New Info On Britney's NASCAR Film Project

L.A. office targets growth for NASCAR through new media By Shav Glick Times Staff Writer April 24, 2003 The pet slogan in NASCAR is "Grow the sport." With 59% of Winston Cup fans between the ages of 18 and 44, where do you grow it? How about the under 18s, the fans of tomorrow? And how do you reach them? Why, Britney Spears, of course. NASCAR has aligned itself with the pop singer for a movie about the excitement and drama of stock car racing, on and off the racing surface. Spears will not play a driver —— she will be the daughter of a team owner —— but she will co-star with the Winston Cup regulars. That project, scheduled to begin production this summer, is one of the many ideas formulated and developed by the Los Angeles office of NASCAR. Located on the 30th floor of Century Park East, the office is the first for a major sports organization to be located in Los Angeles. Paul Brooks, vice president for broadcasting and digital entertainment, heads a staff of 16 who direct all of the sport's broadcasting, entertainment programming and new media ventures from there. "Everything we do here is to help grow the sport, to bring added value to all of our teams, sponsors and tracks," said Brooks, a former paramedic who has been with NASCAR for 10 years and opened the L.A. office in 2000. "The Britney film will be an authentic look at our sport, not a hokey one that most auto racing pictures portray. Britney has a huge following and her fans will come whether they know about NASCAR or not. After seeing the film, they'll know, and we hope they'll like what they see." From his perch on the 30th floor, Brooks can see his major partner, Fox and its family of networks. NASCAR is in the third year of a six-year television partnership with Fox, NBC and TNT. "Being close to them has been invaluable," Brooks said. "Speed Channel is the eighth-fastest growing cable network overall, in 60 million homes, and NASCAR is its heart and soul." As evidence of NASCAR's overpowering popularity, Fox's telecast of the Virginia 500 two weeks ago at Martinsville Speedway drew more U.S. households (5,631,000) than the combined nine races this season for the Indy Racing League, CART and Formula One (4,664,000 for nine races, three each). The Britney Spears movie is only one of many new ideas developed by Brooks and Jeffrey Pollack, managing director for broadcasting and new media. Night racing is another project. Seven Winston Cup events are at night this year, six on Saturdays and the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday, May 25, after the Indianapolis 500. "We're always looking for opportunities to grow our audience and bring in new fans," Brooks said. "We think night races are a great way to do that." California Speedway, which is lobbying for a second Cup race to go with Sunday's Auto Club 500, is considering a night race, although at the moment the track's use permit with San Bernardino County does not allow it. "When NASCAR announced 'Realignment 2004' and mentioned that more night races would be considered, we started to take steps to consider lights at California Speedway," track President Bill Miller said. "We have gone through the due diligence of what it would take to light this facility, and we are in the process of revising our conditional use permit that would allow the speedway to host racing events into the evening." There is much more going on in the L.A. office than just TV programming, Pollack said. "Network television is the killer application for NASCAR, but NASCAR.com, NASCAR TV, NASCAR IN CAR, and NASCAR Radio all extend and support the experience," he said. •• NASCAR.com is the sport's official site on the Internet. It logged more than 1.25 billion page views last year, a 25% increase from 2001. Among its features are a fantasy league and online chats. •• NASCAR TV offers a block of programming that is anchored by "Totally NASCAR," which airs Monday through Friday on Speed Channel. Fox, Fox Sports Net, FX and Speed Channel air the first half of the Winston Cup season. NBC and TNT take over July 5 with the Pepsi 400 from Daytona International Speedway. Twenty-eight Cup races appear on network TV, with 11 others on cable. Last February's Daytona 500 on Fox drew a 9.8 national rating, which calculates to 29.4 million viewers. According to figures released by the Nielsen Media Research, the Busch series is the second most viewed motor sports series in the country. •• NASCAR IN CAR is a subscription TV package that offers fans flag-to-flag in-car camera coverage for Winston Cup races. Developed by Digital Entertainment, it offers viewing from seven sequential digital channels, with each channel offering the in-car perspective of a different driver. In addition to the Spears movie, NASCAR also is working with IMAX Corporation on a film based on the Winston Cup racing family. Some of the footage will be shot this weekend at California Speedway. "We hope it will expand the public's knowledge and understanding of the complex world of high-speed racing from the standpoint of the drivers, teams, tracks and sponsors," Brooks said. On April 17 Britney Spears shocked fans when she got her hair styled in a brunette chin-length do. "I just said, 'Can we please cut all my hair off, pretty please?' TeenHollywood.com reports that Britney Spears has said to be delighted over her brother's, Bryan Spears, engagement. So delighted that it is said that she pulled out all the stops to make sure Bryan and the best engagement party there ever was. Britney chartered a private jet to accommodate the travel, flying in her fmaily, close friends, and herself to the party last week to mark Bryan's engagement to girlfriend Lauren. "We arrived at 9 pm, just in time to surprise the two of them. We all brought gag gifts," says Lynne Spears. Adding, "A magician named Magic, who they had met previously, followed them to the party. He amazed everyone with his tricks. At least I think - no, I hope - they were tricks! Britney said this guy was so good, it was scary!" "Britney really surprised Lauren and Bryan. They were so happy to see all of us. We left that night at 1am. It was the best party!"

