JC Chasez To The Rescue

Posted by A51JM at 3:43 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Former NSync star JC Chasez has leapt to the defense of Britney Spears by insisting fans do not care about her singing.

In an attempt to help the embattled pop princess, Chasez said it was unrealistic to expect her to sing live at concerts.

Spears sparked a backlash after miming during a performance at London's Wembley Arena, where Chasez was supporting act.

But Chasez told the Daily Star: 'People point the finger and say she's miming, but she's still entertaining the crap out of you.

'People go to a Stevie Wonder show to listen and really dig what he's doing vibe-wise.

'When you go to Britney show you'll see a spectacle.'

He said fans were given a similar experience when they went to a Michael Jackson concert.

Chasez added: 'Every performer has their own way of going about things. I don't mime but I have a different type of show.'

Britney Bowls A Night Out

Posted by A51JM at 3:06 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Pop diva, Britney Spears is having her share of fun before her performance in Scotland. She was recently spotted at a bowling alley in Lanarkshire, during a night out with the crew of her hotel Oynx tour.

The singer and her troupe reserved all 28 lanes at the Hollywood Bowl, so as to avoid any security hassles. And at around 8.30pm, three coachloads of her friends and colleagues arrived at the venue for an evening of fun and games and gorged on pizzas, according to reports published in Hello.

"I'm really looking forward to performing for my Scottish fans," Britney was quoted as saying.

"I'm thrilled to finally get the chance to meet my fans and sample some traditional Scottish hospitality. I've been told to try the haggis or go shopping for a kilt," she further added.

Britney's New Man?

Posted by A51JM at 6:10 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous As everyone has seen already, the pictures of Britney on a beach with a man goofing off and chilling. Well we now know who that man is. His name is Kevin Federline, one of Britney's dancers. The two went to Santa Monica beach on Friday as news helicopters and photographers hovered. As seen by the pictures, they were bombarded with news crew. Star Magazine reports the two met back in 2000 when he was the opening act for the 2000 tour. So here is the question...is Britney in love, or just the two of them goofing off? A spokeswoman for Britney would not comment because she was unaware of the pictures and was suprised. "We haven't been able to talk to her about it since she's on tour in London," Leslie Sloane said. However, is Britney heart broken before anything longterm has started? Star Magazine reports that Kevin Federline has a two year old child with girlfriend Moesha Shar Jackson.

Britney Kicks Off Euro-tour With A Bang

Posted by A51JM at 3:09 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Britney Spears has kicked off her European Tour with a jaw-dropping show in London. The 22-year-old singer was greeted by a deafening roar from the 12,000-strong crowd when she took to the stage at Wembley Arena on Monday.

The chanteuse looked stunning in a skin-tight black catsuit that showed off her curves to full advantage. Her fans were treated to a spectacular display of pyrotechnics, before the Louisiana-born star launched into her hit single Toxic.

Britney is giving eight concerts in the UK, before she moves on to mainland Europe, where she will perform in Copenhagen, Berlin, Paris and Milan. And the Hotel Onyx Tour looks set to be a rip-roaring success, as the singer is expected to rake in $10 million in merchandising sales alone. According to Dell Furano, who is in charge of the T-shirts, posters and other souvenirs on sale at the concerts, Britney fans can't get enough of the mementoes.

"Many times what happens is, as your audience ages, you still can sell tickets and albums, but your merchandise sales will start to decline," he explained. "With Britney, as she's gone to an older audience, her audience is still as passionate about her. It's late teens and young twenty-somethings that are going to the show and are buying the merchandise for themselves because they just think Britney's cool."

Britney A Hit With Older Crowd

Posted by A51JM at 3:06 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous I hope this answers some of the questions to all the rumors of Britney fading.

Reuters report: As Britney Spears begins her European tour today in London, the pop singer can count on selling more than $10 million worth of concert souvenirs like baby-doll shirts and posters during the five-week trek.

About half of that sum will end up in her pocket, says Dell Furano, CEO of Signatures Network Inc., a merchandising and licensing firm that handles Spears products.

In the 25 North American dates of her Onyx Hotel tour, Spears’ merchandise sales averaged $150,000-$170,000 a night, reaching a high of $180,000 during the Los Angeles show on March 8, according to Furano.

Her career merchandise sales passed the $30-million mark during the North American trek.

“Many times what happens is, as your audience ages, you still can sell tickets and albums, but your merchandise sales will start to decline,” Furano said.

“With Britney, as she’s gone to an older audience, her audience is still as passionate about her. Ultimately, merchandise is a reflection of the passion they feel for the artist and the show.”

Spears’ demo when she started touring in 1999, and the average demo for pop artists, is ages 8-14. Furano said this demo usually has the highest per-head purchase power because most often it’s the parents who take their kids to shows and stand in line to buy merchandise.

Spears’ average audience for the current tour is 16-24 and leaning toward the female side, Furano said. She also has a strong gay fan base.

“Now there aren’t parents going to the shows, unless they’re just a fan,” Furano said. “It’s late teens and young twenty-somethings that are going to the show and are buying the merchandise for themselves because they just think Britney’s cool. This is about a cool factor.”

Spears’ best-selling products include the pink “Toxic” baby-doll shirt, the Onyx Hotel fashion jersey and tour programmes and posters.

Merchandising also is becoming many music stars’ answer to lacklustre record sales.

“The world of the record royalties and significant earnings from records is down dramatically,” Furano said. “That reflects three things: Artists need to tour to promote record sales; revenue from ticket sales are very significant to the income stream now that record sales are down; and merchandise. Britney Spears is going to gross over $10 million (for this tour), (and) half of that she’ll end up putting in her pocket.”

Signatures Network also handles the merchandise for Madonna, who Furano said “breaks sales records every night” while touring.

The main reason why Spears’ sales figures over the past five years are higher than Madonna’s is because Madonna has toured only once in that period versus Spears’ four outings.

Jada Backs Britney

Posted by A51JM at 2:59 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous BBC report: First it was too raunchy and now there are accusations of miming - Britney Spears' Onyx Hotel tour has been coming under fire after its first night in the UK.

But Jada Pinkett Smith, wife of Hollywood star Will Smith, has been showing her support for the pop princess off-stage as well as on.

