV documentary, by hinting the singer has a small penis.

The ME AGAINST THE MUSIC star dealt a blow to Timberlake's reputation as a ladies' man by announcing she was "just a little bitter" about their high-profile split, emphasising the words "just" and "little" while using her thumb and finger to indicate a tiny length.

An insider on the MTV special, IN THE ZONE + OUT ALL NIGHT, says, "She didn't actually use Justin's name but as she always says he has been her only lover, it must have been him she was talking about.

"After she said it she fell about laughing with her camera crew."

Fans Camp Out in NY for Spears CD, Critics Unmoved

Posted by Kaos at 12:44 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Yahoo! News reports Critics may not have been moved by Britney Spears (news)' album, "In the Zone," released on Tuesday, but hundreds of excited fans were inspired to camp out in Times Square to get the pop star to sign a copy of the CD.

Five hundred people, some who had waited three days outside the Virgin Megastore, were ushered into a room where they would meet Spears, 21, and get her autograph on a CD The New York Times called "almost perversely devoid of personality."

"Nothing Britney does could suck," said Jessica Mullen, one of the first in line.

Nearby were Mirta Delacruz and her 16-year-old son, Charles, who had been in line since Sunday after flying in from Miami expressly for the chance to meet Spears.

"He's a loyal Britney fan and I'm his mom and I'm here and supporting him. She's a good role model," she said.

Spears' fourth album is intended to showcase the personal and musical evolution of the former children's television performer turned teen-aged sex symbol as she embraces adulthood.

Many critics have commented that Spears' vocals are closer to sex sounds than singing.

New York's Daily News said she "doesn't so much sing as heavy breathe in rhythm." The New York Post said her CD was "oversexed," and the Times said Spears "works hard to prove that she's hot-blooded, although she sounds colder than ever."

Delacruz said there was nothing wrong with any of that.

"She's provocative. There's no nasty words, she doesn't bring violence. Britney brings love and unity to the kids," she said. "So what if she shows a little skin? Thumbs up for Britney Spears."

Charles Delacruz said he's been following Spears since he first saw her on "The Mickey Mouse Club" when he was 4.

"She keeps growing and growing and growing into new things," he said. "I think she's great."

Britney Gets Star on Walk of Fame

Posted by LordBiO at 10:01 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Yahoo! Launch reported that Part of Hollywood Boulevard is now "In the Zone" of Britney Spears . The pop star received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Monday before nearly 2,000 screaming fans.

The event took place one day after her corset-jiggling appearance on the American Music Awards and a day before her latest album, "In the Zone," was set to arrive in stores.

She arrived at the ceremony in jeans, a pink shirt and a furry pink jacket, and immediately began signing posters and magazines for admirers. One young woman, perched on a friend's shoulders, leaned over a barricade and begged Spears to touch her hand — then exploded in tears when the singer complied.

"I'm seriously speechless right now," Spears told the crowd. "This is something that I've dreamt about since I was a little girl. I can't believe I'm actually here with all of you amazing fans. Hello?"

At 21, Spears tied with former "Little House on the Prairie" actress Melissa Gilbert for being the youngest person to accept a Walk of Fame star. Gilbert, now 39 and president of the Screen Actors Guild , received her honor in 1985.

Spears made funny faces at friends and giggled as Johnny Grant, the Walk of Fame master of ceremonies and chairman of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce , introduced her by reading the names of her singles and albums.

The performer has gone from posing as a schoolgirl to sing "... Baby, One More Time" and saying sex should be saved for marriage to recording "I'm a Slave 4 U," kissing Madonna during the MTV Video Music Awards and posing nearly nude for magazine covers.

Her latest album, aimed at crafting an edgier image, includes moaning and heavy breathing on tracks such as "Breathe on Me" and "Touch of My Hand."

Check out pictures from the Unveiling Ceremony for Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame, right here.

Britney DVD Being Released in March

Posted by LordBiO at 11:39 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Billboard reported that Jive plans to release a DVD in mid-March, with previously unreleased footage. Be sure to read the whole article for an interesing read.

If you can believe it, Britney Spears would like people to focus on her music, not her midriff.

But seeing is believing, and since the debut of her music video "I'm a Slave 4 U" two years ago, fans have seen Spears take an increasingly provocative journey into sexual exhibitionism.

