Britney Performing In Portugal

Britney will be performing at the music festival Rock In Rio in Portugal, according to the official Portuguese website for the event. The show will take place on June 5th of this year in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. Britne participated in the 2001 edition of the festival in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, performing and promoting hits from her 2000 album "Oops!...I Did It Again". TV Museum Showcases History of Pop Music

Reuters and Billboard report that Britney will be one of the artists who will be featured in the "American Pop" series in the History of Pop Music, presented by the Museum of Television and Radio in New York and Los Angeles. The series which will begin on Feburary 6 will be two months long and will focus on pop music's history on television, including Britney's role. The theme that will showcase Britney will be the evolution of teen-idol pop. Other artists to be showcased will be Al Green, James Brown, Elvis Presley, and the Monkees.

Britney Fights Back

This is an excerpt from Britney's interview from Blender Magazine. "I can't believe Christina said that about me," Britney Spears mutters. In the December issue of Blender, Christina Aguilera took time out to talk about Spears. It began with Aguilera complaining about how Spears had received all the attention from The Kiss - both former Mickey Mouse Clubbers had locked lips with Madonna during the MTV Video Music Awards, yet the column inches were all about Spears. Aguilera was especially put out that MTV's cameras cut from her smooch to Justin Timberlake's annoyed reaction. "I didn't even notice that," Spears said when Aguilera's comments are read back to her. She puts on her Shirley Temple face and says coyly, "I'm sorry." But then Blender reads Aguilera's next comment: When she encountered Spears recently, she said, she seemed "like a lost little girl who needs guidance." Spears is shocked by the quotation; her eyes widen. "That's funny," she fumes, "because I haven't seen her in two years, and then she comes up to me in a club in front of all these people and tries to put her tongue down my throat! I'm like, 'How are you?'..." Spears, clearly furious at Aguilera's put-down, continues: "I say, 'It's good to see you,' and she goes, 'Well, you're not being real with me.' I was like, 'Well Christina. What's your definition of being real? Going up to girls and kissing them after you haven't seen them for two years?' A lost girl? I think it's probably the other way around." You can see that half of Spears knows she shouldn't be saying this, but Aguilera's offhanded comments have clearly hurt. She stops and apologizes, then, unable to resist, kicks off one last time: "When somebody's been rude to you so many times, it's like, 'You know what, Christina? I'm really not about the fake bullshit anymore. You're scary and I feel really dark when I get around you, so I need to be over here now.'" Thanks ForeverBritney

Britney Reigns Again on Internet

Hollywood Reporter reported that just as Internet users were beginning to lose interest in longtime Web wonder Britney Spears, a few sexually provocative magazine covers and a famous smooch with Madonna propelled the pop princess back into favor. Yes, it's that time again -- when Lycos, America Online and Yahoo! each weigh in with their end-of-year statistics and, as was the case last year and the year before, Spears managed to claw her way near the top of the lists of the most searched-for celebrities. Until Spears started promoting her new album with a flurry of attention-getting stunts, highlighted by her Sapphic excursion at the MTV Video Music Awards in September, the singer actually fell off Lycos' top-10 list of search terms for several weeks, spokesman Aaron Schatz said. Ultimately, though, she finished in the No. 2 spot overall at Lycos for the year, right behind song-swapping service Kazaa. At Yahoo! she finished sixth on the overall list of searched-for terms, with one celebrity ahead of her: Eminem.

Britney was named Best Blonde by Wella. Wella conducted unscientific surveys after the MTV Video Music Awards, the Emmys and the American Music Awards to determine the year's best and worst in hair. "The makeover crew on reality show Queer Eye For The Straight Guy were singled out for having top tresses in a US celebrity hair survey....The only pop star to rate a "best" rating was Britney Spears, who was named best blond bombshell along with Pamela Anderson. From Britney's fan club: Some fans have expressed concern over the seating arrangement for Britney’s upcoming shows. Fans should know that Britney’s live setup includes a catwalk that extends from the middle of the stage into the audience. Many fans who are several rows back will actually find themselves in the first row or two for the catwalk and those off the floor will have a great view of the catwalk. The precise length and location of the catwalk will vary from venue to venue, but this information will hopefully give fans some perspective on the exact quality and location of their seats.