Jada is opening for Britney in the UK with her band Wicked Wisdom. She's the lead singer of the RnB/rock/soul outfit and received a warm welcome last night as hubby Will watched in the wings.

But as for Britney's show, Jada said she didn't know anything about the miming:

"No I haven't heard anything about that. She gives you an hour and a half of full-on entertainment. That's a difficult thing to do. It really is very difficult."

Jada also reckons we should all stop worrying about whether the whole Onyx Hotel experience is too raunchy.

"It goes along with the freedom of expression. She has the absolute right to do whatever show she pleases."

"Parents take their kids to see it. Britney's made it very clear what she's about."

"We as consumers have a choice. We have a choice of whether we'll see it or not. That's not on Britney at all."

Britney's Shocking Near-Miss With A Shark

Posted by Kaos at 1:23 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Contact Music reports Pop babe BRITNEY SPEARS had a shocking near-miss with a shark at the weekend (24/25APR04) - when she found herself swimming with a man-eating fish on California's Malibu Beach.

The TOXIC star was cooling off in the Pacific Ocean on a boogie board when she spotted the shark, and had to scramble to get back to the safety of the beach.

A source tells British newspaper THE DAILY STAR, "Britney was relaxing in the water and just paddling around. Suddenly, she spotted the shark and realised what danger she was in.

"She shouted, 'Oh my God! Shark! Shark! I see a shark out there, someone help me!' But then she soon recovered her cool."

As Britney recovered from the ordeal - while lifeguards warned other bathers to stay out of the sea - she was heard to say, "That was really scary. I was almost fish food."

Britney Buys Casio Synthesizer

Posted by LordBiO at 3:20 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous WebIndia123 reported Britney was spotted buying a Casio synthesizer at a Los Angeles music store, according to The Sun.

The shopping trip, however, was almost a fruitless one when Britney realised she wasn't carrying enough moolah and had to send a chum to a cash point around the corner.

The friend then came to the star's rescue again when the instrument didn't fit in the boot of her sports car. So the friend had to share the passenger's seat with the synth.

Britney's Heart Broken Again

Posted by A51JM at 3:14 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous A disullusioned and distraught Britney Spears departed Los Angeles today bound for London for the European leg of her world tour. Britney was shattered by the english tabloid story that broke today about her current boyfriend who after apparently claiming to be single and available turns out to have a wife and babies stashed at home. Britney who hid out in her bungalow in the grounds of L.A.'s swanky Beverly Hills Hotel all day was heard slamming doors and shouting and screaming at someone on the phone and at some hotel staff. Britney who seemed to be alone until late in the afternoon when she was joined by her asistant was brought two packets of Marlboro light cigarettes at different intervals by hotel room service and has been seen chain smoking on her recent excursions out and about L.A. But the most notable sign of her condition was when Britney on the way to the international airport and on thinking she had given the media the slip jumped out of her SUV at a gas station sobbing and ran inside to buy some cheetohs cheese sticks and orange soda. But after spotting the media outside she quickly ducked out of view to wipe her teary eyes smearing her makeup before making a dash back to the car and speeding off to the airport. She stayed in the back of the car whilst her bags were unpacked and the police tried to clear the media horde and then a very spotty complexioned Britney Spears make her way onto her flight.

Britney Merchandise Sales Beat All Records

Miscellaneous A press release from Signatures Network, Inc. (SNI) announced today that Britney Spears concert merchandise sales of approximately $140,000 in Detroit on Monday night, April 14, 2004, pushed her total concert merchandise sales over $30 million, the highest for a solo female artist in the last five years.

"The level of fan intensity for purchasing Britney concert merchandise is truly staggering," said Dell Furano, SNI's CEO. "Her concerts are clearly major events for her fans who consistently want to bring part of the experience home with them."

Britney's sales on the "Onyx Hotel" Tour reached a high of $180,000 on March 8 in Los Angeles, $166,000 on April 13 in Chicago, $162,000 on April 10 in New York City, and $151,000 on March 9 in Oakland.

Spears has completed three major tours since June 1999, including the "Baby ... One More Time" tour in 1999; the "Oops ... I Did It Again" tour (2001) and 2002's "Dream Within a Dream" tour for the album Britney. Her latest, the "Onyx Hotel" tour, which began on March 2, is in support of her latest release, In the Zone.

The worldwide "Onyx Hotel" Tour will continue worldwide throughout the year. A European tour begins at the end of April and will include 28 shows including dates in London, Copenhagen, Berlin, Milan, Paris and Dublin. Dates in Asia are expected to be announced shortly. Britney will also begin the second leg of her U.S. tour in late June.

Britney's best selling products include the pink Toxic Baby Doll shirt, the Onyx Hotel fashion jersey, and Onyx Hotel programs and posters.

Rick Fish, Senior Vice President, SNI, predicts that Britney's Onyx Hotel tour merchandise will gross more than $10 million in sales worldwide. "In addition to her US tour, Britney's European tour is doing sell-out box office business," he says, "and we've already seen strong demand from her online merchandise concert shop at www.britneyspears.com."

Brave New Girl Not Getting Good Reviews

Posted by Kaos at 8:25 PM | Discuss

TV Houston Chronicle reports Brave New Girl is either payback or an investment. There's no way any self-respecting network, even one as low in the pecking order as ABC Family Channel, would commission such a trite film without ulterior motives. Brave New Girl merited special treatment because it is based on a book supposedly written by Britney Spears and her mother, Lynne.

Other candidates for the Nobel in literature can rest easy. But Britney, a published author? The mind reels.

Little Golden Books have more complex plots than Brave New Girl. A small-town teen with a big voice aspires to be an entertainer. Her lifelong dream is to hone her talents at a prestigious musical school. She's finally accepted under fairy-tale circumstances, only to be shunned by snooty students as well as professors appalled at her lack of formal music training. In the end, she shows them all.

Holly Lovell, a fresh-faced blond teen who seems to have been crafted to look like a Britney in training, dreams big, but her only credit is Dairy Princess in her hometown. Her mother, Wanda, a single parent, is living vicariously through her daughter. Wanda had unrealized show-business dreams of her own -- she yearned to be a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. Alas, the best she can offer Holly is moral support. A call from a telemarketer is a relief; usually she only hears from collection agencies. The bank is looking to take back their house, too.