Britney May Sing Live At The AMAs

Posted by LordBiO at 11:17 PM | Discuss

TV MTV reported that Britney may sing live at the American Music Awards.

Britney Spears is often accused of lip-synching, but for her performance at this weekend's American Music Awards, she's planning to prove everyone wrong — by singing live. "I think the reason why people say that [I lip-synch] is because I am dancing a lot," the singer said in a phone press conference on Wednesday. "Janet [Jackson], when she does her shows, she dances a lot. And you know, there's parts where the background vocals and the chorus has definitely come up, but that doesn't mean I'm not singing." The American Music Awards air live from Los Angeles on ABC Sunday at 8 p.m. ET.

Interview With Primetime's Diane Sawyer

Posted by LordBiO at 4:19 AM | Discuss

TV Who wouldn't want to be Britney Spears? At 21 years old, she has three multi-platinum albums and her own movie under her belt, and legions of adoring fans around the world.

But in an exclusive interview with ABCNEWS Primetime's Diane Sawyer, Spears admitted that even she has things about herself that she's not enthusiastic about.

"Do I like my voice? Um — I think my voice is — oh, I'll be completely honest: I think my voice is OK," she said.

She went on to mention a couple of her rivals, Christina Aguilera and Whitney Houston. "I would love to have a voice like Christina. I would love to have a voice like Whitney Houston," she said.

After a trying year for Spears — with a much-publicized breakup from former 'N Sync member Justin Timberlake — she is releasing a new CD, In the Zone, this week.

With a more mature sound than the young singer's previous work, the new album is considered a make-or-break step. It could possibly provide a bridge from her teenybopper fan base to an older audience. "I think I'm a little nervous about my album coming out," she said.

Go read the whole article on ABCNEWS.com especially if you missed the interview tonight with Diane Sawyer.

Britney Says Yes To Masturbation

Posted by fan2001 at 5:45 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous She was once famous for being a self proclaimed virgin who said she would not have sex before marriage. But a few years later, and with a new album to release, it seems Britney Spears is now happy to talk about sex in the most graphic terms.

In an interview with People magazine, Britney Spears talks at length about masturbation. "I think if you say you don't do it, you're lying," Spears said. "It's a positive thing to indulge in. I don't do it all the time. It's life. Guys can talk about it. Why can't girls? I think it's positive for girls not to depend on guys. Being alone, and I'm one to say, you really start to figure out what makes you happy. And then you're able to give more to other people. When you turn yourself on, that really is what turns the guy on."

Spears was speaking in America's People magazine, out later this week. Asked who she thought was the sexiest man alive, she said: "Brad Pitt or George Clooney. Definitely."

ABC Family Original Movie - A Mother's Gift

Posted by LordBiO at 5:02 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Hollywood Reporter reported that Britney Spears is close to signing on as executive producer for an ABC Family cable TV movie based on a book she wrote with her mother.

The untitled project is scheduled to go into production in Toronto early next year in anticipation of an April airdate. No casting has been decided, nor has it been determined yet whether the pop star will appear in the film.

It is based on the 2001 semiautobiographical novel "A Mother's Gift," co-written with Lynne Spears, who is also on board as an executive producer.

"Gift" tells the story of an aspiring teenage singer who travels from her home in the South with her mother to an East Coast conservatory.

The Spears film is one of three new original films being produced by ABC Family.

Britney Pulls Out Of Today Show Performance

Posted by fan2001 at 4:12 PM | Discuss

TV Angered about "Britney Unzipped," last Sunday's cheesy profile on Dateline NBC, platinum pop tartlet Britney Spears has signaled she will be a no-show at her long-scheduled Nov. 21 Today concert appearance to push her new CD, In the Zone.

"It's a shame Britney had to cancel her concert," says a Today Show spokeswoman. "Britney is always welcome on Today."

Don't hold your breath waiting for that.

NBC must have known it wasn't doing anything to endear itself to Spears when it aired the Dateline report without the singer's cooperation. A prime focus of the report was how, in a calculated fashion, she was sleazing up her image to sell CDs.

With the endless build-up of promos promising a pop diva gone wild, Dateline also managed to take some thunder away from ABC and Diane Sawyer's much-hyped exclusive interview with Spears on the Nov. 13 PrimeTime: Thursday.