There was a bit of a coding problem in the last article so here it is again. The New York Post reports why Britney went from blonde back to brunette, cutting her golden locks for a 'bob' over the weekend. Kevin Mancuso, who has been cutting Britney's hair for over three years now explains, "We'd been talking about making a big change, both in cut and color." "We decided the whole idea would be to give it a jagged edge, both hard and beautiful at the same time." The new hair includes the color: golden, reddish, and dark blonde highlights and Kevin reportly said it tooks "hours" to apply the color thoroughly. Colorist Steven Amendola for Manhattan's Peter Coppola salon helped Kevin apply the color. And you might ask who, why or how was this new hair style inspired from? Well Kevin explains it on Britney's new songs. "She's working on some great stuff," says Kevin. Lauren Solomon, a New York image consultant, says Britney's new hair style is a way for her to get back in the spotlight. "We have not heard much about her recently and she had to do something to get her back in the spotlight. A new, dark sultry look instead of the blond flighty look is going to get a whole new message in the media." Britney's new publicist, Nathalie Moar, repeats that the new hair was not a thought-out ruse. Acknowledging, "She's young. She can do whatever she wants." Adding, "Even though she's never changed her color, Britney always changes. Next week it could be something different."

So have Gwyneth Paltrow and Mandy Moore. What's behind Britney Spears' decision to go brunette - and trade in her flowing goldilocks for a perky chocolate bob over the weekend? "We'd been talking about making a big change, both in cut and color," says hairstylist Kevin Mancuso, who has been cutting Spears' hair for three years. Britney, Back to Her Roots

Skynews reports that Britney has gone back to her roots. Her own roots, going back to her original natural brown hair instead of the dyed blonde look. She also lost her golden locks for a bob as she walked out from a New York hair salon. As fans all know, Britney has had brown hair for most of her life, only dying it blonde in 2000. But, one thing Britney has admitted, she loves to shop, and it was no exception. Britney was also spotted shopping at several Manhattan boutiques. "Britney's as gorgeous as always. "She's obviously trying to play down the blonde bombshell look," said one onlooker.

Britney's Production Company to Executive Produce ABC TV Movies

MTV.com has reported that Britney's production company will be executive producing made for TV movies on ABC. There is also a possibility that Britney may cameo in some of these movies, most of which are said to be romantic-comedies. Two New Britney Track Titles for the New LP

Two news songs were sumbitted to EMI both co-written by Britney. The titles are: Hollow Showdown They also credit Cathy Dennis, who we already confirmed as a producer Britney was working with. Cathy is best known for her work with Kylie Minogue(Can't Get You Out Of My Head). A new person has entered the picture however, a producer who goes by the name of Bloodshy, he is best known for his work with Christina Milian and her songs "AM To PM" and "When You Look At Me". For a little more info on Bloodshy click here. And for info on Cathy Dennis and her work click here. Please remember that just because these songs have been submitted to EMI, that doesnºt mean they will necessarily make the cut on Britney's new album. Often artists record more tracks than they need so they can select the best tracks and put those on the album, a process which Britney did on her last album Britney. From BritneySpears.com: JamieLynn's birthday was April 4th. We celebrated a week ahead of time in Dallas, Texas while we attended the Samsung/RadioShack 500 NASCAR race. JamieLynn invited four of her friends to stay with us at Hotel Za Za. It is such a beautiful hotel. Samsung treated us to a birthday party for JamieLynn and the hotel provided many special amenities. Britney flew in from Los Angeles and was so excited she got to ride in the pace car and stand on stage during the driver introductions. We watched the races in one of the skybox suites. The night before the race, Britney and some of the other adults went to a club to hear Kristy Lee sing. I'm sure you will be seeing her soon. She is a country music artist whom Britney has signed her to her production company. JamieLynn has started softball. With the practices and the scheduled games, she is really staying busy. She is also still going to gymnastics after school one day a week. Britney finally got to enjoy her beautiful condominium in Florida. She, Laura Lynne and some of their friends went for a few days to relax and sun bathe. I plan on taking JamieLynn and her friends to the condo if we can find a free moment. Spring is here and we all can’t wait to be outside in the warm weather. I feel like we are on the road constantly. Britney, JamieLynn, Crystal and I were all in Santa Monica last weekend attending the Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards. There was so much to do in so little time. JamieLynn had three meetings on Friday and on Saturday she was a "Kid Reporter" for the E! channel, helping to interview some of the celebrities walking down the Orange Carpet before the show. She was so comfortable talking with everyone as they arrived. She was even able to interview Britney! We had such a great time. There were so many people and so many celebrities. I'm happy for the P.O.W.'s that were found in Iraq and are on their way home. Our thoughts and prayers are with our brave troops and their families. We hope and pray the war will be over soon.