Fortunately, Holly has an option. Her boyfriend just came into his uncle's trailer and wants her to move in with him. If she wants to get married, he says, that would be OK, too. This breathtaking proposal comes simultaneously with the improbable scholarship to the elite musical academy, where Wanda and Holly are mocked as the Beverly Hillbillies.

Lindsey Haun, whose credits are limited to some Grade B-minus TV movies, has the biggest role as Holly but Virginia Madsen has the biggest name -- the only name, actually -- in the cast as Wanda. Haun's slim résumé isn't going to be enhanced by her nondescript performance, and Madsen, who connects the dots without expending much energy, isn't going to reignite a career in retroburn.

Predicting where each plot thread is headed and how it will be resolved is easier than acing the TV Guide crossword puzzle. It's about as satisfying, too.

There's undoubtedly something in this for ABC; keep this in mind if and when a Britney musical special shows up. There's nothing for any discerning viewer.

Britney Dances With Pussycat Dolls

Posted by A51JM at 4:15 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Cops, handcuffs and paparazzi. Another Michael Jackson scuffle? No, just an elaborately planned stunt, masterminded by Britney Spears to celebrate the birthday of her older brother Bryan, 27 on April 19. Taking time out from her world tour, the pop princess hired actors to pose as FBI agents and arrest Bryan while she and her sibling were near her Santa Monica home. With fake celebrity photographers in tow, the "agents" took a handcuffed Bryan to the local club Space, where 50 or so friends shouted, "surprise!" As go-go dancers entertained and guests snacked on crab cakes, Bryan was surprised yet again when Carmen Electra and her racy Pussyycat dolls took the stage at 9 p.m. for a 20-minute set. Bryan "loved it-he was in shock," says a partygoer. Then Spears came on to sing "Happy Birthday" a capella clas in the Pussycat Dolls costume of bra, panties, corset, and fishnet stockings. She seemed very comfortable. "She looked in the mirror and said, 'Oh my God, I love this!" says Robin Antin, creator of the group. "She felt sexy right away-she was getting into it". Spears, 22, reveled in her costume until 11 p.m. before changing into jeans and dancing to the beat of the music (old school hip hop) played by deejay Pesce until 2 a.m.

Britney Wears Barons Cap In Everytime Video

Posted by A51JM at 4:07 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Look out world, the Birmingham Barons are headed for the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. Champagne wishes and caviar dreams could now become a reality. Ok, so that might be getting carried away.

On April 12th, Britney Spears released her new video for her song Everytime as it premiered on MTV’s TRL and, much to the surprise of the Barons front office, Spears was wearing a Birmingham Barons baseball cap in the video. Efforts to contact Ms. Spears’ representatives have been unsuccessful so the reason for her sporting the Barons black and white, classic “B” logo hat has yet to be determined.

“The Barons have a long and rich history and the team has become fairly well known around the country”, said Barons President and General Manager Tony Ensor, “but we had no idea Britney Spears was such a big Barons fan”.

Spears' Abnormal Life

Posted by A51JM at 3:48 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous TeenMusic report: Pop star Britney Spears has given up any hope of living a normal life - unless she's walking around New York's Central Park in disguise.

The Toxic singer's huge level of fame makes it impossible to go anywhere in the world without getting hassled by fans, and she has to employ drastic measures to retain some privacy when she's in public.

She laments, "If I put a hat on I can wander Central Park. I go to clubs to hear what people are listening to. I never get hassled because I have my own little area with a velvet rope and a very big man."

Spears Handpicks A Brave New Britney

Posted by A51JM at 3:47 PM | Discuss

Movie People sometimes say Britney is the new Madonna, but then who's going to be the new Britney?

Ms. Spears had a hand in deciding that for herself recently, when she helped cast "Brave New Girl," an ABC Family film adapted from the book she wrote with her mom.

The story, adapted from Lynne and Britney Spears' book "A Mother's Gift," is based on the singer's life but is fictionalized a bit so that it becomes more about the relationship between the mother and daughter than the rise of Spears' star. In the film, the Britney character, named Holly, wants to become a singer, too, and she competes in local contests and dreams of attending and making it at a performing-arts school.

"I think it's really important that she be relatable to the average American girl out there," Spears said. "The character, she has passion about dancing and singing and acting. She's trying to pursue her dreams, you know, go out and do what you want to do, so you have to see that drive in her so people can really relate to the movie."

In their capacity as executive producers, Spears and her mother, who said they have "approval over everything," attended the casting sessions in December to get a sense of the candidates vying to fill the singer's dancing shoes. Actresses trying out for the roll of Holly had to read from a couple of scenes as well as sing, which wasn't easy to do in front of the superstar, as much as she tried to put them at ease.

"You can totally tell they're nervous when they first come in," Spears said. "But once you talk to me, you know I'm not all glitz and glam like that. I'm of course going to talk to them beforehand and try to make them feel really comfortable, support them on and laugh with them."

One of the laughs she shared with the actress who eventually was cast as Holly was over her choice of accent. Nineteen-year-old Lindsey Haun ("Village of the Damned," "Addams Family Reunion") tried to emulate Spears' slight Southern twang but didn't quite get it right the first time out — or so she thought.

"I originally thought, when I auditioned the first time for this role, that I didn't know where Holly was from," Haun said. "I knew she was kind of the Britney Spears character, and Britney's from Louisiana, right? So I based Holly's accent off of that. I went with a coach, and I was really prepared, and I was all good, but then I slipped into this really thick Texas accent, and I remember going out of the audition, 'Oh my gosh, I totally messed up. They're going to think I'm really stupid and just did any type of Southern accent.' But in the second audition, I found out in the script that Holly was from Texas, so it all turned out to be cool."

Nailing the accent wasn't the only reason Haun nailed the job. Deciding who would be the Britney-like character was a "very tough choice," Spears said. All three finalists were "so cute, so amazing," and all were able to switch quickly from reading dramatic scenes with a casting director to singing a cappella to the room of producers. But it was Haun, the granddaughter of an opera tenor and the daughter of a guitarist from Air Supply, who made Spears mouth the word "wow" after she gave the film's producers a sample of her singing voice during the casting sessions.