"Britney's people had everything orchestrated as to who gets what," says a music source. "They don't like it when someplace like [NBC News and Dateline] doesn't play by the rules. And then you have to pay for it."

NY Post Reviews "In The Zone"

Posted by fan2001 at 8:17 AM | Discuss

Music Get out a bucket of cold water and lock up the children 'cause Britney Spears (news) is in heat.

If her innocence is somehow still in question after her lesbian lip-lock with Madonna (news - web sites) on MTV, then her oversexed new album - "In the Zone" - solves that one for good.

Men who liked to ogle her - but have never listened to her once-sugary sound - now have a reason to tune in: She finally sounds as hot as she looks.

No more extolling the virtues of virginity. In "Showdown," she coos, "I'm not a tease, would you undo my zipper please?"

"I was shaking my ass in the street" opens the tune "Early Mornin' " - a sexy, growling one-night-stand regret song that should have been titled "Early Moaning."

With silky lounge grooves, hip-hop and reggae hints, and Spears' breathy vocals, it's obvious the singer is cutting her underage fans loose and trading up for a more mature and clearly more male audience.

Madonna makes a cameo on the now-familiar single, "Me Against the Music," which is good, but doesn't hint at the depth of a collection that reaches way beyond simple dance beats.

Britney accomplishes everything she wants to here. She finally separates herself from her candy-coated past and she does it with an eclectic and sophisticated pop sound.

Whether she or her producers deserve the credit, who knows - and who cares? She is a force in contemporary entertainment and "In the Zone" reflects that.

Musically, the most interesting piece - and the one where she sounds the most like Madonna - is "Touch of My Hand," a dance ballad that references Asian electropop.

On the down side, Spears' vocals seem to be declining over time. On "The Hook Up," a mutant reggae/electronica tune, her voice is so processed it is unrecognizable as her.

But as we know, selling albums has less and less to do with singing - and everything to do with image.

On past albums she's tried to be the girl next door. Now she's the one you only wish had moved next door.

"In the Zone" hits stores a week from today.

Colin Farrell Shocks Britney With Rude Gifts

Posted by A51JM at 1:06 AM | Discuss

Rumors Egh..just want to let everyone know that this is a rumor being reported.

TeenHollywood.com reports: Phone Booth hunk Colin Farrell has offended former date Britney Spears by sending her a lewd t-shirt - and now the pair are no longer on speaking terms.

The Irish actor, who once famously smooched with the Me Against the Music singer, sent Britney a top bearing the slogan, "I slept with Colin Farrell and all I got was this lousy t-shirt".

Colin also mailed her a bumper sticker reading, "Honk if you've slept with Colin Farrell".

The gifts are in response to Britney denying she's enjoyed a raunchy encounter with the handsome star earlier this year.

A pal of Colin's says, "He thought it would be a great gag to send her the gifts. I think she thought Colin was being a gentleman and had sent her some perfume.

"She got quite a shock when she opened his package. She didn't see the funny side and screamed at him on the phone. He was laughing so much she hung up - they haven't spoken since."

Diet Pill Company Suing Britney

Posted by A51JM at 1:01 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous From: MTV

A maker of diet pills has filed a federal lawsuit against Britney Spears, seeking relief from accusations made by the pop star that they improperly used her image in the promotion of Zantrex-3, after she was reportedly seen spilling a bottle from her bag while at Heathrow Airport a few months ago. A spokesperson for the singer called the ad unauthorized, but Zoller Laboratories continues to promote the link between the singer and its product on a Web site for the pill, at www.zantrex.net/britney.htm. Zoller, along with DG Enterprises and Basic Research LLC, said in their lawsuit filed in Utah's Federal Court on Friday that they have never used Spears' image in advertising. ... Meanwhile, Britney wants to meet you — well, if you buy her new album, that is. She's staging a signing on November 18 at New York's Virgin Megastore in Times Square, where the first 500 people who purchase In the Zone that day at that store (beginning at 9 a.m.) will have the pleasure of the singer personalizing it for them.

Fred Durst Insists Britney Real Relationship

Posted by A51JM at 12:59 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Fred Durst just can't stop talking about Britney Spears - the Limp Bizkit frontman has opened up to GQ magazine about his supposed romance with the pop star.

Spears denied the affair on MTV earlier this year, prompting Durst to lash out at her, but now the rocker has mellowed - and he admits he thought they had something special.

