Britney & Justin
According to Yahoo! News and USA Today, Love is cruel, but it can be a cakewalk compared to the struggle to maintain the loyalty of fickle-hearted music fans. So if the romance between Britney Spears and 'N Sync's Justin Timberlake has, as reports indicate, cooled off, might their careers suffer accordingly? And which teen idol enjoys better long-term prospects at this point, single or otherwise?

Rob Roberts, program director of WHYI-FM, a Top 40 radio station in Miami, feels Spears and Timberlake's personal ties have had a positive symbiotic effect. ''Their star power has been amplified by each other,'' Roberts says. ''It's a publicist's dream relationship.''

But for Roberts, Timberlake, who has evolved into the focal point and driving creative force of 'N Sync, could be the better situated of the two former Mouseketeers. ''Justin has been a little more groundbreaking, while Britney has been a little more predictable,'' says Roberts.

Adds Chuck Taylor, senior editor at Billboard, '' 'N Sync turned towards R&B at just the right time. Just as pop music was falling on its face, 'N Sync started linking itself with cool hip-hop artists.'' Airplay Monitor editor Sean Ross concurs: '' 'N Sync has a surprise second career that nobody expected. And Britney is still depending heavily on co-writers and co-producers. If Justin can write his own stuff, that gives him more options.''

Roberts says Timberlake also has shown a precocious tendency to ''get the joke of being a pop star, and he's doing things to expand his horizons,'' such as appearing as a young Elton John in a well-received John video.

Ross stresses that Spears has not suffered much for her own forays into acting. ''It's not like Crossroads lost money,'' he says of her recent feature film debut. And although the film's theme, I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman, was an airplay disappointment, Taylor notes that ''her association with Pepsi has been extremely high-profile and positive. We're in an age when you can never judge talent over image, and Britney really has become an icon.''

Village Voice entertainment columnist Michael Musto feels a split won't hurt the couple. ''Traditionally, for teen idols, it's always been a better PR move to have them be unattached, so they can cater to all kinds of pubescent fantasies.''

He agrees that, with or without Timberlake, Spears may have a future in music -- and beyond it.

''Britney doesn't really have the smarts of a Madonna (news - web sites), but she has a wonderful personality and a lot of charisma,'' says Musto. ''I don't necessarily see her pursuing dramatic acting in movies -- she's not going to be the next Meryl Streep -- but if they do a remake of Grease with her and Ricky Martin, that could be a good vehicle. Or I think she'd be perfect for her own sitcom. I'm certainly not losing any sleep over her career right now.''

Britney Rules The Waves
DailyRecord.co.uk has reported that BRITNEY Spears didn't look like a girl who had just been dumped as she enjoyed a sunshine break with friends yesterday.

Laughing and joking, the 20-year-old took to the seas off Florida's Miami Beach - determined to enjoy the heat and let the trials of the last few weeks melt away.

As the luxury boat sped across the water, the young superstar whipped off her top to catch even more sun.

And she didn't even mind when a flotilla of curious fans gave chase to get a better look.

Perhaps Britney was trying to make up for her spectacular snub last week. She was jeered by British fans for ignoring them at the London premiere of her new film Crossroads.

One beach-goer said yesterday: "Britney looked like she didn't have a care in the world.

"There were quite a few boats out and they all hovered around hers. But she didn't seem to care about the fans. She did give them the finger eventually though."

Britney certainly could do with the break.

Boyfriend Justin Timberlake dumped her by phone in the middle of her frantic world tour promoting Crossroads this month.

The devastated star flew home from Italy only to throw herself right back into her gruelling schedule.

Britney Spears Changes Restaurant Name To Nyla
According to LAUNCH Britney Spears has decided to change the name of her forthcoming New York City-based restaurant from Pinkey to Nyla, according to New York's Daily News. Pinkey was, of course, the nickname she was given by her erstwhile boyfriend, *NSYNC singer Justin Timberlake. Spears's restaurant will be located in the Dylan Hotel at 52 East 41st Street. Nyla stands for the pop star's two favorite places, "NY" for New York and "LA" for her home state of Louisiana.

Meanwhile, Spears's mother Lynne revealed on the singer's official website (britneyspears.com), "Britney is excited about her new project. The restaurant reminds me of an elegant old ballroom from the 1800s. Britney and I love the ornate mahogany staircase that leads to the balcony. I believe plans to open will be in May."

No Sex Please, I'm Britney
icWales.co.uk reported that THE room is hushed as Britney Spears arrives for her press conference for her debut movie Crossroads. And well it might be - with a strict ban on questions about her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake, her virginity and (most bizarrely) the terrorist attacks of September 11, so that discussion is kept as candy-floss as possible.

But when you're just 20 and at the top of the international pop-music tree, maybe penetrating world-event questions are not what what you'd expect anyway. With an entourage of possibly a dozen people (some of them giggling girlies no older than Britney herself), she enters the room in a sleeveless chamois leather top (I am informed) and flashing a sweet, shy smile. And sweet and shy is what we get. In Crossroads - not, contrary to popular belief, the big-screen version of a Midlands motel soap - Britney stars as Lucy, one of a trio of childhood girlfriends who are reunited at their high-school graduation prom. Deciding to make good on a long-ago pact to go in search of their destinies, they set off, penniless but full of dreams, on a road-trip, hitching a lift with mysterious musician Ben (Anson Mount) in his convertible.

So just how nerve-wracking was it for the current princess of pop making her first film? "I was really nervous at first," she admits. "I'm used to performing on stage and being confident with that, but this was just a whole new territory for me - it was so different. "But I had two weeks beforehand to really get an idea of who the character was, just to make me feel comfortable about things, and once I got on the set and I got the clothes on, to feel the character, that helped." Naturally, much will be made of Britney's on-screen love scene (the nearest any of us will get to asking questions about her virginity). Eventually, Lucy becomes more than just good friends with the laid-back, somewhat older Ben, but the much-vaunted "sex scene" is restricted to tasteful kissing, before the camera cuts to a thrashing ocean.

As Anson Mount puts it, "It was very nerve-wracking until I asked her to take it easy on me!" Britney bursts into laughter as Anson continues, "We couldn't get the giggles out of the way and we were burning a lot of film." Britney adds, "Anson ate a clove of garlic! I felt bad because I thought maybe his breath was really that bad, and I didn't want to say anything!" Answering most questions with a high-pitched, "Oh!", the girl from Louisiana exudes the kind of innocence and naivety you might not expect from a video-friendly babe who has made her millions from sexually suggestive songs like (I'll Be Your) Slave and her current single, Not a Girl - Not Yet a Woman. She has been on stage since she was eight-years-old, off Broadway, and probably could have made movies before now. The concept of Crossroads was Britney's own idea, the story being inspired by her own enduring friend-ship with three high-school friends.

"That's one of the things that inspired me to do the movie," she enthuses. "The whole idea of these girls being so close and going through so much together; because, still to this day, I have my three best friends, Courtney, Jansen and Laurelyn, and I think that's very inspiring." Her character Lucy reaches a crossroads in her life - but what crossroads does Britney feel she has reached? "Personally, the main crossroad in my life was probably three years ago when I left my small town and went to the big city to pursue my dreams and get a record deal," she says. Not surprisingly, Britney gets to sing in Crossroads - through a tacky karaoke bar contest her character Lucy finds her true voice. But all things considered, the movie does not feature that many songs.

Britney Drops Pinky Name For Restaurant
WENN reported that BRITNEY SPEARS has hit back at ex-boyfriend JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, by abandoning plans to name a restaurant after his pet name for her.

The LUCKY hitmaker is looking to buy into an eaterie in New York, and had told friends she planned to name the diner 'PINKEY' after the 'N SYNC hunk's nickname for her.