"That's so weird, they have to be so serious about one thing, and then [totally change gears]," Spears said. "But they did it, honey, they were amazing. They all stand out in a huge way. And [Lindsey] was hot. I was really impressed."

"Brave New Girl" airs Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC Family.

Britney Performs With Burlesque Troupe

Posted by Kaos at 10:46 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Contact Music reports Pop beauty BRITNEY SPEARS gave her older brother BRYAN a birthday to remember - by dancing with CARMEN ELECTRA and burlesque troupe the PUSSYCAT DOLLS especially for him.

The 22-year-old TOXIC singer initially started her sibling's birthday with an elaborately-planned stunt, where he was 'arrested' by fake FBI agents as he was followed by phoney celebrity photographers in Beverly Hills, California.

Once Bryan, who turned 27 on 19 April (04), arrived at the club he was dragged to, he was greeted by 50 close pals for a surprise party, which included go-go dancers.

But the big surprise came when Electra and the Dolls took to the stage for a 20-minute set, followed by a lingerie-clad Spears, who sang HAPPY BIRTHDAY a cappella.

ROBIN ANTIN, creator of the group, says of Britney, "She looked in the mirror and said, 'Oh my God, I love this!' She felt sexy right away - she was getting into it.

"She was feeding off our energy - I could tell she felt good."

Britney's Has A Dress Down Day

Posted by Kaos at 10:44 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous This Is London reports Skin-tight costumes are her pop star trademark.

But when Britney Spears is out of the spotlight, she likes to give herself a little more room to move.

On a break in Los Angeles, the 22-year-old singer wore a relaxed outfit of frayed shorts and a loose shirt.

Her hair was piled haphazardly on her head and with sunglasses and flipflops, she looked like she had slipped into something far more comfortable than her average stage costume.

'To put it bluntly, Britney looked a bit of a mess,' an onlooker said. 'She was dressed in clothes that didn't match and her shirt was only buttoned up halfway, making her look even more casual.

'She was just slouching about. To top it all off, she was smoking as well - which can't be good for her young fans to see.'

Miss Spears is due to arrive in London over the weekend to start the European leg of her latest tour.

Her choice of revealing outfits for the show has already raised eyebrows in the U.S., along with her risque dance routines. She is said to be concentrating on her career after a tumultuous time in her private life, including a 55-hour marriage to a childhood friend.

Onyx Hotel Tour Sales

Posted by A51JM at 3:36 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Britellectual from our Britney Spears Forum obtained the Boxscore figures for sixteen of the first seventeen dates of Britney’s Onyx Hotel Tour. The only addition from last weeks update are the figures for the sellout Orlando show. As you will see when you compare these figures to the Beyonce and friends tour it is clear the Britney’s tour organizers did a better job pricing the tickets for the venue size for each market with Portland and Denver being the only markets where the demand was over anticipated. The pricing strategy was to offer very expensive seats, expensive seats and less expensive seats (three pricing tiers) thus being able to sell most or all of the less attractive seats on offer.

Just as a comparison here is the boxscore from the DWaD tour stop in Orlando in 2002:

Orlando $590,200 10,474 10,474 Sellout

The Onyx Hotel Tour played to a slightly smaller house (10,189) but due to higher ticket prices had a bigger gross ($658,295) and both were sellouts.

With the new figures reported in Billboard (for Charlotte, Greensboro, Indy, Chicago and Minny) we again see the dramatic difference the Beyonce tour has in various markets. Very good sales in markets like Philly and Atlanta but very poor sales in major markets like Dallas and Minneapolis. One reason, in my opinion, is that the tour was overpriced and the venues to large for certain markets. Most of their shows only had two pricing tiers, very expensive and expensive with no less expensive third tier. Clearly, in many markets, people were not inclined to pay expensive prices for bad seats. Also cities like Philly and Atlanta have large and wealthy African-American communities while those communities are smaller in places like Indy and Minny. Again the tour planners may not have sized up the markets correctly.

Someone might be losing quite a bit of money on this tour unless Verizon ponied up a lot of extra sponsorship money.

BritneySpears.org Turns 5 Today!

Posted by LordBiO at 12:07 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Today BritneySpears.org turns 5! April 22nd, 1999 was a big day for me and for this site. It's 5 years to that day exactly and I can't believe how far we have come and that I even am still doing this. I was introduced to Britney Spears that previous August (1998) and eventually became a forum administrator at BritneySpears.net. But wanting to do more and wanting to do it better led myself and another person to come together to create BritneySpears.org (BS.org) and we launched it that April!

Since then a lot of things changed with Britney, Britney fan sites, fans, myself and the world. We have got more quality Britney fan sites then ever...back then, I could probably count the number of good fan sites on my hand. But through it all, BS.org has always been there. We have never once shut our doors or missed a news story. BS.org became such a huge part of my life and I never expected it to when I stared it. It also led me to eventually led me to launch efanguide in August of 1999.

Britney has grown up a lot, so have her fans...we have all matured together. I was still a senior in high school when the site started, now I am a college graduate, working, and have the most loving girlfriend...And for the world so much has happened since we started from 9/11, Iraq, the dot-com bubble bursting, a new president, "your fired", a wardrobe malfunction. What will we really remember from the past 5 years? or the next 5 years? No matter what we hope to be bringing you Britney updates for the next however many years Britney is still a part of our lives.

Thank you for making us your home for Britney Spears on the internet, this site and community would not been possible without the hard work of so many people including Dan, Amar, Ricky, and Brett. Also so many other people who have helped along the way including the fans. Thank you for making BS.org what it is today.

Birthday celebrations will follow, but not till May. Till then, you can stop by our forums to wish us Happy Birthday!

Will Britney Have A Mariah Breakdown?

Posted by Kaos at 10:32 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Star Magazine reports Britney Spears' bizarre behavior only seems to escalate. With the added stress of her The Onyx Hotel tour, some worry the 22-year-old is headed for an emotional breakdown -- just like the one Mariah Carey, then 31, notoriously suffered in a NYC hotel in July 2001.