The Osbournes are to host a Val Doonican-style family variety TV show on Christmas Eve. Britney Spears and Mike Myers will be among the guests on the MTV programme which goes out at 10pm. The Osbourne Family Christmas was recorded before Ozzy's recent quad bike accident. He is recovering in Wexham Park Hospital in Slough from injuries he suffered during the crash at his Buckinghamshire mansion. The 60 minute special will be hosted by the Osbournes from their home in Beverly Hills. It will include a duet of Winter Wonderland by Ozzy and Jessica Simpson and Kelly performing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. "The Osbournes are surprisingly traditionalist when it comes to the holidays - they love all the old holiday TV showcases and wanted to create a new television tradition with their special," said MTV spokeswoman Lois Cu2ren. As MTV reported, the music video will be filmed by Tim Burton. "The video will be totally different from any video I've done. It has this freak show/circus vibe that I think fits with the song. Britney Spears sits with her friends at a club VIP table when she spots her mark. He's attractive, maybe a model, dancing with no one in particular. The ladies buzzing around him use an array of assets, from gyrating dance moves to their sweat-moistened cleavages, to try to seize him for themselves. Eventually stopping for a cocktail, he's not the only one who needs to cool off. Spears sees an opportunity and slyly saunters over, giving him a look that most men have only seen deep in REM sleep. As he turns away from the bar they nearly collide. Startled at first, he recognizes her. But the guy wasn't anticipating this. "Hi, ughhh ... Don't I know you from, ugh ... That's a really nice, ummm, shirt ... Got the time?" Britney stammers. That imaginary scenario isn't likely to happen because Spears won't let it. She's going to work on her ice-breakers before she ever attempts anything like that. "I need to learn some moves," she conceded recently. "I don't have a cool bone in my body." Britney Spears has trouble meeting guys. "I don't really have all the pick-up lines," she said. "You know how some guys just know, and have that [rap]? I don't have that ... It's very weird for me to go up to somebody at a club and be like, 'Oh, hi. What's up?' " But when the pop princess does make a first move, she's prone to letting her body do the talking, as she explained in "I'm a Slave 4 U," the first single from 2001's Britney. When the mood strikes, she says she's liable to simply dance up on him and let things go from there. And if he's a bad dancer? "I'll make him a good dancer," she said with a grin. "I'll just sit him there and just kind of ..." She insinuates a bit of the old bump-and-grind. "I've done that before," she admitted before letting loose a red-faced scream. "I'm embarrassed now, OK?" Is it hard to believe that Britney Spears, the confident sexpot who prances onstage in next to nothing, who poses half-clothed for photo shoots and moans suggestively all over her new album, In the Zone, is self-conscious and insecure? Not once you understand that the brazen blonde you hear on record and see onstage and in magazines isn't the same person who gets nervous around boys, worries about making a fool of herself and is modest when speaking of her accomplishments. More so than most entertainers whose public personas aren't necessarily in lockstep with their private lives, Britney Spears has two different — very different — selves. "It's like when you're a little girl, getting on top of your bed, pretending to be ['80s cartoon action heroine] She-Ra," she explained of superstar Britney. "It's that feeling of letting go and expressing yourself. It's like a fantasy, a dream. But then I get offstage and come into me, and I'm very like [sheepishly] 'hi' when I get around people I don't know. I think that surprises people sometimes because they think I'm going to be this star girl, but I'm completely the opposite." The side of Britney seen on In the Zone is hardly the bumbling mush mouth who doesn't take kindly to awkward situations. Rather, it's one of a self-assured young woman bursting with sexuality. If the throbbing beats and sultry rhythms aren't heated enough, Spears purrs and moans on nearly every track, while continuing in the tradition of using dance as a metaphor for sex. Her breathy conversation with Madonna on the single "Me Against the Music" might be the precursor to a lesson on the dance floor or perhaps someplace more intimate. Backed by the sensual trip-hop rhythm of "Breathe on Me," she gives her man signs of encouragement, so to speak, with the lines, "It's so hot and I need some air/ And boy don't stop 'cause I'm halfway there." Fan's Wait Hours In Line For Concert Tickets