But after the couple's reported split this month, Britney has shelved plans and is looking for a new name.

A friend of the sexy singer says, "Following their break-up, there was no way that Britney would allow the name to be used."

A1 Snub Britney Movie
WENN reported that Brit boy band A1 snubbed an annual free cinema pass because they couldn't accept the ultimatum of seeing BRITNEY SPEARS' movie.

The CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE hunks were offered complimentary film tickets for a year on the condition that they picked them up at a screening of the pop princess' debut flick CROSSROADS.

Band member MARK READ moans, "I just do not want to see that film.

"Not even for a year of free films. It just looks rubbish."

Britney And Justin Say Bye, Bye, Bye
According to Entertainment Weekly, what's next for Britney and Justin? Now that their breakup is all but official, tell us what pop's highest-profile singles should do with themselves.

She's not a girl, not yet a woman, but she is apparently a free agent. In London this week to promote her film ''Crossroads,'' Britney Spears all but spelled it out: She and Justin Timberlake have split. Their breakup had been rumored for weeks, but until now, it had been apparent only in ambiguous signals -- they no longer appeared in public together, she stopped wearing a diamond ''friendship'' ring he gave her last summer, they were spotted in nightclubs on opposite coasts dancing into the wee hours with others (he with a mystery brunette in Hollywood, she with model Marcus Schenkenberg in New York).

The couple themselves, however, had emphatically denied the breakup. Britney denied it in an MTV interview in early March, her mom dismissed the rumors on her daughter's website, and the couple's publicist said on March 20, ''They love each other very much and have not broken up.'' Five days later, however, at a London press conference, Britney said, ''I would not say I was in an intense relationship with anyone at the moment.'' Two days later, on March 27, she told an interviewer on British TV's ''Big Breakfast'' show, ''I'm single... right now.'' It's not clear what that ''right now'' means, but with 'N Sync on tour through April and Britney touring in May, it doesn't seem like they'd have time to see anyone else, much less each other, anytime soon.

Now that they've said ''Bye Bye Bye,'' what should Britney and Justin do next?

Britney Reveals Her View About God
Ananova reported that Britney Spears has revealed her views on heaven and the afterlife. She thinks God has a "long, white beard" and "wanders around" in heaven. She also believes you can meet up with your grandparents and everyone you love there. Speaking to German entertainment magazine Cinema, she said: "Everyone is at peace and happy, and they all hop around from cloud to cloud. "In heaven you can see your grandparents and everyone you loved once again. And an old man with a long white beard wanders around, that's God." Britney also admitted that she has made hundreds of mistakes in the past but has learned from them. "There are some things that I would like to cross out of the history books though," said Britney.

Britney Singing In Her New Movie Was A Bonus
Ananova reported that Britney Spears says she wasn't originally going to sing in her debut film Crossroads. She says when she first agreed to appear in the film, her plan was to concentrate on her acting. Crossroads opens in the UK on Good Friday. Britney said: "We started to look at the script and I thought to spice it up a little bit, it'd be fun to put in a song or too." She says she had lots of creative input in the film, including choosing a song by her boyfriend Justin Timberlake's band NSync for one scene. "I thought it would be very funny for the three girls to be into NSync," Britney says. "But the character of Ben is totally over it, he just wants to listen to his rock music." Britney says she decided to move into films because she thought the script to Crossroads was too good to miss. "I didn't feel any pressure to do the movie. "It was something I wanted to do, I was on my third tour and I wanted to express myself in a different way, to challenge myself, to see it I could do it. The door was open and I just had to walk through." Britney admits to being nervous about seeing herself on the big screen for the first time: "It was very nerve-wracking, but after a little while I lost the fact that it was me and I looked at myself as the character of Lucy." Britney's younger sister, Jamie Lynn, also appears in the film as the younger version of her character Lucy, but Britney says there are no plans for the pair to work together again at the moment. Britney has also filmed a cameo appearance for the new Austin Powers film. She says she had a lot of fun working with Mike Myers. "It was very cool," she says. "I'm supposed to be very sexy throughout the scene - it was a lot of fun."

Kylie Minogue Talks About Britney
dotmusic reported that Kylie Minogue has spoken about the way Britney Spears handled her recent promotional trip to the UK.

The Aussie diva, who has a good few years experience on the US pop princess, says Britney is playing the game all wrong.

As previously reported, Britney was booed by thousands of fans in Leicester Square at the premiere of her movie debut, 'Crossroads' this week.

The 20-year-old singer, concerned with safety issues, walked straight past the waiting crowd and refused to sign autographs or mix with fans.

Kylie told a UK tabloid: "Britney should know the ropes by now. She has caused a big fuss over nothing."

"I've been in the position where people push you from one place to another. It's hard to get to everyone, but her PRs have pushed her in the wrong direction - she's been misguided."

Speaking at a charity event in London yesterday, Kylie added: "I have been there and it is really hard to get to everyone."

"Even if the fans have been waiting there for eight hours, you just can't get to everyone. I just can't do it."

"I'm sure [Britney] didn't intend to let down her fans. I think her publicity people are going to get a big talking-to."

Britney Says 'I'm Single' And 'I Do' In TV Wedding Farce
According to MTV News, As reported by USA Today, Britney Spears did tell a British television host she's single — but then again, she also told him, "I do."

The pop star had a bit of fun with the rumors that have swirled about her relationship with Justin Timberlake during her time on "The Big Breakfast," declaring herself single, accepting a marriage proposal from host Richard Bacon and even staging a mock quickie wedding — all within five minutes of screen time.

USA Today ran Spears' declaration of singlehood as confirmation that her relationship with Timberlake was over, but the quote came as part of the setup for the planned phony marriage skit, which was taped earlier but aired Wednesday morning (March 27).

"Now I know that you don't want to talk about your relationship, that's fair enough. I'm not going to ask because we know what's going on in the press, but can I ask, are you single at the moment or not?" Bacon asked Spears at the onset of the interview. "If you don't want to talk about anything at all, you can just say, 'I don't wanna say.' "

"I'm single, right now," Spears responded with a mischievous gleam in her eye.

The two bantered for a while about a Sunday People article in which Spears said she thought Bacon was cute and would like to meet him. "With that in mind," Bacon asked, getting down on one knee, "Britney Spears, light of my life, will you make me the happiest man in the world by becoming my wife?" Bacon then produced an engagement ring.

"This is a TV show, yes I will," she said, as he slipped the ring on her finger. "I can't wait to call my mom and tell her."

Getting one of the world's biggest pop stars to agree to marry him wasn't enough for Bacon, though — he wanted to seal the deal then and there. "I was thinking of making it quite a short engagement," he said, pointing out a Methodist minister who had been sitting across from them the whole time but only then became visible to the camera. Spears feigned surprise as the vicar showed them two already-prepared marriage certificate applications.

"Whoa, this is like for real. Oh my gosh," Spears exclaimed. "Where am I supposed to sign? This is pretend, right?"

Bacon said nothing, and she signed regardless. "You are now Britney Bacon," he said, then he kissed her on the cheek as a bouquet of flowers was tossed to her by someone off-camera.

"I'm married, mom!" she exclaimed to the camera. "Let's go on our honeymoon. Let's leave now and go to Vegas, baby!"

Bacon had another locale in mind for the honeymoon, a "lodge 'round the corner," which the optimistic host said he had already booked. "Obviously, we're now together for life," he reminded her.

"Um, yeah, OK," she said, laughing.

As soon as the cameras stopped rolling, her handlers took back the marriage certificate application, underscoring that the transaction was just a joke. As for Mr. Spears, one step he skipped was signing a prenuptial agreement — smart thinking since he's about to be out of a job. "The Big Breakfast," after a 10-year run, airs its last episode on Friday.