Just last month, Britney broke down during a pre-interview for a national TV segment, says a source. "You could tell she was afraid of saying the wrong thing," says the source. "Britney didn't seem in control. She was being pushed around by the people with her. Then all of a sudden, she burst into tears."

Now touring, "Britney is canceling dates in cities where she's not sold out, I think because she's too embarrassed to perform in half-empty venues," says another source. "She wasn't prepared to start this tour, emotionally and physically. I'm afraid for her. Justin Timberlake told me he's worried about her, too." Britney's rep declined to comment on her mental state, but more may come: A source says Britney is thinking about posing nude for Playboy! Though the magazine didn't return calls for comment, the source says,"It's in the works. Britney wants to shed her good-girl image completely."

Oceanlab Remixes Everytime For Britney

Posted by Kaos at 6:43 PM | Discuss

Music BBC UK reports Oceanlab, whose track 'Satellite' is out this week, have been in the studio remixing Britney Spears' next single.

The dance outfit are Jono, Paavo, Tony and vocalist Justine and they also do remixes as Above and Beyond.

They've remixed Madonna and now they've just done one for Britney, which they say is an emotional song about Justin Timberlake.

They're in the studio today deciding what the follow up to 'Satellite' will be. Jono says they've got a choice of three:

"The one that's my favourite is about Justine and her current beau. It's a kind of happy sad song, which is where we've been operating as Oceanlab, that sort of happy/sad border."

"The 'Satellite' track is actually about Paavo's stuff, when she was away in Japan, that sort of long distance love thing."

"We're trying to write from personal experience and I think that's quite important."

Britney Slammed By Top Suicide Counsellor

Posted by Kaos at 6:41 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Contact Music reports A leading California suicide prevention counsellor has condemned BRITNEY SPEARS for appearing to commit suicide in her misleading new video.

Britney insists the promo is all about reincarnation, not suicide, but DON AUSTEN fears her young fans won't see it that way.

In the video, Britney is seen stepping into a bath after a row with her boyfriend, and then slipping under the water as her spirit watches the lifesaving efforts going on around her. In a final scene a mother gives birth in a hospital ward, suggesting Spears has been reincarnated as the baby.

But Austen, the founder of Los Angeles' THURSDAY'S CHILD, insists the eerie video is open to misinterpretation and could encourage troubled teens to take their lives.

He fumes, "Britney Spears is one of the most influential teen role models on the planet, and this video is frightening in terms of its potential repercussions.

"When kids see this video over and over, it has a desensitising effect. There are a lot of confused kids around, and Britney's not considering the copycat effect. Instead, she's selfishly using controversy to market herself."

Britney Punks Brother on PUNK'd

Posted by A51JM at 11:41 PM | Discuss

TV As everyone knows, yesterday was Britney's brother, Brian Spears 27th birthday. Well Britney made Brian's suprise birthday part in style. To celebrate, Britney planned a practical joke, with a little help from Aston Kutcher from the MTV tv show Punk'd. Men dressed as undercover FBI agents raided Brian, arrasting him and handcuffing him, while Britney at the scene pretended to be confused and worried. The undercover FBI agents then put Brian in an undercover car driving him to his birthday party.

The episode right now looks like it will air on Punk'd but don't know when. The tv show is back on MTV with a new season starting this Sunday.

Tour Draws in Sales Dollars

Posted by A51JM at 9:26 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Britney Spears may no longer be in the zone she occupied a couple of years ago as the queen of teen pop, but her concert ticket sales are still healthy. The singer is showing staying power with her Onyx Hotel Tour.

The arena tour, which opened March 2 in San Diego and wraps up its first leg Wednesday in Auburn Hills, Mich., has had several sellouts or near sellouts. But it also has had dates when ticket sales fell well short of capacity.

According to figures culled from Billboard, her average gross was $743,724 on sales of 11,594 tickets on the tour's first 11 dates. She's filling about 85% of her venues' capacity.

"There are not that many acts out there who can sell 10,000 tickets per show," Pollstar editor Gary Bongiovanni says. "Her moment in the sun isn't over yet."

Billboard's Ray Waddell says Spears is picking up momentum with her current single (Toxic has been No. 1 on Airplay Monitor's mainstream top 40 chart for four weeks). "She's transcended that teen-pop thing, and it looks like a lot of her fans are going with her."

Her 85% capacity figure is about average among other top-level acts touring in the same time span at similar-sized venues. Hot country act Toby Keith has been selling out everywhere, and rockers Metallica and Aerosmith are at about 90% and 88%, respectively. Kid Rock has been averaging 94%, while in a few early dates, the Verizon Ladies First Tour with Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Missy Elliott and Tamia is drawing about 84%.

The stadium-level success that 'N Sync and the Backstreet Boys achieved just a few years ago appears to be over, but the teen-pop market is still alive thanks to the American Idol phenomenon and acts such as Hilary Duff, who is also scoring some concert sellouts.

Waddell says the genre reinvents itself every year with a new batch of young fans who favor new acts. He says that acts such as Spears have to keep evolving or they'll disappear. But American Idol, with new acts, is establishing a successful niche.

Idol stars are proving they can fill seats; 2003 runner-up Clay Aiken and 2002 winner Kelly Clarkson have done well on their 30-city Independent Tour, which ends Friday in St. Paul. On their first 11 dates they averaged $412,213 on sales of 8,868 tickets, or about 90% capacity.

"It's a heck of a thing that you can go out and headline arenas on your very first tour," says Waddell, noting the Fox TV show's drawing power. "But you have a built-in fan base before the artist even hits the road. It seems like the way to break an act these days."

Waddell says it remains to be seen whether the Idol acts will last. He says the singers' route to stardom bypasses a lot of the normal building blocks most acts go through, but for now they are "ready-made" stars.

"A Mother's Gift" Hits Small Screens

Posted by A51JM at 2:49 PM | Discuss

Movie Brave New Girl -- a movie based on A Mother's Gift, the novel written by Britney Spears and her mother Lynne -- will air on ABC Family April 25th. The Spears women served as executive producers on the project.