He says, "I f***ing fell for this girl. I really thought, 'Wow, I am going to be with someone who's in the same business, someone who's going to understand my life.' I really felt that this was going to be something major.

"I was open to it because it was so bizarre. I was like, 'What the f*** am I doing at Britney Spears' house?' The first time we kissed, I was going, 'This is too weird.'

"We started hanging out every day. We went out a couple of times to really crowded places - paparazzi places - and I was just going, 'Wow, everyone is going to know.'"

Britney Named Woman of the Year

Posted by A51JM at 12:58 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Last year, Britney Spears lamented, "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman," in her song of the same name.

This year, Glamour magazine settles any developmental confusion by naming the 21-year-old pop star one of their Women of the Year honorees for her arts camp for underprivileged youth.

The magazine's 14th annual Women of the Year awards will be held tonight (Nov. 10) to recognize extraordinary and inspirational women from a variety of fields, including entertainment, business, sports, music, science/medicine, education and politics.

Sharing honors with Spears is Jessica Lange, the two-time Academy Award-winning actress hose work as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador in the Democratic Republic of Congo made her an outspoken witness to the violence against women and children in the war-ravaged country.

Britney Dumped By Her Boyfriend?

Posted by Kaos at 11:28 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Sky News reports Pop queen Britney Spears pulled out of last week's MTV awards ceremony because she had just been dumped by her boyfriend, according to reports.

Britney was said to have cancelled her appearance at the Edinburgh bash and flown home to her mum in Louisiana.

Her publicists had blamed her non-appearance on a bout of the flu.

Dancer Columbus Short devastated the young star when he walked out on her and went back to his pregnant wife, Brandi, the News of the World reports.

The split comes after Britney was seen snogging Columbus in California and then threw a lavish birthday bash in New York.

She was even said to have treated him to a secret love-in in Italy.

A source told the paper: "It wasn't just MTV she walked out on but all promotion for her new album."

"She was due to play G.A.Y at the Astoria in London last night with Madonna, who sang on her new single.

"But that's been a disaster in itself as it's already dropped out of the US Top 30 in just three weeks."

All Eyes on Britney Spears on MTV Today!

Posted by LordBiO at 5:18 PM | Discuss

TV Britney Spears spills it all to MTV News' SuChin Pak on "All Eyes on Britney Spears," airing Saturday, November 8 at noon and 7:30 p.m. EST.

Britney Spears sits with her friends at a club VIP table when she spots her mark. He's attractive, maybe a model, dancing with no one in particular. The ladies buzzing around him use an array of assets, from gyrating dance moves to their sweat-moistened cleavages, to try to seize him for themselves.

Eventually stopping for a cocktail, he's not the only one who needs to cool off. Spears sees an opportunity and slyly saunters over, giving him a look that most men have only seen deep in REM sleep. As he turns away from the bar they nearly collide. Startled at first, he recognizes her.

But the guy wasn't anticipating this.

"Hi, ughhh ... Don't I know you from, ugh ... That's a really nice, ummm, shirt ... Got the time?" Britney stammers.

That imaginary scenario isn't likely to happen because Spears won't let it. She's going to work on her ice-breakers before she ever attempts anything like that.

"I need to learn some moves," she conceded recently. "I don't have a cool bone in my body."

Britney Spears has trouble meeting guys.

"I don't really have all the pick-up lines," she said. "You know how some guys just know, and have that [rap]? I don't have that ... It's very weird for me to go up to somebody at a club and be like, 'Oh, hi. What's up?' "

But when the pop princess does make a first move, she's prone to letting her body do the talking, as she explained in "I'm a Slave 4 U," the first single from 2001's Britney. When the mood strikes, she says she's liable to simply dance up on him and let things go from there.

This was a really funnt and interesting read, so make sure you go read the whole interview on MTV.com and be sure to watch the interview on All Eyes on Britney Spears on MTV today at 7:30PM!

Simon Cowell Appreciates Britney' Honesty

Posted by LordBiO at 2:42 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous The Associated Press reported that Simon Cowell says he appreciates Britney Spears' honesty, even if the 21-year-old pop star did take a dig at him.

Spears recently had some advice for wannabe stars participating in the TV talent show ``Pop Idol,'' the British counterpart of ``American Idol.'' Both feature Cowell's often withering assessments of the hopefuls' singing abilities.