Lynne's Corner Updated: "A New Resolution"

"I feel great this bright and sunny morning. Britney, Jamie Lynn and I have made a belated New Year’s resolution. We are all on an anti-cancer diet and fitness program. I have bought all kinds of new foods. We have been working out like crazy and we feel better than ever. My doctor encouraged me to do this. We have an extensive family history of cancer. There are some new diagnostic methods coming out in the next few years. I pray they have more answers soon.

Britney has called every day. She loves Europe and wishes she had more time to spend really seeing the countries. Even though she is enjoying the trip, I'm sure she's tired and will be glad to get back home.

Brit is asking me every day what I have planned for Easter and Jamie Lynn’s birthday. I know what I’m getting her, but I’m still not sure exactly what we’ll do for the party. It is hard to surprise Jamie Lynn when you have to invite friends. Little eleven-year-old girls talk too much. I think I’ll just make plans with the mothers and surprise all of her friends as well. We will break the diet for the birthday. Baskin-Robbins birthday cake is a must!!

Britney is excited about her new project. She is opening a restaurant in New York. The restaurant reminds me of an elegant old ballroom from the 1800’s. The huge fire is the focal point. Britney and I love the ornate mahogany staircase that leads to the balcony. I believe plans to open will be in May. I’ll be sure to give you more details as the date gets closer.

Britney will leave for Los Angeles soon to begin rehearsals for her summer tour. Then she’ll be on her way to Melbourne, Australia for her movie premiere, and then on to Tokyo, Japan for a premiere and performance. Brit has a lot of travel ahead of her in the next few months. I’m glad summer is on its way. Jamie Lynn and I are going to travel with her as much as we can."

Britney Declares Her Singlehood!
USA TODAY reported that Britney Spears seems to have confirmed that she and Justin Timberlake are over. "I'm single ... right now," the pop singer told Channel 4's Big Breakfast host Richard Bacon in an interview airing Wedneday, according to British press reports. Word of trouble in pop paradise first surfaced more than a week ago when she was reportedly out carousing and crying about Timberlake breaking up with her. Exactly one week ago, her publicist put out the word that the two were still together. "They love each other very much and have not broken up," said spokeswoman Lisa Kasteler.
Now, however, Spears seems to be saying it's over. Before telling Bacon she's "single," she said at a press conference Monday that she was not "in an intense relationship now."

In London to promote her movie, Crossroads, she disappointed fans by coming an hour late to the premiere Monday — holding hands with co-star Anson Mount. She didn't stop to sign autographs, causing the 3,000 cheering fans to boo. In comparison, Tom Cruise spent an hour chatting with admirers when he opened his Vanilla Sky movie. A film company representative said Spears didn't stop because of security risks involved with such a large crowd.

Kasteler had no comment on Tuesday.

Britney: Why I Snubbed Fans
From CNN.com Britney Spears was whisked past waiting fans at the London premiere of her movie because of safety fears, according to a spokeswoman for her film company.

The 20-year-old American star enraged a crowd of thousands who had waited for hours in Leicester Square on Monday night by failing to go on a walkabout or sign autographs before the start of her movie Crossroads.

The angry scenes were in stark contrast to the reception received by Tom Cruise at the London premiere of his movie Vanilla Sky in January when, to the delight of fans, he and girlfriend Penelope Cruz embarked on a hour-long walkabout.

He even talked on the mobile phones of some fans.

But a spokeswoman for her film company said on Tuesday she wanted to meet the fans but was advised against it to prevent "security" problems.

A spokeswoman for Momentum Pictures told the Press Association: "Britney Spears's main priority at the Crossroads premiere was to meet and greet her fans.

"It was in fact her decision to go back outside twice to wave to crowds. However after assessing the situation on the ground it was deemed a security risk by all involved for her to venture too far into the crowds.

"Safety has to be paramount, not just for Britney but for her fans."

A smile for the cameras
Although she made a brief appearance on the cinema's balcony, there was no apology for failing to spend more time with fans who were upset by the brief appearance.

Jane Willis said she had travelled with her daughter Gemma, 11, from Essex, to see the star. They had been at the cinema five hours before Spears arrived.

"Gemma's crying her eyes out because she couldn't see a thing," she said.

"How does Britney expect people to go and see her film if she can't be bothered to say hello to her fans?"

Fran Handley, 16, from East Sussex, said she waited for nearly six hours in the hope of getting an autograph.

"All I saw was a flash of sequin and that was it. It wasn't worth my time."

Earlier, Britney gave her strongest on-the-record hint that she had split up with boyfriend Justin Timberlake.

Asked at a press conference if she was currently in an "intense relationship", she coyly replied: "No, I would not say I was in an intense relationship with anyone at the moment."

Later, she told ITV television that she felt entitled to protect her privacy.

"People talk about my private life. That goes with what I do. You have to accept that," she said. "But if they ask about it, I say it's none of your business."

Britney: Main priority is safety considerations
Tabloid reports on both sides of the Atlantic say she and Timberlake have parted ways, and the cover of the April 1 issue of US Weekly magazine trumpets: "Britney & Justin: It's Over."

But Spears recently told MTV that she and Timberlake were still together.

Told during her London press conference that her British fans were placing bets on her one day dating Prince William, she said: "That's nice. To be associated with him is very cool. Who wouldn't want to be a princess?"

Britney Booed In London
From DotMusic.com Britney Spears received an abusive reception at the UK premiere of her movie debut 'Crossroads' in London last night.

The Princess of Pop was roundly booed by around 3,000 fans who had waited for hours to meet their hero at Leicester Square on Monday evening.

Many of the throng, some of whom had travelled from as far afield as South Africa, were left in tears by Britney's actions, which were prompted by an hour delay in her arrival.

Despite her eventual appearance on the balcony of the cinema, Britney's reputation suffered serious damage at the premiere amongst her young audience.

Britney Fan To Meet Her Idol
icBirmingham.co.uk reported Big-time Britney Spears fan Nike White is to meet her idol in the flesh after winning a singing contest live on national television.

The 15-year-old Birmingham schoolgirl is to line up in the grand final of the Britney Karaoke competition on BBC's Saturday Show programme this weekend- singing in front of Britney.

She will then get the chance to accompany the US star to a showing of her film Crossroads.

Nike, who goes to Bishop Challenor School, reached the final after singing Lucky to win the fifth of the six televised live heats.

She now has to perform Hit Me Baby One More Time in front of Britney in the final. "I have always been a big fan of hers," Nike said.

"My aunt sent a video of me singing a Britney Spears song into the Saturday Show as they were doing a karaoke competition and I was picked to sing live with three other contestants.

"To my surprise I won, which means I am the fifth finalist."

Nike now has to spend four days in London during which she will rehearse with the other finalists before performing for Britney Spears.

"If I win the final it will be a dream come true.

"I have already met Dani Bher and Joe Mace, S Club Seven, two members of the Brookside cast and loads of other fantastic people.

Plus I'll be performing for and meeting Britney Spears," she said.

Britney Fuels Breakup Talk
According to E! Online & MSN After weeks of speculation (and denials) that she and boy-band beau Justin Timberlake have broken up, Britney Spears acknowledged Monday that, yes, she's not "in an intense relationship with anyone" right now.

While speaking during a press conference in London to promote her film Crossroads, the 20-year-old pop thongbird was mainly mum about her love life. In fact, Spears' handlers asked journalists in advance not to ask questions about her personal life.

But one reporter couldn't resist, asking Spears whether she was involved in an "intense relationship." She then replied, "No, I would not say I was in an intense relationship with anyone at the moment."

If she was hoping to silence the tabloids, this wasn't it. Up until Monday, Spears, her publicist--and even her mother--had all dismissed rumors that Britney and Justin were on the outs. Spears initially told MTV Europe that she and the 21-year-old 'N Syncer were still together. And her spokeswoman then followed up by saying "they love each other very much and have not broken up."