Nineteen-year-old Lindsey Haun stars as Holly, a talented Texas-born singer from humble beginnings who gets the chance to attend a prestigious East Coast arts school. "Holly metamorphoses from a girl in the country who loves hip-hop and pop music to learning opera," says the film's music supervisor, Spencer Proffer, who has worked with Tina Turner and Stevie Wonder.

When she's not in front of the camera, Haun is in front of the mike as singer for Los Angeles rock band 7th Fall. She has both rock and opera in her genes, as her father played guitar with Yes and her grandfather sang Pagliacci on The Ed Sullivan Show. "I'm a hard rocker," she says, "not like Avril Lavigne. I do scream though."

The actress met Spears at her final audition for the role, along with two other contenders. "Britney was really nice," Haun says. "She was a child performer, and it was just a nice to have her there because she knew it was like. She sat next to me and put her arm around me and said, 'Ooh, you're so tiny!'"

While Spears does not appear in the movie, one of her songs does, as Haun sings "Stronger" in the shower in the opening scene. Later, the mom, played by Virginia Madsen (Candyman, The Hot Spot), sings along to the song on the radio.

"The theme of being stronger and the theme of empowerment and dream fulfillment is a thread that goes through the entire movie," says Proffer. "Our hope is that this will evolve into a series set in the music school and every week we can introduce a new song and bring in a guest performer to either be a student or a teacher, kind of like a modern day Fame."

Britney Reflects 9/11

Posted by A51JM at 1:27 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Three cheers for People magazine. In the midst of America’s continuing discussion and debate over 9/11, People brings us poignant thoughts of that terrible day from the unlikeliest of sources: Britney Spears.

Yes, Britney Spears. You read that correctly. Her piece on Sept. 11 in the April 12 edition is a must-read.

Marking its 30th anniversary, People asked some of America's biggest celebrities to tell us about the moments that defined who they are today.

When I first saw that Britney Spears was offering her thoughts on 9/11, I groaned. Surely, I thought, Spears would take a swipe or two at the Bush administration and government officials, or make some self-righteous political point. Most celebrities do.

Fortunately, People was no soapbox for the sassy singer. Instead, here’s what Ms. Spears supplied:

"One of the most significant things that's happened in the last 30 years was the tragedy of Sept. 11. I was on my way overseas on that sad day and I couldn't get back to the U.S.A. right away, and I was very worried about my brother who was in New York. During this time when the whole world was grieving, I just wanted to go home and be with my family and appreciate life even more."

It’s a simple statement, devoid of political motivation, extraneous themes or other typical celebrity silliness. Any American could have said it. And most probably agree with her.

Compare and contrast
Contrast how Britney remembers 9/11 with the lessons her celebrity colleagues have offered on that dark day:

—Madonna, a few days after 9/11: "Violence begets violence."

—Susan Sarandon: "Let us hate war in all its forms, whether the weapon used is a missile or an airplane."

—Alec Baldwin: "What happened in 2000 did as much damage to the pillars of democracy as terrorists did to the pillars of commerce."

—Dustin Hoffman: "I believe that [the Bush] administration has taken the events of Sept. 11 and has manipulated the grief of this country, and I think that's reprehensible."

—Norman Mailer: "What Americans refuse to recognize is that large parts of the world, particularly the most backward nations, see us as cultural oppressors and aesthetic oppressors. …Until America realizes the damage it is doing by insisting that that way of life, the huge profit-making way of life, is not necessarily a good fit for most countries, we are going to be in trouble. We are going to be the most hated nation on earth."

—Backstreet Boys’ Kevin Richardson on Sept. 12, 2001: "I just think we are a little bit of an arrogant nation; and maybe this is a little bit of a humbling experience."

Fortunately, People didn’t ask that surly bunch for 9/11 memories. In her simplicity, Britney was poetic.

A not-so-poetic moment
Contrast Britney again with another celebrity whom People did go to for a defining moment. Cher wrote of her ex-husband Sonny Bono, and included this bit of nastiness: "I never got used to the fact that Sonny became a Republican. He had always been such a staunch Democrat. I remember one time being at his house in Palm Springs and seeing a picture of him with Dan Quayle. I said, 'Sonny, this is ridiculous. What's going on? How could you bear to have a picture taken with Dan Quayle?' He laughed at me."

Poor Cher. I hope she doesn’t think Sonny Bono is the only one who has ever laughed at her.

We've also had a few good chuckles at the expense of Britney Spears. You know the Britney jokes — as in take my wife, please. Earlier this year she mistakenly got married in Las Vegas. Here’s how she explained the 55-hour nuptials to MTV: "I believe in the sanctity of marriage. I totally do. But, I mean, I think I was in Vegas and I just — I don't know. It took over me and I got a little — you know, things got out of hand. And, yeah, that's what happened."

For Britney’s sake, and our own sanity, let’s linger a bit over her memory of 9/11. It’s probably the most intelligent thing she’s ever said.

Chicago Bears Trainer Treats Britney

Posted by A51JM at 1:25 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous The truth? I just came home from Britney's concert in Chicago tonight, it was rescheduled from the March 19 concert because of the knee injury Britney inflicted at the Moline, Illinois concert on March 18. I just learned that none other than Chicago Bears trainer Tim Bream and Bobby Slater treated Britney at her Chicago hotel. "When Spears' manager first called Halas Hall, the team's receptionist thought the caller was cornerback Charles Tillman, a noted practical joker who has tricked her with phony phone calls in the past. Only after Spears got on the phone herself was the call forwarded to the medical staff."

Chicago Concert - A BLAST!

Posted by A51JM at 1:13 AM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Hey I just got back from the Chicago Oynx Hotel Tour concert, the one that was rescheduled. Let me say that it was incredible. However, there were a few technical difficulities, and for whoever went to the concert would know this, that was the reason why Britney did not come out earlier. The concert began at 7:30pm sharp but Britney did not come out until 9pm. People were speculating that the concert would be canceled again. Britney did perform all the songs and had reassurance by her fans that Chicago loves Britney. The fans were wild! All the people I met, whats up to you guys. Unfortunatly, I didn't get any pictures because they found my camera and told me to put it away in my car. The actually padded me down. Time for me to buy the Sony DSC-T1 Cyber-shot 5.0 megapixel digital camera. The thing is .8 inches in length and 3.6 inches in width! Melissa, if your reading this, I'm sorry we didn't meet, but I'll talk to you on the phone or online.