``I would take his advice and whatever he said and tell him to shove it,'' Spears told Britain's ITV television in an interview broadcast Monday.

In response, Cowell told the TV show ``Extra'' in an interview that aired Thursday: ``I've got to be honest with you, the fact that she said that, I sort of like her more. It makes her more interesting. Britney is now a woman, not a girl. I like that.''

Excerpts of the interview were released in advance.

Britney’s Comeback ‘In the Zone’

Posted by A51JM at 3:55 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Two years ago, she sang plaintively that she was “Not a girl, not yet a woman.” For the past couple of months, former pop princess Britney Spears, 21, has been out to prove that girlhood is but a distant memory, posing topless and bottomless for magazine covers and smooching publicly with Madonna to promote her recording comeback.

“IN THE ZONE,” Britney’s first album for two years, hits record stores Nov. 18 following her decision in August 2002 to take a break from the business that had turned a wholesome teen from the American South into a worldwide pop phenomenon with album sales of 60 million.

Two years is a lifetime in the fickle pop music industry as Madonna, the mother of reinvention, knows all too well. So once the TV specials, the eye-popping photos and the media furor over her “not that innocent” new image blows over, Britney’s success as a recording artist will depend on the music.

“It really comes down to how good the songs are. Any kind of image is not going to sustain you for that long unless there is really some substance there,” said Jeff Pollack, a leading radio and music consultant.

“What really matters in a music career is getting played on the radio, on MTV, getting legitimate acceptance as an artist. Britney faces a transition now. In terms of phase one of her reinvention, it’s working,” Pollack said.

Pollack expects the new CD to have a strong first week and to make it easily into the Top 10. But “if the record in not in the groove then program directors at music channels are not going to keep playing it.”

The first single from the album, “Me Against the Music,” boosted by a steamy video featuring Britney’s new pal Madonna, has been playing fairly well on radio.

Three weeks after its release, “Me Against the Music” was in 14th place in Radio and Records trade publication’s tally of national U.S. airplay. The as-yet-unreleased “In the Zone” album was 42nd on the Amazon.com top sellers list, behind new CDs from Sarah McLachlan, Sting, Sheryl Crow and The Beatles ”Let It Be...Naked” which is also released Nov. 18.

UP AGAINST BOOTYLICIOUS

Britney’s stripped down new look, together with the revelation that she is no longer the virgin she once professed to remain, has moved her away from her former teen fan base, which is currently embracing Disney TV star Hilary Duff, 16, and Canadian punk singer Avril Lavigne, 19.

Her overtures to the young adult audience put Britney up against the likes of Beyonce Knowles, who is enjoying a runaway success both as a solo artist and actress, and megadiva Jennifer Lopez, whose love life and revealing outfits have ousted Britney as the world’s most talked about celebrity.

Music has also moved on, with rap and R&B singles dominating mainstream U.S. radio playlists where five years ago bubblegum pop from pigtailed girls (and boys) next door reigned supreme.

Britney’s comeback promotion has been breathtaking. Her sensational open-mouthed public kiss with Madonna on the MTV Music Video awards show in September made world headlines.

At least three American TV specials will mark her comeback. She posed topless on the cover of Rolling Stone and wore nothing but a white sweater and high heels for Esquire.

Esquire reporter Chuck Klosterman said Britney, while not commenting on whether she saw herself as a sexual icon, “acted as if this had never crossed her mind. Either Britney Spears is the least self-aware person I’ve ever met, or she’s way, way savvier than any of us realize.”

Whether or not “In the Zone” is an artistic success, personal branding consultant Peter Montoya said Britney’s cultural status makes her a “marketing powerhouse.”

“She has been so well marketed that the question of her talent is really a non-issue. Like Madonna 20 years ago, Britney is having a major impact on American culture, influencing the way teen-age girls dress, act and think — especially with regards to sex,” Montoya said.

Spears Family Dishes On Britney

Posted by A51JM at 3:51 PM | Discuss

TV She's the small-town girl that turned into a mega-selling superstar with a legion of young fans.

Soon, viewers of the weekend showing of VH1's "Behind the Music" will get a candid look at Britney Spears.

The world-famous pop singer's family — mother Lynne Spears, older brother Bryan Spears and younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears — visited The Early Show to give some insight on their famous family member.