After having camped outside the Verizon Wireless Arena box office in sub-zero wind chill conditions for up to 36 hours, some of pop star Britney Spear's biggest fans went home steaming about being sold less-than-ideal seats for Spears' "In the Zone Tour" appearance in Manchester in April. "To be waiting out here since 5 a.m. and not even get tickets on the floor?" said Mike Couture of Bedford, after first responding to the question about whether he, or his 13-year old daughter, Christine, or friend Kasha Boisvert, 13, were happy with their 200-section seats with a rhetorical, "would-you-be-happy?" look of disgust. "As you're waiting here in line, everyone's gobbling up the tickets online." In an official press release announcing that ticket sales for Britney's April 6 show would begin at 10 a.m. Dec. 13, Jason Perry of Verizon Wireless Arena stated that tickets, priced at $77.50, $61.50, and $41.50, would go on sale simultaneously at the Verizon box office; any Ticketmaster outlet, including Filene's; by calling the Ticketnaster phone number; or online at the Ticketmaster Web site. The resulting feeding frenzy of ticket-buying left dozens of Britney fans at the Verizon Center, including the Coutures, feeling quite bitterly left out in the cold. "They should give the people who actually stand in line a one-hour head start over everybody else," said Christine Couture, suggesting that in the future Ticketmaster or Verizon Arena management alter their policy to reward hard-core fans who brave the elements to physically wait in line to buy tickets. The closest that three (unidentified) ticket buyers who waited since Thursday night ouside the Verizon to be first in line could get was the third row. "The first rows are always reserved for band clubs anyway," said a downright giggly Sara Burke of Manchester. Burke, and friend Tina Sinclair, both 16, had waited since Friday midnight outside the Verizon to be able to buy eight tickets to seats located in the "seventh row, dead center" for Britney's show. In contrast to everyone else The Broadcaster spoke to, these girls sounded like they couldn't be happier. "Definitely worth it," said both girls, almost in unison. Reported by Business Wire. Britney was dethroned by 50 Cent as the most searched person on America Online, community of more than 50 million users. The top 2003 searches on AOL Search and top 2003 AOL Message Board topics conclude that 50 Cent took the #1 spot in 2003 from Britney who had a two year reign on the chart. Britney fell to a close #2.

In The Zone Is #8 In Album Sales In 4th Week

HITS Daily Double numbers are in and Britney's new album "In The Zone" sold 153,028 copies this week, staying at eigth place. It was a 7% increase from the previous week. Ruben Studdard claimed the #1 spot with "Soulful" from Alicia Keys selling 403,737 copies. Alicia Keys with "The Diary of Alica Keys" went down one spot to #2 which sold 332,613 copies.

TeenHollywood reports Britney Spears has laughed off reports she is pursuing a relationship with Cameron Diaz's ex-Jared Leto in a bid to get revenge on her former lover Justin Timberlake. The Me Against the Music beauty, 22, was snapped on a night out with hunky Leto, 31, just after her Cry Me a River ex was spotted kissing his new girlfriend Diaz in public last August - but Britney is horrified people think she and the Panic Room actor had ulterior motives. She says, "The Jared Leto thing. I'm not trying to date him. I'd never do that - I don't even think that way. She said: ''It's weird when I'm in 'artist mode', I can act smooth, do all the directing and do my thing. ''But when I'm around a guy I like, I get vulnerable and vague. have to learn to be more assertive.'' Lycos 50 released their list for the Web's Most Wanted 2003. Dragonball falls from two straight years at #1 to the #3 spot, and in between comes the resurgent Britney Spears at #2. Actually, Britney had fallen out of the weekly top ten by the middle of 2003, but in August she climbed back to the top following a succession of publicity stunts generating oodles of queries from curious Lycos users. HITS Daily Double numbers are in and Britney's new album "In The Zone" sold 143,394 copies this week, dropping to eigth place. It was a -43% drop from the previous week. Alica Keys claimed the #1 spot with "The Diary of Alica Keys" from Jay-Z, selling 625,035 copies. Toby Keith went back up to the #2 spot with his new compilation "Singles Collection," which sold 211,792 copies.