Britney May Make Reality Series Called "OnTourage"

Posted by LordBiO at 10:45 AM | Discuss

TV Hollywood Reporter reported that representatives for the pop princess are shopping a reality series featuring backstage footage of her life on tour, according to sources.

Being pitched with the pun-style title "OnTourage," the series would follow the lives of Spears and her fellow dancers on the upcoming European leg of the Onyx Hotel Tour, her steamy concert series. "OnTourage" is being described as a cross between MTV's "The Real World" and 1991's "Madonna: Truth or Dare." Spears would narrate and even wield a digital camera to chronicle her adventures with her dancers, bodyguards and managers from the tour bus to the stage.

The six-week shoot would produce six episodes that Spears' team would hope to have on the air as early as the summer, presumably providing a boon to the already healthy ticket revenue she is generating. No word on whether any particular network is close to a deal, but the front-running network will have to act fast: Spears' European tour kicks off in London on April 27. Another potential hitch: The budget is projected to run north of $1 million per episode, which is expensive by unscripted standards.

Reps for Spears, who would serve as an executive producer, declined comment late Monday.

Britney Says Controversial New Video Is About Reincarnation

Posted by A51JM at 11:45 PM | Discuss

TV Madonna's rubbed off on Britney in more ways than one. Spears courts a bit of controversy with her latest video, "Everytime," in which her wrist spontaneously starts bleeding.

Premiered Monday on "TRL," just one day after Easter, "Everytime" doesn't quite go the length Madonna's "Like a Prayer" did to invoke stigmata, but what first appears to be a red Kabbalah bracelet on Spears' wrist becomes a line of blood, only made apparent when she pulls her hand into a bathtub and a small red fog appears in the water.

Instead of taking her own life as described in the video's original treatment, Spears instead dies a more mysterious death, since the amount of blood she loses is small — but she slips unconscious under the water nonetheless.

Despite her death, Spears ends up in a white-lit hospital room as a new mother gives birth. The final shot shows a fully alive Spears re-emerging from the bathtub, with a smile on her face. One way or another, she lives again.

"It's more like a movie," Spears explained when she called in to "TRL" on Monday. "It's different than anything I've ever done. It's dark, and it shows me in a different light. Of course, I'm going to go back and do dance videos, but I wanted to be inspired and challenged."

Though she didn't get a chance to say it for herself during her on-air chat, Spears called "TRL" back as the video was playing and asked the show to explain for her that the video's concept was about reincarnation.

On a site note, appearently there will be two seperate music videos. One for the US and another edited for the international release.

Onxy Hotel To Offer Britney VIP Room

Posted by A51JM at 5:09 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Britney Spears may be a little overexposed on her new, worldwide Onyx Hotel Tour, but she's generating some valuable exposure for the real thing.

The 112-room Onyx Hotel opens on Portland Street in Boston in mid-May, to be operated by Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group LLC, a San Francisco company with three dozen flashy boutique properties.

Imagine the thrill that Kimpton executives felt about three months ago when they read that Britney had chosen "Onyx Hotel" for the theme of her 68-date international tour -- the very name Kimpton had come up with two years before for their second location in the Boston area.

After an initial "Oops," Britney's camp and the Kimpton group agreed it could be a marketing match made in heaven, and a website linking the two went up after MTV ran an item in January about the naming overlap.

Now the Onyx is planning to feature a VIP room that will bear the pop star's name. The Britney Spears Foundation Room will be located on a top floor and designed -- possibly by Spears' mother, Lynne -- to the pop star's tastes and reflecting her personality, according to Andrew Freeman, vice president of public relations for Kimpton.

A portion of the Britney room fee -- which hasn't been set yet -- will go to the Britney Spears Foundation, which operates a performing arts camp for children and creates playrooms for kids on extended hospital stays.

Freeman said he didn't know exactly what the room would look like, but suggested that, "Any Britney Spears fan I'm sure will go ga-ga to stay there."

The singer's representatives and hotel executives met face to face for the first time this week and details are only now being worked out. The Britney room won't be ready until late June, about six weeks after the hotel opens its doors at 155 Portland St., in the historic Bulfinch Triangle.

The architecture and interior design were done by Group One Inc. of Boston, and the project is being developed by David Leatherwood, managing member of Norwich Partners LLC. Kimpton opened the Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge last year.

Spears will be at the Tweeter Center in Mansfield on June 23, but it's undetermined whether she will spend the night at the hotel.

Her website defines the imaginary hotel of her tour as: ". . . a vibrant, whimsical place where wondrous dreams are realized, and the darkest of secrets are revealed."

A Kimpton press release described the real Onyx Hotel as having "curvy shapes and jewel tones of teal, red, lavender, and vibrant green play against a backdrop of subdued black and taupe with red accents."

Britney Packs The House

Posted by A51JM at 5:01 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Caitlin Lipyanka has seen Britney Spears in concert before, several times.

The 19-year-old from Bayonne stood in line to see her at MTV's studios in New York recently and will be at the singer's show tonight in the Meadowlands.

But when Spears gyrated onstage at 9 last night at the Sovereign Bank Arena, Lipyanka and her friends still let out shrieking screams of delight at seeing their musical heroine, clad at the beginning in a leather body suit and bustier.

"This is her best show," Lipyanka yelled, barely audible above the roaring crowd.

The Onyx Hotel Tour was here and the packed arena exploded in a cheering frenzy, drowning out the thumping beats of the opening number, "Toxic." Flames shot several feet in the air, smoke drifted across the stage and blue, then red, spotlights pulsed to the song.

Spears, flanked by the usual half a dozen dancers, appeared as she has all tour, dancing and appearing to sing, with the microphone attached to her ear.

And Robin Wojcik could not wait for it to end.

For all the mainly young female fans who dominated the attendance and emulated Spears in their apparel - skintight, low cut, and very revealing - there were a few Wojciks, parents and chaperones who looked out of place and were only there to get youngsters to the show.