Brother Bryan notes that, early on, he knew his sister was going to be successful at whatever she did. He tells co-anchor Julie Chen, “She had a really strong drive, and she's very passionate about what she did, so I knew that transferred into anything she did; she was going to be successful.”

With her success also has come bad press and, some may say, unfair criticism. But the family says it comes with being famous. Lynne Spears says, “I just think people should look at her as an individual, a young girl growing up. And really, you have to get past the media, what the media says. You could never survive it, really, if you paid attention to everything they say.”

For Jamie Lynn, Britney is like any other sister. “She picks on me, of course, just because that's what sisters do, but she's a really, really good big sister,” Jamie Lynn says.

"Behind The Music: Britney Spears" airs on VH1 on Nov. 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Britney Spears is scheduled to release her new album, "In The Zone," on Nov. 18. She has three multi-platinum albums and starred in her own movie, "Crossroads."

"In The Zone" Has Been Leaked

Posted by LordBiO at 11:46 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Last night, across basically every Britney Spears message board, the new album "In The Zone" leaked and not by MTV but by a fan. The complete album is now available to download from the internet.

Rumors are going around saying someone supposedly got the links to the streams from MTV's Leak and converted them into MP3s.

We are asking fans to hold out and listen to the preview clips, and buy the album when it comes out. If we, the true fans don't go out and support Britney, it could have a huge impact on her sales. I don't want to preach but we need to do everything we can to stop piracy of her music.

But if you do download it, do not upload it, do not post links on message boards especially not ours because we will delete the posts. And go buy the album.

Thanks.

Britney Spears: Unzipped on Dateline

Posted by LordBiO at 2:00 AM | Discuss

TV Dateline NBC follows Britney spears from her days as a Mouseketeer to New York City’s late night scene, where our cameras captured footage of the pop princess giving what may be her wildest, rawest, sweatiest performance yet. How far will Britney go to keep herself in the spotlight?Correspondent Hoda Kotb goes in search of the answer.

She exploded on to the music scene as a teenager with her famous line, "I'm not that innocent." But she's an adult now, and making plenty of headlines. As each video becomes sexier, each magazine cover more risqué, "Dateline" asks the question, is this the real Britney Spears or a clever marketing plan aimed at shaking off her former Mouseketeer image?

Correspondent Hoda Kotb traveled from Louisiana where Spears got her start to the late night scene of New York City where Dateline's cameras captured her as recently as two weeks ago, giving what might be her wildest performance yet. And lately the pop star has canceled a number of appearances - just weeks before debuting a new album.

While some say Spears is not aware of the controversy that surrounds almost everything she does, others claim it's all an act, that even back on her "Star Search"days Spears knew how to get attention. "She definitely knew how to maneuver guys to think a certain way," says former Mousekeeter T.J. Fantini.

Be sure to watch NBC 7PM EST on Sunday, November 9th.

Britney Pulls Out of Club Appearance

Posted by A51JM at 4:26 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous UK.GAY.COM report: Britney Spears has pulled out of her appearance at London's G-A-Y club, as well as the rest of her European promotions, citing "nervous exhaustion".

A spokesman for the star said the amount of promotion scheduled for the star, who releases her comeback album later this month, has affected her health, and she is heading home to recuperate.

Spears was set to be one of the biggest celebrities to appear at the club, which is held at London's Astoria. When it was first announced, rumours circulated that UK bands such as Atomic Kitten were dropped from the bill to accommodate her.

Organisers say that ticket holders will get a full refund or discounted entry to the club that night, where there will hold a special Britney party.

"As there has been so much excitement about Britney appearing at G-A-Y and as there will still be a lot of people turning up expecting her to appear, we have decided to throw a Britney Party with a Britney mega mix and huge giveaway," they said in a release today.

Spears' new single Me Against the Music is taken from the forthcoming In The Zone album, which is released November 17.

Britney Is Back and in the Zone

Posted by A51JM at 4:18 PM | Discuss

TV PRNewswire reports: From a small-town girl to a mega-selling superstar, Britney Spears gets candid with VH1 about the rigors of what it's like being young, famous and in the spotlight 24/7 in 'Behind The Music: Britney Spears'on November 9 at 9:00 PM.*

For the first time ever, she discusses the period in her life that morphed into a media frenzy with the success of her first album and how she's moving forward with a new image, outlook and fourth album, In The Zone.