So far, Congress has not expressed any desire to have Britney testify on the matter. But the pop starlet's love life has certainly come under intense scrutiny over the past several weeks. The New York Post's Page Six gossip column first reported the breakup two weeks ago, and it has since provided a near daily play-by-play on Britney and Justin's activities. (Britney dancing in New York clubs...with other men! Justin hugging a "mystery brunette"!)

Then, last week, Us Weekly splashed the duo on its cover, with the screaming headline "Britney & Justin: It's Over." The magazine claimed Timberlake broke up with Spears over the phone before an 'N Sync performance in Tacoma, Washington, earlier this month.

The tabloids reported that the relationship suffered from conflicting schedules, a difficulty Spears' publicist, Lisa Kasteler, acknowledged. "The demands on their time have naturally created a significant time apart which could be misconstrued as a more permanent situation," she said.

On Monday, Spears also spoke about the trials of living a very public life--which had only been exacerbated by her relationship with Timberlake.

"People talk about my private life," she told ITV television. "That goes with what I do. You have to accept that. But if they ask about it, I say it's none of your business."

It's only natural the public has been interested. Spears and Timberlake had been unofficially crowned the queen and king of teen pop since pairing up more than two years ago. They've known each other since the early 1990s, when then 11-year-old Britney and 12-year-old Justin were cast members on the new Mickey Mouse Club.

Since taking their coupledom public at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, the twosome vacationed together and even reportedly shared a house in the Hollywood Hills.

Britney Tells Everyone She's Not 'In An Intense Relationship With Anyone'
According to Sun-Sentinel.com Britney Spears said Monday that she's not ``in an intense relationship with anyone,'' fueling speculation that she and 'N Sync's Justin Timberlake have broken up.

The 20-year-old pop singer faced the British media at a news conference to promote ``Crossroads,'' her coming-of-age road trip movie, which opened in the United States last month. Journalists were warned beforehand that Spears would ignore questions about taboo topics, such as her love life.

But when a reporter asked whether she was involved in an ``intense relationship,'' Spears replied: ``No, I would not say I was in an intense relationship with anyone at the moment.''

Later, she told ITV television that she felt entitled to protect her privacy.

``People talk about my private life. That goes with what I do. You have to accept that,'' she said. ``But if they ask about it, I say it's none of your business.''

Tabloids in Britain and the United States have reported that she and Timberlake have parted ways, and the cover of the April 1 issue of US Weekly magazine trumpets: ``Britney & Justin: It's Over.'' But Spears recently told MTV that she and Timberlake were still together.

Spears and the 21-year-old boy band member have been pop music's power couple for the past two years, and have known each other since the mid-1990s, when they were cast members on the Disney Channel's ``Mickey Mouse Club.'' At age 12, each was the other's first kiss; lately, they've shared a house in the Hollywood Hills.

In a recent interview with The Associated Press, Spears said she's aware of the constant scrutiny the relationship has been under.

``I've heard so many things about him, he's heard so many things about me _ it's a part of what we do,'' she said. ``That goes along with being a celebrity, and that's how we look at it. We don't take it to heart or take it seriously. We laugh at it, to be honest with you.''

Britney Dazzles Fans At Premiere
Lycos News reported that Throngs of screaming teenagers greeted pop princess Britney Spears on her arrival at Leicester Square for the British premiere of her first movie "Crossroads."

Up to 2,500 people, mostly young girls, gathered for a glimpse of the 20-year-old star who was sporting a backless, halter-neck silver sequined dress.

Spears was immediately ushered inside the Odeon for the screening of "Crossroads," a coming-of-age film written specifically for the diva who ranks as pop's most famous virgin.

Spears, who has rarely been out of the headlines in recent weeks over her relationship with N'Sync's Justin Timberlake, is currently in Britain promoting her new single -- "I'm a Girl, not yet a Woman."

The big question among critics will be the success of the movie -- will it prove as big a box office turkey as fellow songstress Mariah Carey's "Glitter?"

Spears, faced with endless questions over the film's fate, said: "I don't know how my movie is going to do. I'll see how it does and if it is a big flop, I'll know what NOT to do next time."

Britney's Little Sister Has Signed With Nickelodeon
Herald Sun reported that we should get ready for another Spears. Britney's younger sister Jamie Lynn, 11, is about to become a megastar like the sexy songstress.

The sixth-grader has been signed up by the Nickelodeon network for her own children's show. Jamie Lynn Spears is already a movie star - of sorts.
She played the young Britney in big sister's big-screen debut, Crossroads.

Britney also played with her hair during a scene in recent Pepsi commercials and Jamie Lynn has accompanied her sister to various music award events.

"The world had better watch out when she comes, because she is crazy," Britney said of Jamie Lynn.

Mum Lynne has written about Jamie Lynn's budding career on Britney's website.

"Jamie Lynn and I flew to Los Angeles to visit Britney and to meet with the network," Lynne Spears wrote.

"The network called last week about Jamie Lynn doing some work in television. Jamie Lynn is ecstatic. Britney and I are, too."

Mrs Spears said Jamie Lynn, who lives with her in Louisiana, would have to keep her grades up if she wanted to be an entertainer.

Britney & Justin: The Plot Thickens
Reuters reported that the mystery surrounding the allegedly troubled romance between pop stars Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake deepened on Thursday as a magazine declared their relationship dead, while the couple's publicist issued her strongest denial yet of their breakup.

Spears, 20, and 'N Sync singer Timberlake, 21, have been at the center of a media frenzy in recent weeks amid reports that their fairy-tale coupling had been undone by their busy schedules. The pop idols have known each other since 1993 when they were preteen cast mates on television's "The Mickey Mouse Club."

In a four-page cover story declaring "Britney & Justin: It's Over," the latest issue of US Weekly magazine quoted an unidentified source close to the couple as saying, "They're done."

Timberlake, currently on tour with 'N Sync, reportedly called Spears from the road earlier this month to end their relationship, US Weekly said. It quoted sources as saying the couple had started bickering constantly in the preceding months, while Spears was apparently dismayed to see paparazzi shots of Timberlake hugging a mystery brunette in Los Angeles.

Both have since been spotted in clubs dancing with other people, while Spears reportedly drowned her sorrows in several Los Angeles nightspots, and canceled appearances in Europe where she has been promoting her new film, "Crossroads."

But the couple's publicist, Lisa Kasteler, broke her virtual media silence on Thursday to issue a statement responding to the "rumors running rampant" about the couple.

"To set it straight, both of them are very busy and focusing on their careers. They love each other very much and have not broken up. The demands on their time have naturally created a significant time apart which could be misconstrued as a more permanent situation. As for sightings in clubs, they are both young and love to dance."

With 'N Sync on tour in North America until April 28, and with Spears set to start her own two-month tour on May 24, both can look forward to more significant time apart.

Britney starts fire in her apartment
Ananova reported that Britney Spears has set fire to her New York apartment after leaving a candle burning. Britney left a candle burning in front of an air vent while she went shopping with a friend. When they returned, a wall was on fire and Britney had to call the fire brigade. Britney's mum, Lynne, said: "Britney went to New York for four days. She and Jenny, her friend, shopped every day. One of those nights, they all came in to a real mess. "Brit left a candle burning. The wall caught fire and the fire department had to put it out." Lynne says Britney has previously set fire to the bathroom in the family home after leaving a candle burning, reports The Sun. "Brit has really learned a lesson this time," said her mum.