Britney Stalking Claim Dismissed

AP reported that Britney Spears' request for a restraining order against a Japanese fan will be dismissed as part of an out-of-court agreement between both parties, court officials said Wednesday. Masahiko Shizawa's attorney had said Spears' misunderstood his client's interest in her. "He's not a stalker," Simon R. Hiller said during a February hearing. "He's an avid fan." In asking for a court order keeping Shizawa at least 1,000 yards from her, the 21-year-old pop star said he had sent hundreds of love letters and photographs and tracked her to her homes in Louisiana and California. She said one photo bore the words, "I'm chasing you." Hiller said Shizawa, a 41-year-old computer programmer and inventor, returned to Japan when his visa expired but wanted to resolve the issue so he could eventually return to the United States. Talk about being on the spot, The Sun is reporting that Jamie Lynn, Britney's younger sister, had the pleasure of interviewing Justin Timberlake at the Red Carpet before the 2003 Kids Choice Awards in Santa Monica, California. Jamie Lynn was reporting the red carpet show for channel E!. Luckily for Justin, Jamie Lynn steered away from any personal questions about Britney and him and there break up. Whoever thought award shows were all fun? I'm sure Justin was a little antsy when he saw Jamie with a microphone. Anyway The Sun also has a picture of Britney and Brad Pitt. Picture is by MISSION.

Saddam's Palace Plastered With Britney Posters

The Daily Telegraph reports with the collapse of Saddam's regime, many US troops entered the many houses of Saddam's family, his sons, and trusted officials.  Faced with little or no resistance, US troops wondered through the halls and rooms of Saddam's lavish Palaces, which was known only to a few privileged, discovering the lifestyle Saddam lived under. "US troops trudged over the marble floors of palaces, marveling at the mahogany doors, ornate stone pillars, gold bathroom fittings and arched hallways." In one particular Palace room, US troops discovered pictures of Britney Spears clipped from magazines hung on the walls. So looks like someone in Saddam's family or his trusted officials likes Britney.

Nyla Bites Britney Again

E! Online reported that Spears' nagging problems stem from her ill-fated eatery Nyla, which has left a bad taste in the mouths of everyone involved. The now shuttered restaurant, plagued by dismal reviews and disappointed diners, has stiffed creditors to the tune of more than $350,000 in unpaid bills. According to an April 2 bankruptcy court filing, the New York restaurant owes money to more than a dozen creditors, ranging from Verizon ($1,176.70) to a General Motors subsidiary that built the swank eatery's signature staircase ($101,000). Morris Moinian, the managing partner in Pinky Enterprises (which ran the restaurant), has filed a schedule of Nyla's creditors in New York's bankruptcy court in connection with the restaurant's ongoing bankruptcy claims. Last October, three food suppliers filed an involuntary bankruptcy petition against Nyla, claiming the restaurant owed them $25,000-plus in unpaid bills for seafood and dairy delicacies and equipment supplies. The original three creditors aren't included on the current list and are still trying to collect on their tab. Instead, the court documents, published by the Smoking Gun Website, list 14 current creditors and their unpaid bills, including rent to Nyla's former landlord ($72,000), a Con Edison electric bill ($50,406.68) and New York State sales tax ($4,576.85). Today, Spears' camp released a statement distancing the singer from the unsuccessful investment, saying: "All expenses and debts were incurred by the operator and not Miss Spears who pulled out of the venture some time ago. She is not responsible for any of the expenses or debts." According to a spokesperson, "Any claims filed by the creditor against Miss Spears personally were subsequently voluntarily dismissed by these creditors." The pop singer's rep has claimed since last November that Spears had severed all ties to the failing restaurant, releasing a kiss-off statement at the time that said: "Spears believes that she has been let no alternative other than to terminate her relationship with Nyla as a result of management's failure to keep her fully apprised of information relating to the restaurant and its operations." Meanwhile, creditors were warned not to drag the entertainer into the money battle, as "any suggestion that Spears has any personal responsibility…is completely untrue and without merit," continued the statement. However, according the State Liquor Authority, Spears is one of four partners listed on Nyla's licensing records. Then again, the 22-year-old could claim she wasn't yet a woman when the restaurant's liquor license was obtained, since the SLA records show that Spears' stake in Nyla was held in trust by her business manager Bert Padell--Britney was just 20 when Pinky Enterprises was incorporated. thanks marisa