Here's what Britney has to say:

On the 'kiss':

'The kiss was not my idea, it was Madonna's idea. She's the groom and I'm the bride, so, you know, she probably felt we should kiss or whatever. But she was like, why don't we do it here, why don't we do the kiss here? And, I was like, okay.'

On Madonna:

'I always really looked up to Madonna, just her sense of her performing and her individuality. And, I don't know, there's just something about her that really triggered me. Something inside that woke me up or something. It made me feel alive to watch her.'

On Justin:

'It frankly really is none of anybody's business. Because certain things are sacred, and should be completely, kept totally private. And I've learned my lesson completely.'

On ambition:

'I was always a little different. I don't know where my drive comes from, I've always been very driven and, I was very focused and always knew exactly what I wanted.

I think sometimes you know when you're supposed to do certain things. And I just remembered I, when I would get on stage, like that was just, that's when I felt alive. And I missed that. And I was like, I'm ready to perform. And sing.'

On becoming a woman:

'I was singing in a song, not a girl, not yet a woman, when in, in reality I was becoming what I was at that point, right there in front of the world.'

The 90-minute special episode also includes interviews with her mother, Laura Lynne, sister Jaime Lynn and brother, Bryan as well as her manager, Larry Rudolph.

Britney Pulls Out of MTV Europe Music Awards

Posted by LordBiO at 11:18 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Reuters reported that Britney has pulled out of this week's MTV Europe Music Awards due to illness, organizers said Tuesday.

"Unfortunately, she is not well. We are disappointed she won't be attending, but we wish her well for a speedy recovery," an MTV spokeswoman said.

Spears' kiss with Madonna at the MTV Video Music Awards two months ago as the 21-year-old's former boyfriend Justin Timberlake looked on proved to be a real showstopper and helped win her global coverage.

"It was a surreal moment. I'll never forget it for the rest of my life," Spears said after the event in New York.

Spears, who has been promoting her new album in Europe, was due to present an award at the 10th annual MTV event in Edinburgh Thursday.

A spokesman for Jive, Spears' record label, said she had returned to her family home in Louisiana after catching a weekend flight from Paris. He said Spears had not got over a severe throat infection.

"She has not been getting any better. She still has flu. In a couple of days she will be fine. The timing is just off," he said.

POP SENSATION BRITNEY SPEARS GETS "IN THE ZONE" IN AN ORIGINAL PRIMETIME SPECIAL SET TO AIR ON ABC, MONDAY, NOVEMBER 17

Twenty-one-year-old singing sensation Britney Spears is set to star in an original network primetime special on MONDAY, NOVEMBER 17 2003 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET). "Britney Spears: In the Zone" will feature exclusive performance footage interwoven with a behind-the-scenes look at this young superstar's hectic life.

The performance footage, shot in New York City's Gotham Hall, will include songs from the Jive Recording artist's November 18 release, "In the Zone," as well as some of her biggest hits. Filmed in the round, Britney will be accompanied by her team of dancers, a full band, and even a string quartet for one number. The show features a collection of dramatic stage settings that give the concert a true storyline. Emotions and energy run high, as the show reflects its influences - ranging from "Alice in Wonderland" to "Cabaret" - and presents Britney in a variety of incarnations that are sexy, Gothic, romantic and truly eye-popping.

So what does it take to put a show like this together? To record an album that follows up a multi-platinum smash? To have to do interviews and photo sessions? To literally have dozens of people working for you and millions of fans watching your every move? Starting in August 2003, the producers of "Britney Spears: In The Zone" began shadowing the young luminary with their cameras, and the results will show, as never before, how with a tremendous amount of talent and hard work -- followed by more hard work! -- Britney has managed to become, and remain, one of America's biggest superstars.

Preview 5 New Tracks From In The Zone

Posted by fan2001 at 4:58 PM | Discuss

Music Britney's official site is allowing fans to preview 5 tracks from Britney's upcoming album, In The Zone.

1. Me Against The Music
2. I Got That Boom Boom
3. Breathe On Me
4. Outrageous
5. Toxic

All 5 songs are really hot and Britney is stepping out with this album. Each one is an experiment in different genres.

Me Against The Music - We're already familiar with this hot track with Madonna.

I Got That Boom Boom -A mix of jungle, hip-hop, and a little Louisana twang. Britney starts the song off with "A shout out to all my southern boys". A confident, sexy dance number.