Britney Fan Denies Stalking The Star
Ananova reported that a Swedish Britney Spears fan has denied stalking the singer. Ruben Garay used to run the world's biggest unofficial Britney fansite, WorldOfBritney.com. He says he was branded a stalker after criticising Britney for not caring about her fans in a posting on his website. Britney was surrounded by extra security guards while publicising her movie Crossroads in Stockholm earlier this week. It was claimed she was at risk from an "over-aggressive" stalker, the Daily Record reports. But Garay has dismissed allegations that he is a threat to her safety, and says he is still on holiday in the US. He told WorldOfBritney.com: "It seems as if Britney's people are extremely mad that I closed down the site and have decided to blacken my name and brand me with some kind of a freak stalker status, fabricating rumours and telling the press things that aren't true. "I would never ever want to hurt Britney like these people are claiming I was planning to do, I still respect her as a human being."

Britney And Justin Not Broken Up
From dotmusic.com Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake have released a statement insisting they are still together, after weeks of rumours suggesting pop's golden couple had split.

The UK press has been working overtime this month claiming Spears and Timberlake were no more, with some newspapers carrying 'suggestive' photographs of the 'NSYNC singer with another girl.

However, the statement insists they "have not broken up".

It reads: "To set it straight, both of them are very busy and focusing on their careers.

"They love each other very much and have not broken up. The demands on their time have naturally created a significant time apart, which could be misconstrued as a more permanent situation".

In reference to reports that both have been seen flaunting their freedom in numerous nightclubs across the globe, the statement concludes: "As for spotting in clubs, they are both young and like to dance".

Nikka Costa To Support Britney Spears On North American Tour
According to CDNOW Nikka Costa, whose track "Everybody Got Their Something" is featured in Britney Spears' movie Crossroads, has landed some dates on Spears' forthcoming Dream Within a Dream North American summer tour.

Costa, Goddaughter of Frank Sinatra, will take the opening slot from the tour's kickoff date of May 24 in Las Vegas through June 16 in Houston, according to a spokesperson for Spears. Spears' tour, however, runs through July 22.

Is A Swede Stalking Britney Spears?
FALSE RUMOR: MSNBC.com reported that Swedish police believe they have identified Britney Spears’ overly aggressive fan, as reported here Tuesday — but the “stalker” is making his own counter-charges.

The fan is a 19-year-old who used to run one of the Internet’s most popular fan sites, and he says he isn’t a threat to Spears. The man — he has been named in the Swedish press, but we’ll just call him “R” — is accusing Spears’ handlers of going after him because he shut down his Web site and said some unkind things about them.

“I’d had enough,” R told the Swedish press. “I’m disappointed in how people around her see her just as a product, and not as a human being. They constantly worked against me and wanted to control everything on the site. . . . They’re angry because I took down the site and wrote what I did.”

Britney, Justin Continue To Shoot Down Breakup Claims
MTV News Online reported that amid rampant tabloid rumors, Britney Spears and 'NSYNC's Justin Timberlake have issued a statement insisting that they are still very much a couple.

"To set it straight, both of them are very busy and focusing on their careers," read the statement, which was issued Wednesday (March 20). "They love each other very much and have not broken up. The demands on their time have naturally created a significant time apart, which could be misconstrued as a more permanent situation."

Spears herself shot down the breakup rumors in an interview with MTV Italy over a week ago (see "Britney Spears Denies Reports Of Split With Justin Timberlake"), but the rumor mill has continued to churn.

Reports pop up almost daily in the New York tabloids with eyewitness accounts of the two dancing with prospective new significant others. Even Us Weekly is giving the story credence, putting the headline "It's Over" on the cover of the magazine's issue out this Friday (March 22). Citing unnamed friends who claim to be close to 'NSYNC, Us Weekly reports that the power-pop couple are quite combative, breaking up often only to make up later, "but not this time. They're done."

"As for spottings in clubs, [we] are both young and like to dance," Spears and Timberlake said via their statement.

One of the reports that purported to prove that Timberlake was courting new prospects was also debunked: Though the New York Post ran a photo depicting Timberlake lunching with another woman, she turned out to be his agent, Shani Rosenzweig.

Lynne's Corner Updated: "Sisters In Showbiz"

"Jamie Lynn just got home from school. No homework this week because of achievement testing. All we have to do is get her to bed on time so she can think more clearly. It is getting rather hard to go to bed early, because we are having more daylight, and it has been beautiful spring weather here in Louisiana. I feel sorry for the people that are having snow and rainstorms.

Jamie Lynn had a wonderful spring break. She had friends over, shopped, went to a dance, and shot a Clorox commercial on Thursday and Friday with two of her best friends. The girls had a really good time doing the commercial together. The setting was in a beautiful old New Orleans home. The girls’ hair and make-up were done in the guesthouse next door. We mothers could not believe all three girls got the commercial together. The director said they liked their chemistry as a threesome. Actually, they never lost their energy throughout the whole shoot. Although, it left all three of them exhausted when it was over.

We mothers had a great time browsing the little shops in the old part of New Orleans. I had never been in this part of the city before. It was really interesting looking through the antique stores. I bought a framed charcoal that was dated back to 1865. It made me think of my mother. There were all kinds of little shops. We felt like we’d gone back in time.

Britney went to New York for four days. She and Jenny, her friend, stayed with Bryan. Brit and Jenny enjoyed spending time together, since they had not seen each other in a while. They shopped every day! Bryan and Lauren took them out on the town a few times too. One of those nights, they all came in to a real mess! Brit had left a candle burning in front of an air vent. The wall caught on fire, and the fire department had to come to put it out.

This is the second time this has happened. Brit left a candle burning in her bathroom in our Louisiana home. Jamie Lynn jumped around it somehow and caught her bathroom on fire. She has really learned a lesson this time. I love candles too, and I have to remind myself to really be cautious with them.

In better news, Britney watched the new video she most recently shot. You will love it. It is probably the best yet! I wish I had the date on its debut, but I don’t. I’m sure it is really soon!

Well, my dogs are tired of waiting for me to take them outside. They are almost bigger than me, so I’d better go. Talk to you soon!"

Britney Writes Advert For Pepsi
Ananova reported Britney Spears has written the theme tune for a new television advertising campaign in which she appears alongside some of the world's top footballers.

The pop star is shown demonstrating some never-seen-before ball skills in the new Pepsi advert together with footballers such as Rivaldo, Emmanuel Petit and Edgar Davids.

She has also penned the exclusive backing track for the advert, which will appear on TV in the UK.

In a Pepsi press release, Britney says: "Kicking the football around in Pepsi's ad brought back some great memories for me. It was a lot of fun and really inspired me when writing the single for Pepsi."

Britney 'Spearheads' New Discs
According to BBC News Britney Spears, 'N Sync and R Kelly are to release their music in a new format intended to replace the CD, it has been reported.
The artists' record label, Jive Records, will become the first label to commit their roster to the new DataPlay medium, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The DataPlay format is designed to store almost any kind of information in a disc which looks like a large coin in a clear plastic shell.

Universal Music Group, EMI Group and BMG Entertainment have also announced plans to distribute music on DataPlay discs, but have not yet named specific artists.

'Benefits'

The BMG group called the new format "a great opportunity for our industry".

Pete Jones, President of BMG Distribution, said: "The feedback from both retail and our labels to DataPlay has been overwhelmingly positive, and the consumer benefits are many."


N'Sync's Celebrity is one of the US's fastest-selling CDs

Each disc should be able to hold more than 11 hours of compressed music files, or the equivalent of five complete pre-recorded CDs.

But they will also be able to store hundreds of high-resolution photographs, 100 e-books or dozens of games.

The makers of the disc say they will resist piracy but will permit consumers to make their own personal copies and compilations.

This feature is seen as essential to make the new format attractive to buyers yet acceptable to the music industry.

The record labels hope DataPlay will enable music to be combined with videos, interviews, photos and more on the same disc.

The discs can also contain internet links to more content, such as previous releases from the artist's catalogue.