General Mills' Cereal Offers Free Britney CD

Business Wire reports that General Mills' Cereal has teamed up with Nickelodeon to present the 2003 Kids' Choice Awards on April 12, 2003, the only award show where kids have the freedom to pick the best in music, sports, books, and more. To celebrate this event, General Mills' Cereal has teamed up with Nickelodeon and Jive Records to present four free music CDs from past and present Kids' Choice nominees, which include: The Backstreet Boys, Aaron Carter, Nick Carter, *NSYNC and Britney Spears. These CDs will be in six popular General Mills Cereal brands. Another CD will be in a limited edition Green Slime cereal, and a fifth music CD on participating Old El Paso and Hamburger Helper products. To add to that, there will be a free mail-in offer for the fifth music CD on specially marked packages of Pillsbury Toaster Strudel pastries. "We're happy to give kids a way to extend the experience of the Kids' Choice Awards beyond the broadcast," said Cheryl Welch, promotion director at General Mills. Britney Dines with the Rich and Famous

MTV UK reports Britney, 21, was spotted by fans and onlookers eating dinner with business tycoon Phil Maloof, 36. Phil, a former New Mexico senator, is part-owner of the Sacramento Kings basketball team and has a share of a $200 million Las Vegas casino. Reports are scares and some news is conflicting, but The Daily Telegraph and TeenHollywood.com report Britney and Phil dinned a candlelit dinner at the Las Vegas restaurant, N9NE. An onlooker at the restaurant reports, "She was staring straight into his eyes for most of the night and laughing at all his jokes. And he couldn't keep his eyes off her. He's a well known ladies man and a charmer with a wonderful sense of humor." Britney and Phil then adjourned to a club in nearby Mandalay Bay where they danced most of the night. Justin Addicted to Britney

Jason Gelman from LAUNCH.com reports Justin Timberlake, in a candid interview in the latest edition of Marie Claire Magazine, acknowledged that he was "addicted" to Britney Spears when they broke up last year. "I was addicted to Britney. But that's love for you. No one knows what went on between us except us. What I will say is I was never unfaithful," reports Justin. In hindsight, Justin added that Britney and he have settled whatever differences they once had. "We're friends now," Timberlake said. "We're not mad at each other. I had a lot of angst. I was caught up in the fact that I was breaking up with someone I had been with for four years."

It has been circulating around on the net that Britney's album has been listed at FYE as having the release date of 9/16/2003. Nothing of course is confirmed yet so I wouldn't mark your calendars just yet, but we'll be sure to keep you updated.

Britney's Japanese Go Go Tea commercials

In Japan Britney has new ads showing on TV promoting a Japanese tea line called Go Go Tea! The commercials feature Britney dancing to 50-60's music dressed up like a futuristic go go girl and doing famous and silly 60's dance moves to songs like The Kink's-"You Really Got Me". You can check out the site, it's in Japanese, Go Go Tea Site. Britney looks great and these commercials are fun and sexy at the same time. Enjoy.

Britney Humiliates Fred

KISS 108 reported that Britney Spears has left Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst red-faced - by dissing her former fling. The pair had been dating but fell out and Fred is rumoured to have written a bitter song about Britney entitled "Drop Dead." He also enraged Britney by speaking out about their relationship on Limp Bizkit's website. The pair met in Hugo's restaurant in Hollywood and according to onlookers it was an excruciating moment for Fred. An onlooker says, "It was a true Hollywood moment. Britney was drinking tea when she spotted Fred walk in. She was uncomfortable and at first it showed." When Fred waved Britney refused to react. The source says, "She put her head down and concentrated on her food. " Fred persisted and went over to Britney's table - at which point Britney got up and went to the toilet. The onlooker adds, " Britney had the last laugh. She humiliated Fred in public." thanks katie