Breathe On Me - A very sensual electro song reminiscent of Kylie Minogue's work. Very breathy, vibey, and did I mention sensual? Ms. Spears moans "Oooh this has gone way beyond just physical". But hey, the song is only about breathing. ;)

Outrageous - A sexy R&B number produced by none other than R.Kelly. The song brags about the excesses of life including Britney's shopping spree, her sex drive, and her world tour. A very fun song.

Toxic - An out of this world nu rock/electro 60's song. It is reminiscent of a cartoon for some reason. Very different.

New York Times Interviews Britney

Posted by LordBiO at 12:15 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Neil Strauss from the New York Times, got a chance to interview Britney before the ABC taping last week.

Here is part of the article:

With every new CD that Ms. Spears releases, fans and
detractors alike inevitably say that she is growing up. At
the same time, sales of her albums, though always in the
millions, have steadily decreased. She went from singing
about schoolgirl crushes, heartbreak and soda pop on her
first CD in 1999 to playing the coquette, flirting just out
of reach, on her follow-up, "Oops! I Did It Again." On her
third album, "Britney," she declared her emancipation,
proclaiming in song after song that she was no longer a
little girl, but not yet a woman.

On her forthcoming CD, "In the Zone" (due on Nov. 18 on
Jive), she continues her very public sexual evolution,
completing her transformation from submissive (be it "Born
to Make You Happy" or "I'm a Slave 4 U") to predator. Here,
she is the siren of the party scene, hooking up with random
men, declaring that she doesn't want to be a tease and
offering "whatcha need all night long."

Meanwhile, the tabloids have contributed to the coming-out
party with endless images and stories of Ms. Spears
smoking, drinking or partying. And, in promoting her new
CD, she upped the ante, posing bottomless and topless for
magazine covers.

But it's a remarkably narrow view of adulthood that defines
maturity only in terms of sex, alcohol and partying. For
one thing, those discoveries usually take place in the
early teenage years. But more to the point, the foundations
of adulthood run much deeper, having to do with coping with
increased responsibility while developing intellectually
and emotionally. While Ms. Spears has certainly been a
willing martyr to our culture's fixation with licentious
young girls, in person she seems to know that growing up
means more than doing the things that the tabloids seem
fascinated by.

"I think you never grow up," Ms. Spears said as she
fidgeted on a couch in a Trump Plaza hotel room several
hours before the ABC taping. "If anyone says that they're
completely full grown, what's the fun in that? Every day
you want to learn something new. Every day you want to
challenge yourself and get better. I'm not grown up and I'm
not a little girl. I just am."

The interview with Ms. Spears was a mixed one, perhaps
tellingly so. Half her responses seemed innocuous,
programmed; the other half suggested someone trying to
emerge from a sheltered life. In the most interesting
moments, Ms. Spears discussed her own writing, spirituality
and soul-searching - although never on the record. At other
times, however, she did not recognize the names of
producers she had worked with for her new CD.

Breathe On Me Lyrics

Posted by Kaos at 5:30 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Our good friends at GoBritney posted up lyrics to Breathe On Me.

(Whispers)
It's so hot in here.

Ohh, it's so hot, and I need some air.
Oh boy, don't stop 'cuz I'm halfway there.
It's not complicated, it's just syncopated,
We can read each other's minds.
One love united,
Two bodies synchronizing,
Don't even need to touch me,
Baby, just...

(Chorus)
Breathe on me.
Baby just, breathe on me.
We don't need to touch, just
breathe...

Ohh, this is way beyond the physical (it's a way beyond the physical).
Tonight, my senses don't make sense at all.
Our imagination, takin' us to places,
We have never been before.
Take me in, let it out,
Don't even need to touch me,
Baby, just...

(Chorus x2)
Breathe on me.
Baby just, breathe on me.
We don't need to touch, just
Breathe (breathe) on (on) me (me).
Baby just, breathe (breathe) on (on) me (me).
We don't need to touch, just
breathe...

(Whispers)
Monogamy is the way to go,
Just put your lips together... and blow.

(Humming)

Breathe on me,
Baby just, breathe on me.
We don't need to touch, just
Breathe (breathe) on (on) me (me).
Baby just, breathe (breathe) on (on) me (me).
We dont need to touch us.