DataPlay discs and music players are set to go on sale in the US in the summer, with players likely to cost $280-$450 (£195-£315).

Blank discs are expected to cost $5-$12 (£3.50-£8.40).

Timberlake 'Amused' By Britney Split Stories
According to Ananova Justin Timberlake was amused by press reports that he and Britney Spears had split up.

A spokeswoman for NSync says the reports were "just a rumour."

She says Timberlake and his bandmates were laughing about it.

The spokeswoman also denied NSync are splitting up.

She says the band, who have been together seven years, are taking "a little hiatus" of about eight months and should be back together by early next year.

Britney Spears in the Restaurant Business?
AP reported that Britney Spears will be the co-owner of a new restaurant, tentatively called Pinkey after her nickname. The eatery will be run by restaurateur Bobby Ochs, who has previously teamed with celebrities Marla Maples and Patrick Swayze, according to Crain's New York Business. The restaurant, on East 41st Street, will be a moderately priced American bistro, Crain's is reporting in its issue on newsstands Monday. It is scheduled to open by the end of May.

Britney Featured In Laser Show At The H.R. MacMillan Space Centre
Around Town reported that the geezers wanna rock but the kids wanna pop. With that in mind, the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre is firing up the lasers this Saturday to the sounds of Top 40 radio. Laser Pop Power features the hottest tunes from the airwaves painted in laser beams across the domed roof of the Planetarium Theatre. Artists in the new show include Britney Spears, Nelly Furtado, Destiny's Child and ABBA Teens in a 45-minute show that features the images and sounds of popular music, full-concert sound, giant format high rez video and more lasers than a Jedi Knight convention.

PeopleNews.com reported that Anyone hoping to see Britney Spears upending David Beckham with a crunching tackle when the pair film their World Cup Pepsi advert together will be disappointed to hear that they will never even meet. Pepsi has decided that it is just too expensive to fly all its stars – including Becks, Britney, Brazil’s Rivaldo and co – to the same location for filming, and will instead shoot each stars action sequence separately, splicing them together by the magic of modern technology to make it look like they are all playing together on the same field. Sarah Jessica Parker Ditches Britney For Sex And The City
IMDB reported that Sex And The City lead star Sarah Jessica Parker personally vetoed singer Britney Spears' planned appearance on the hit TV show. Parker, 36, "threw a fit", according to American magazine Us Weekly, after learning of the plan to feature the curvy 20-year-old in an episode of the saucy American show. "I worked too damned hard to get this show to where it is today, and I'll be damned if I'm going to be upstaged by a Mouseketeer," a source claims Parker ranted, referring to Britney's previous TV experience as a youngster on The Mickey Mouse Club show. The source goes onto claim, "When it was announced Britney would appear on the show, Sarah felt it was nothing but a casting gimmick. And she wasn't happy that a 20-year-old would make 36-year-old Sarah look like a much older woman."

Britney Has Thought About Doing Her Own Clothing Line
AP reported that could Britney Spears be the next pop star to come out with a clothing line?

"I have thought about that," Spears told The Associated Press in a recent interview. "That would probably be something I do when I take a little break; because I love clothes, I would really be able to put all my time and energy in to it."

Spears has gotten as much — if not more — attention for her clothes as her music. Teens have copied her sometimes revealing garb, to the chagrin of some parents, and her fashion choices have landed her a spot on Mr. Blackwell's worst dressed list.

Recently, the 20-year-old branched out into acting with her film debut, "Crossroads." She said she's looking at other scripts and hopes to make another movie within the next two years. But now, her focus is her music.

"Maybe when I become not passionate about what I do, and when my steam is going down, then I will definitely just take a year off maybe go to school, or maybe, I don't know ... open up a clothing store or something," she said. "But right now, it's like — I don't know! I love doing what I do so much!"

What's Up With Britney?
According to Hollywood.com Ever since Britney Spears told reporters in Cologne, Germany, last week that she and boyfriend Justin Timberlake hardly get to see each other because of their hectic schedules, rumors spread that the happy pop duo has parted ways.

Now, London's The Sun is reporting that Spears, 20, canceled out of a Top of the Pops appearance because she is suffering from exhaustion.

The pop princess left thousands of fans disappointed when she also canceled her Paris concert, where she was to perform after the premiere of Crossroads. According to the tabloid, Spears left the film in a waiting limo before the end credits even rolled.

Despite reports that Timberlake was seen all over Los Angeles with a mysterious brunette, embracing outside a restaurant and later dirty-dancing at Hollywood nightclub A.D., Spears has adamantly denied rumors that the two have split.

Spears, on the other hand, is rumored to have turned to hers and 'N Sync's teen choreographer Wade Robson for comfort. Robson, you may recall, was the one who was questioned in 1994 because he said he'd slept in the same bed with Michael Jackson (although he told authorities that nothing bad had happened).

The plot thickened when Spears was spotted having a public cry at Les Deux Café in Hollywood earlier this week with actress Tara Reid. Reports also surfaced that Spears has stopped wearing a diamond friendship ring given to her by Timberlake.

A columnist for The Sun said: 'She has grown up--but as the outfits have got smaller, so have the record sales.'

'She was once seen as the new Madonna, but industry skeptics feel she could be heading for burnout and be muttered in the same breath as '80s teen stars Tiffany and Debbie Gibson.'

Spears, however, seems to have a backup plan. In a recent interview with the Associated Press, the singer, who made Mr. Blackwell's worst-dressed list two years in a row, said she is not ruling out the world of fashion.

Glass Broken At French Premiere Of Crossroads
WENN reported that BRITNEY SPEARS was caught in the middle of a security scare in Paris, France, on Tuesday night when a stone was thrown through a glass door just feet away from the singer. The pop princess was whisked into a cinema staging the French premiere of her debut movie CROSSROADS by a swarm of bodyguards as glass shattered onto the red carpet outside the event. Minutes later, Britney was escorted from the premises to a waiting fleet of cars as fans screamed after her. Police are investigating exactly what happened and whether the singer was in fact a target.

Britney Gets Her Kit On For World Cup AD
According to Sky News Britney Spears strips to her undies in her new movie - but puts her kit on in a new advert for Pepsi.

The chart star has pulled on a stylised football strip to play soccer in a commercial to be screened before the World Cup Finals this summer.

Britney's advert is also believed to feature England captain David Beckham.

The singer is reported to have split from boyfriend Justin Timberlake - but she still denies it in public.

She has a lucrative multi-million-pound deal to promote Pepsi.

However Britney, whose movie debut Crossroads is shortly to be released in the UK, has been spotted in recent months drinking rival beverages.

Britney Planning To Go Home
RUMOR: WENN reported that BRITNEY SPEARS has cancelled a romantic break with JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - to return to the comfort of her mother. The sexy singer, reported to have split from her 'N SYNC singer fiance, had planned to visit her new Florida home, which Justin helped pick, for the first time following her current European promotional duties. However, Britney has cancelled the plans to instead go home to visit her mother LYNNE, dad JAMIE and sister JAMIE LYNN, 11, in her native Kentwood, Louisiana instead. Whilst Lynne would not talk about the break-up, she confirmed the change of plans, "We always plan to do things, and at the last minute changed our minds. "Britney still hasn't seen her new place in Florida - she has seen plenty of pictures and a video, but not the real thing. "Hopefully, she will get a chance to see it on her next vacation. A trip to Florida would be great after the cold weather we're having. "Hopefully we'll have some good weather for Britney to enjoy the short vacation. One thing is for sure, we can always shop!" It is thought Britney could not face the prospect of going to the home, on exclusive island Key Biscayne, she found after a romantic Florida holiday with Timberlake, who is reported to be now dating someone else, last year.