Britney @ Jingle Ball Concert: Fans Not Pleased

Don't mess with Texas. The assorted talents of four Lone Star State songbirds — Beyoncé, Kelly Clarkson, Jessica Simpson and Hilary Duff — stole the spotlight Friday from another Southern belle, KIIS-FM Jingle Ball headliner Britney Spears. Britney, however, did little to win over the capacity Staples Center crowd, who waited 40 minutes for her 20-minute show. (Thanks to the revolving stage, the set changes that preceded hers averaged just 10 minutes each.) The three-song set was about 15 minutes shorter than Beyoncé's and ended oddly with Britney walking off the stage toward the end of "Me Against the Music" while her dancers finished. The house lights then came on, leaving no hope of an encore and officially capping one of the first major radio station festivals of the busy holiday season. What seemed to anger the audience most — even the girl with the homemade "#1 Britney Fan" T-shirt left frowning — was Spears' lack of interaction with her fans. Not even a "Thank you" or "Good night." Fans have since flooded the Britney message boards with grievances. "I love Britney tons, but I lost so much respect for her tonight," one fan wrote on WorldofBritney.com. Others wondered if something went wrong, but a Jive Records spokesperson said Monday (December 8) the performance was always scheduled to be 20 minutes. Britney, in a strategically sliced black top and white fur cape, opened her set with "Toxic," emphasizing the steaminess of the song with come-hither looks and erotic choreography. Some of the effect was lost, though, by the obvious and sometimes off-sync lip-syncing and a stagehand running out to fix a prop. The tempo slowed slightly for "Breathe on Me," but the seductive vibe continued, with Spears slithering around her backup dancers, who grooved to the track. Britney's South Korea Visit

American pop princess Britney Spears paid her first visit to Korea on Monday, holding a press conference at Central City in Seoul. Spears, whose albums have sold 65 million copies worldwide since 1999, is on her promotional tour for her latest album, "In The Zone". Britney Spears, wearing a Korean traditional costume hanbok, posed for the picture. She said hanbok is so beautiful that she feels like a princess. Britney added that she was glad that she came to Korea. Spears said that she has been working on the new album for two years, and that the effort put into the recording should be evident to anyone who listens to the album. After french-kissing Madonna at the MTV Music Awards, rumors of a relationship flew, but Spears called the rumors groundless. The act was just orchestrated and was part of a performance, but Madonna is a very creative artist and I got plenty of inspiration from her during the production, she said. Asked about her changing image, the once-avowed virgin added that as she has matured, she has felt more natural expressing her sexuality. The first song on her new album, "Touch of my hand," was the major influence for the other songs. So the production came together one person at a time, she said. Now only 22 years old, Spears has a tight schedule, but says that too much spare time leaves her feeling restless. Her advice to the legion of young girls trying to follow in her dainty footsteps? Britney Spears on First Stop of Asian Tour

Pop star Britney Spears, who recently made headlines by kissing Madonna during a music award ceremony, says there was "no lesbian vibe going on" when she apparently tries to plant one on the "Material Girl" in her latest music video. The 21-year-old performer, once well known for saying sex should be saved for marriage, was in town Monday on the first stop in an Asian tour promoting her fourth album, "In the Zone." The album, aimed at crafting an edgier image, includes moaning and heavy breathing on tracks such as "Breathe on Me" and "Touch of My Hand," which is about female sexual self-gratification. The album's first single, "Me Against the Music," features Madonna, and the music video ends with Britney Spears apparently trying to kiss Madonna, who then vanishes before Spears can zero in. Talking to reporters Monday in the South Korean capital, she described Madonna as an "amazing lady," but coyly dismissed a question whether there was lesbian tension in the music video. "No, not at all. It was part of the video we were acting, there was no lesbian vibe going on," Spears said. Prior to her press conference, Britney briefly posed for the cameras wearing a pink Hanbok, a traditional loose-fitting Korean dress. "It was beautiful. I felt like a princess," she told reporters. It was the first time in South Korea for Spears, who next goes on to Japan. While in Seoul, Spears will give no concert, but she will perform several songs for reporters. On Tuesday, the 2nd, Britney spent they day auditioning girls hoping to play her in a new movie. Britney, along with her mum, Lynne Spears, went through a long list of wannabe "Britney's" for an upcoming movie based on Lynne's book, "A Mother's Gift" due out sometime in April. At last heard, Britney and Lynne cut the list down to 3 possible portrayers and were "extremely impressed with how well the girls performed." "We can totally tell they seemed so nervous when they first came in, so I'm gonna have to talk to them what a good job they did," said Britney. At a last guester of love and caring, the hopefull wannabe's joined to sing Happy Birthday to Britney.