WENN reported that BRITNEY SPEARS insists she's streetwise - despite being chaperoned by an entourage of bodyguards and her mother since the age of 16. The busty blonde plays troubled teen LUCY in new film CROSSROADS, and insists she's far more hip than her character. The singer says, "I think she's kinda naive and very unassuming, whereas I'm more streetwise. "Who knows, maybe if I wasn't in the job I'm in, I wouldn't be like that." Lynne's Corner Updated: Looking Forward to Spring
Lynne responds to recent tabloid reports and fills us in on Jamie Lynn’s spring break. Here is the updated Lynne's corner from BritneySpears.com,
"Another week has passed. Where has the time gone? There is not much to report this week. Brit is overseas promoting Crossroads, although the tabloids (more like “tall talebloids”) say otherwise. These reporters need to be more consistent. Who can keep track? According to them, one week Britney is dating the Prince of Wales, the next week she's engaged to Justin and this week, the rumor mill has her and Justin broken up.

I’ve wasted enough time on those silly little people. In other words, don’t waste your time and money on their fiction and sometimes science fiction tales. I’m even starting to doubt the “real” news these days.

Enough about that. Jamie Lynn has spring break this week. I had some doctor’s appointments for both of us planned, and it has put a hole in our previous plans to go to Florida. On top of that, we feel sure that Jamie Lynn may be called for a commercial. She and her friends did really well on their call back yesterday. The girls made up their own jingle for the product. Evidently, the director loved it. He taped the girls doing their own jingle. This shall be interesting.

Bryan is super busy with his job and Lauren. I can always tell when he is happiest, because he doesn’t call me as much. Britney is the same way. I may hear from her every three days when she is content. I guess you need someone to sound off to when you are restless or bored. Don’t misunderstand, I love for my children to be happy. It’s just that I also love to hear from them more often!

Spring is almost here. I can tell by the bizarre weather. There was a big storm last night. This morning it is a clear and sunny day. Britney has a few days off. Hopefully, we’ll have some good weather to enjoy the short vacation. One thing is for sure, we can always shop!

Britney Spears Denies Reports Of Split With Justin Timberlake
MTV is reporting that while Britney Spears may have plenty to be upset about, her recent sob session with actress friend Tara Reid wasn't due to breaking up with boyfriend and 'NSYNC singer Justin Timberlake, because the split didn't happen — despite widespread reports from the BBC, the New York Post and various British tabloids.

Spears emphatically denied the reports to MTV Europe on Monday (March 11), saying, "No, that's not true. Me and Justin did not split up."

The breakup rumors appear to have spread rapidly in Europe based on a comment Spears made at a press conference she gave in Cologne, Germany, on Friday. In town to promote her big-screen debut, "Crossroads" — called "Not A Girl" in Germany — she told reporters that she and Timberlake hardly get to see each other due to their hectic schedules and "work commitments." Not an uncommon complaint, but it sparked more speculation than usual, since Spears had been spotted having a public cry at Les Deux Café in Hollywood with Reid earlier that week.

More reports surfaced that Spears had been seen crying at other Hollywood hot spots, such as the Standard, and that she had stopped wearing a diamond friendship ring Timberlake had given her last summer. Tabloids fed the rumors, quoting unnamed sources said to be close to the couple, who claimed that they were unhappy with all the inquiries into their private life and that each was jealous of the other's screen kisses and love scenes. For Timberlake, that would be his liplock with the brunette in the "Gone" video.

In the February issue of Cosmopolitan, Spears said Timberlake's video kiss "devastated" her: "You could have just taken a knife and stabbed me. ... I stormed into the bathroom. I was like, 'Don't talk to me for a second. I need a moment, please.' It was just too much for me." Likewise, Timberlake was said to be miffed at Spears' kissing scenes with French model Bryce Durand in her Herb Ritts-directed video, "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know," and with actor Anson Mount in "Crossroads."

Spears said that despite initial pangs of jealousy, they each realize that whatever happens on screen is no reflection of their relationship. "That's a part of what we do," Spears told The Associated Press. "And I accept that ... it's just acting."

Britney Paints Easter Egg For Charity Auction
Ananova reported that Britney Spears, Boy George and Vivienne Westwood have painted Easter eggs for a charity auction. They are being sold on the internet to raise money for Aids charities in Austria. Bidding started at as little as one euro, and will run until March 21. The auction is being conducted by the internet auction house OneTwoSold. Fashion gurus Karl Lagerfeld and Christian Lacroix as well as Shaggy and DJ Otzi have also joined the fundraising project. The highest internet bidders for the Easter eggs will be invited to attend the final auction gala at the Vienna auction house Dorotheum on March 22. Ninety eggs in all will go under the hammer, painted by more than 60 stars. The auction has been organised by Gery Keszler, director of the Austrian Organisation Aids Life, and all money raised will go towards the Life Ball which will take place on May 19. He said: "Last time I looked you could get your hands on a Britney egg for £21 and a Shaggy egg for £12, but I expect the price to have risen a lot by the time the auction ends. There is still plenty of time to get a bid in."

Britney And Justin Unlikely To Have Split Up
Ananova reported that Britney Spears' record company says it is unlikely she has split from boyfriend Justin Timberlake. It had been rumoured Britney ended her two-year relationship with the NSync star last week. But a Jive Records spokeswoman told Ananova the reports aren't true as far as she knows. It is thought the rumour began after Britney's recent press conference in Germany, to promote her new film Crossroads. The singer told reporters she never gets to see Justin because of work commitments. Jive says it will be releasing an official statement later today. Britney and Justin first met on Disney TV show The Mickey Mouse Club in 1993. Earlier this year, Britney said she intended to marry Justin and have his children.

Britney Broke Up With Justin?
RUMOR: According to a article in the NY Post Britney and Justin Timberlake are no longer together, it said "Looks like Britney is going to be a virgin for a little while longer. L.A. sources report that pop tart has busted up with Justin Timberlake. Spears was trying to drown her sorrows on Monday night at Les Deux Cafe in Hollywoord with pal Tara Reid. Tuesday night, she was out on the town again at the Standard, crying into her beer. We bet it won't be long before she lands a new man. Spears rep. Lisa Kastelet, had no comment."

Britney's Wee Bit Of Bother
FALSE RUMOR: Sky News reported that Britney Spears fled for cover after having urine thrown at her as she filmed a TV ad. The star was bombed with buckets of urine by angry neighbours as she sang on location in the early hours of the morning, according to the News of the World.

Residents staged their protest at around 4am in downtown Los Angeles, hurling bucket-loads at the 21-year-old singer as she performed in the street below.

The star fled for cover in a nearby trailer and filming was abandoned shortly afterwards, the paper reports.

One resident reportedly said: "Sure, I opened the window and yelled shut-up - but I would never have done such a vile thing."

But the resident added: "We kept hearing the same song over and over but what made it worse were two 100ft spotlights. They lit up our apartment like it was daytime.

"Lots of people in the block opened their windows and started screaming at her.

"Britney certainly didn't deserve the bucket treatment. She's a brilliant singer ... but perhaps not when you're trying to get to sleep".

Ananova reported that Britney Spears's little sister is set to launch a career in showbusiness. Jamie Lynn is Britney's younger sister and is just 11 years old. According to their mother, Jamie Lynn has been talking to some American TV networks about launching her career. "Jamie Lynn and I flew to Los Angeles to visit Britney, and to meet with a network" Lynne Spears writes on the official Britney website. "The network called last week about Jamie Lynn doing some work in television. Jamie Lynn is ecstatic. Britney and I are too, but we want a situation where she can still be a kid and have fun".

Britney Praises Mike Myers
WENN reported that BRITNEY SPEARS found it difficult to be sexy when filming with funnyman MIKE MYERS. The busty blonde plays herself in the latest AUSTIN POWERS movie, which is yet to be titled after producers were forced to drop the name GOLDMEMBER by JAMES BOND movie-makers. Britney says, "I love Austin Powers. I was supposed to be this sexy vixen, but it was really hard being in character all the time because Mike Myers was standing in front of me, cracking me up the whole time. "Even when we really tired at eight in the morning, his energy kept everyone going. That was really cool."

Britney #1 On List Of 25 Women Who've Changed MTV
YM's MTV Issue (April 2002) reveals the "25 Women Who've Changed MTV" Britney Spears is #1, beating-out her idols, Madonna #2 & Janet Jackson #3. She even edged-out so-called pop rivals Christina Aguilera #7 & Mandy Moore #19. J.Lo came it at #4, while Shakira was #9, just slipping by Pink at #10.

Here's what Britney's blurb said:

"Britney's the ultimate entertainer. She's a sometimes-shocking, always-sexy work-in-progress, changing her looks, fashion, and music so it's always cutting-edge. Since making her schoolgirl debut in "...Baby One More Time," we've seen her strip down to a body stocking (2000 VMA's), belly dance with a snake (2001 VMA's), and act like a goof (with Justin in her Diary episode). Britney Addresses Her Critics In 'Overprotected' Video
MTV News Online reported that Spears will do as she pleases no matter who's watching. Even the protective gaze of a burly bodyguard or a sudden downpour isn't enough to stand between her and a night of fun.

That's the gist of Spears' new video, for a remix of "Overprotected," which was shot last weekend in Los Angeles, according to its director Chris Applebaum (American Hi-Fi, Willa Ford). The clip furthers her "I'm Not a Girl" crusade to shirk her adolescent image, as she and five friends outsmart her bodyguard with the old "you're wanted elsewhere" trick and sneak out of a hotel and into an underground dance club.

Spears envisioned the treatment herself, said Applebaum, who also remarked that her stamina and patience through the marathon shoot, which wrapped 5 a.m. Monday morning after 23 consecutive hours of filming, was impressive. The director, who has dozens of videos under his belt, added that the shoot went so smoothly, the most derailing obstacle was less-than-scrumptious catering.

The clip opens with the pop princess and her friends in a hotel room, where a tabloid reporter on television criticizes her for the sexy, revealing outfits she's often seen wearing publicly. At that point Spears, determined to be self-sufficient and unaffected by media comments, leads her pals out of the hotel and toward the dance club. But before they arrive, they're caught in an alley by a flash shower. As they make their entrance, they're dripping wet, an image which makes for more sensationalist fodder for the tabloid reporter. Some girls just can't win.

Producer Rodney Jerkins is responsible for reworking the Britney track. The song, which he described as having an old-school-type rhythm, will begin to surface at radio April 1, according to Jive Records.

Lynne's Corner Updated: Grammy Week

"Last week was a good one for Brit. She stayed busy, but not too busy. Britney attended the Grammys with Justin. Matthew Perry presented with Britney. He is a funny guy. Justin and Britney went to some of the parties after the ceremony. The Grammy show was really good this year. I don’t know why the ratings were down so much. Who knows?

Britney worked with Brian Freidman on choreography for her new video that premieres soon. It’s going to be one of her best yet. Brit and Brian F. talked on the telephone non-stop about the concept. After about the fifteenth call, I think they decided on the final idea. Sometimes I think Britney must dream about these things, because she wakes up talking about the way this or that should go.

Jamie Lynn and I flew to Los Angeles to visit Britney, and to meet with a network. The network called last week about Jamie Lynn doing some work in television. Jamie Lynn is ecstatic. Britney and I are too, but we want a situation where she can still be a kid and have fun. Jamie Lynn also has to keep her grades up if she plans to start the entertainment business. I found her and Crystal playing with the SmartFlash cards you can buy on Britney’s Web site instead of studying today. She and Crystal love them.

Britney has another vacation soon. She still hasn’t even seen her new place in Florida. She has seen plenty of pictures and a video, but not the real thing. We always plan to do things, and at the last minute change our minds. Hopefully, she will get a chance to see it on her next vacation. A trip to Florida would be great after the cold weather we are having here in Louisiana.

Britney is reading script after script for her next movie. There is one we especially love. I read the book a couple of years ago. The part seems to be perfect for her. She knows she will get the part if it’s meant to be. Personally, I also think Brit could do a romantic comedy.

Brit just called from Los Angeles to tell me she and Rob (her bodyguard) are sporting around in some new vehicle and loving it. She has a day off, which she always enjoys. She had just eaten some Chinese and was about to go shopping.

Britney is going overseas soon. I don’t like it when she is so far away. When she was a little girl, I thought going a hundred miles was far. Today, I’m happy to have her in a neighboring state! Just knowing we will have another vacation soon placates me."

Britney Nominated For Two World Music Awards
Ananova reported that Destiny's Child, Kylie Minogue, Alicia Keys and Enrique Iglesias are among the performers at tonight's 14th annual World Music Awards. Enya, Shaggy and Andrea Bocelli will also perform at the awards ceremony in Monte Carlo. All the artists are among the list of nominees for the awards, which also includes Robbie Williams, Linkin Park, Michael Jackson and Dido. The World Music Awards honour the best selling acts of the past year. The World Music Awards will be hosted by Shaggy, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Mark McGrath, and celebrities presenting awards include Naomi Campbell, Rachel Hunter and Michael Bolton.

Britney To Release New Single In The UK
For all your visitors from the UK, Ananova reported that Britney Spears' new single is due out on April 1. I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman was written by Max Martin and Dido. It is taken from the album Britney. The song also features on the soundtrack to Britney's movie debut, Crossroads. It will be backed by a Spanish Fly remix plus a ballad entitled I Run Away, which was produced by BT. Britney's Live From Las Vegas HBO Special, which was screened by Channel 5 on New Year's Day, will be released on video and DVD on April 8. Crossroads opens at cinemas across the UK on March 29.

Star Magazine reported that Britney Spears is shacking up with her 'N Sync beau – and it has broken her dear mother's heart! Mom Lynne Spears, 46, is telling friends that she is furious that Spears, 20, is in a trial marriage with lover Justin Timberlake at the pair's new $3 million Los Angeles mansion.

"What they're doing is a sin," stormed Lynne, a devout Baptist who lives in Louisiana with Britney's dad Jamie.

Britney Doesn't Know Yoko
FOXNews.com had an interesting article about Britney. "You may wonder what the real Britney Spears is like. Or you may not. But in case you do, I now have something of a report.

You could guess that a girl without much of a formal education is no rocket scientist. She's not going to know much about the history of civilization, world economics, or how to split an atom. What you might expect is that she'd know something in the category of pop music, enough to play Rock and Roll Jeopardy on VH-1.

But here's some upsetting news. Brit was stymied on Tuesday night when presented with a pretty easy question. Here's what it was: "Who is Yoko Ono?""

Britney Email Worm Wiggles Through Cyberspace
We reported this on Tuesday but just thought I would mention this again that Reuters is reporting that Britney Spears can add one more notch to her soaring global popularity: the perky pop star has become the inspiration for a potentially destructive email worm touring through cyberspace, security experts said on Friday.

The bug, labeled variously as "VBS/Britney-A" and "VBS_BRITNEYPIC.A," is considered low risk because it has infected a small number of computer users in Europe since it was initially detected on Thursday morning, computer experts said.

But because the worm carries an attachment masquerading as a picture of the 20-year-old pop idol, security officials were still on alert yesterday.

"Because this says 'Britney Spears' we thought this may have potential to spread," said Natasha Staley, a spokeswoman for British computer security firm Sophos Anti-Virus.

The name "Britney Spears" is consistently one of the most popular search terms on Internet search engines, and the massively successful singer has been the inspiration behind scores of fan sites.