But if you are a member of the official Britney Spears Fan Club, you get to purchase tickets early. The fan club pre-sale starts on December 10th (12/10) at 12 noon. Keep in mind the times are different depending on what time zone the arena is located in. Reuters through Billboard report: Britney will kick off March 2 in San Diego, and hit 25 cities in the U.S. and Canada through mid-April. Venues have not yet been confirmed. It will cover the U.S. West Coast and major markets in the Midwest and Southeast U.S. and Canada, wrapping April 10 or 12 in New York. Spears will begin a second leg of shows in outdoor amphitheaters in mid-July, bringing the total dates for the tour to 56.

Britney To Appear In New Carry On Film?

I wasn't going to post this but since it's a slow day in Britney news, here it is: Ananova reports: Britney Spears could play a role in the new Carry On film, according to reports. The Channel 4 website says she's keen on playing temptress Rhoda Freely, the daughter of I P Freely. Burt Reynold has been tipped to play I P Freely, the film's central character. Meanwhile, Sir Paul McCartney has been approached to record the film's opening song. Producer James Black said: "Paul is very keen and I've been told Britney wants to play the part. Her involvement is not based on whether or not Burt accepts."

No Grammy Nomination Explained

The 2004 Grammy nominations have been released and not suprisingly Britney was not nominated. Don't worry, the only reason why Britney was not nominated was because she missed the deadline for the 2004 nominations. The nominations selected by recordings released during the Eligibility Year October 1, 2002 through September 30, 2003. Since Britney did not release any recording, she could not be nominated for any award. Let us make 2005 Britney's year for a Grammy.

"In The Zone" Gains Sales of 251,000

Rolling Stone reports sales of Britney's new album "In The Zone" gained 251,000 more copies this week, dropping to third place however. According to SoundScan, Jay-Z claimed the #1 spot with "The Black Album" from Britney, selling 260,000 copies. No Doubt slipped to #2 with there new compilation "Singles Collection," which sold 253,000 copies, a mere 2,000 more copies than Britney.

Britney Spears has unveiled dates and cities for her North American tour in support of her new album, "In the Zone." The run is scheduled to kick off in San Diego on March 2, and the itinerary currently stretches into mid-April. Most shows are set in major U.S. markets, though the itinerary also includes a pair of Canadian dates and stops in a few markets where Spears has not previously performed, according to organizers. Venues have not yet been confirmed. "It's always special to be able to go on the road and give something back," Spears said in a statement. "I'm especially looking forward to bringing my tour to new markets and performing in front of fans that may not have had the opportunity to see any of my previous tours." Tickets for shows in "select markets" will hit the box office on Dec. 13, according to a press release; the release did not specify which shows will go on sale on that date, and advised fans to "check local listings for venues, on sales, dates and times." Members of Spears' official fan club will have access to ticket pre-sales that will begin next week, according to Spears' website. The pre-sale schedule will be announced "soon," according to the site. Britney Spears, who turned 22 on Tuesday, has been teasing fans with her one-off club shows and TV performances, but now she's finally going to go all the way with a full-on tour for In the Zone. The pop princess announced Tuesday (December 2) that she'll kick off her tour March 2 in San Diego, hitting 25 North American cities and wrapping things up April 12 in New York. "It's always special to be able to go on the road and give something back," Spears said in a statement. "I'm especially looking forward to bringing my tour to new markets and performing in front of fans that may not have had the opportunity to see any of my previous tours." Spears last toured in 2002 on the "Dream Within a Dream" world tour that ended in July of that year with an abruptly shortened final stop in Mexico City (see "Britney Says Lightning Storm Forced Her To End Mexico Show"). Her North American legs of the highly theatrical trek grossed $43.7 million. Tickets for the new tour go on sale December 13. A portion of all ticket sales will benefit the Britney Spears Foundation.