Wojcik, the Peddie School's food service manager was chaperoning two students and mad Spears fans for whom she arranged tickets, courtesy of her fiance, who has a luxury box.

The classical musical fan and former ballerina was glad for her students, but she didn't even want to talk about Spears. "I figure if I can sit through Britney Spears, that buys me five Beethoven concerts."

"This is a labor of love," she said.

Preparing for the show was a fun experience, however. Female co-workers tried to give her some concert dressing tips. "They had my shirt hiked up and one said, `You have to wear a thong so when you sit down you can see it sticking out or your jeans' " Wojcik said. "It was a riot," she said with a laugh.

For Krysta Hjuber, 16, and Dara Mazzola, 14, both of Pennington, dressing like Spears was a serious matter yesterday afternoon before the concert.

It was Hjuber's first concert, and her birthday present, and the two friends braided their hair in pigtails and decked themselves like Catholic schoolgirls with plaid skirts, knee socks and men's ties to resemble Spears in her career-launching video ". . . Baby One More Time."

"I used to go to Catholic school," Mazzola confessed.

Hjuber is a Spears superfan who checks her Web site daily and has seen the behind-the-scenes documentary of the Onyx Hotel Tour on MTV four times.

"There's just something about her that keeps me interested," Hjuber said.

"I really think she's trying to get rid of her younger fans," Hjuber said, talking of the current tour that has been described as racier than ever.

One of the seven costume changes has Spears being suggestive with her dancers and romping around in a bed, clad only in lingerie.

Celeste Graziano didn't read much about the show but her husband Pete did, she said, and he knew it was going to be a lot of mature themes for their daughter Michele, 14, and son Mike, 10, the couple said before the show, munching on arena food.

"They watch MTV. What's the difference?" Pete Graziano said.

Despite canceling three recent stops, Spears' tour is still a moneymaker despite some highly critical reviews of the first leg - for the near R-rated content and charges of lip-synching.

In the afternoon, tickets still were available for yesterday's show, including single tickets on the floor and pairs off to the side.

But Gary Bongiovanni, editor of Pollstar, the concert industry magazine, said Spears has been selling out, or almost selling out 10,000-seat arenas and grossing $800,000 to $1 million a night. Sovereign Bank Arena holds 10,500.

"That's still good business and everybody's making money at that level," he said. "Nobody's crying just yet. She's a very valid headliner, maybe not as much as two years ago. But in the teen pop genre, that can be almost an eternity."

Fans like Amanda Alles and Kelsey Newborn, both 14 and from Flemington, have been listening to Spears since they were about 8, they said, and seeing Spears was all they wanted to talk about last night.

It was Amanda's birthday and it was written across the homemade Britney T-shirts they designed for the concert, hoping Spears would see it.

"We've just listened to her (for a long time) and kind of grown up with her," Newborn said.

Man Catches Britney Dinning

Posted by A51JM at 4:51 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous SURE, BRITNEY SPEARS captivated a sell-out crowd in Manchester last Tuesday night, but the night before she captivated that crowd at the Verizon Wireless Arena, her image was captured in a Verizon Camera Phone.

The phone belongs to Kevin Zych.

Kevin’s a server at Fratello’s Ristorante Italiano in the Millyard. He was working the evening shift last Monday night and all things considered, it was a typical Monday night until an extremely large limousine pulled up in front of the eatery.

Cue the diva.

Enter Britney Spears.

“Everyone was surprised there was no phone call,” said Fratello’s general manager Keith Ford. “The limo pulled up around 8:15 and she just walked in.”

She was wearing jeans and a sweatshirt and shortly after her party of six was seated in the upstairs dining room, word filtered downstairs to Shonna Jean, a 23-year-old server who happens to be a huge fan of the one-time Mouseketeer.

“People kept coming down and telling me Britney was upstairs,” Shonna said, “but I didn’t believe them. I figured they were just saying it because they knew I was a big Britney fan and they knew I was going to the show on Tuesday, but . . . ”

But she went upstairs anyway.

And there, in a table toward the northeast corner of the upstairs lounge, was the face that launched a thousand videos. She was seated in the section manned by server Jordan Langley, who, when approached by Shonna, graciously surrendered the table.

“I was really excited,” Shonna said, “but I didn’t want to bother her and we made sure everyone left them alone while they had dinner.”

For the record, Britney’s doing Atkins.

“She had the low-carb calamari and a low-carb chicken and vegetable sautee,” Shonna reported. “After they asked for the check, I asked if I could sit down for a minute. We talked for about 10 minutes and she really came off as kind of shy.”

Other staff members approached gingerly, but were warmly received.

Britney was sipping wine — a Sterling merlot, for the record — and when he saw the relaxed mood, Kevin thought he might capture the moment for posterity.

“I just went up and asked if I could get a picture,” he said, gesturing with his picture phone. “One of the guys with her entourage — I guess he was like the bouncer — he said no, but then Britney said it was OK as long as I didn’t sell it.”

Kevin’s a man of his word.

It’s not for sale but it is available for viewing, but only if you are Kevin and you have his cell phone, where he has since installed the snapshot as his screen saver. Meanwhile, Shonna’s savings account got a bit of a boost.

“The tour manager paid the bill,” she said. “He tipped me 30 percent, but he could have tipped me dirt for all I care.”

The chance to wait on Britney was just Shonna’s latest brush with fame at Fratello’s. She’s also served dinner there to NASCAR god Jeff Gordon, but, as she put it, “All I need to do now is wait on Steven Tyler. Then my life will be complete.”

Britney Slams Backstabbers

Posted by A51JM at 4:38 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Pop beauty Britney Spears is sick of being a target for criticism from those who disapprove of the way she lives her life.

The Me Against The Music singer, 22, often finds herself fending off catty comments about her lifestyle and work practices from acquaintances who think they know best. And her long-suffering mom Lynne is also dragged into discussions with random know-it-alls deriding her parenting skills.

Britney fumes, "I can't understand why everyone talks behind your back."

"With my mom, there were times when she would be like: 'Some lady called me up and was like: "What are you doing, sending your child to New York?"'.

"But it was really weird because, all of a sudden, six months later, they're sending their child away and trying to get them a career just like mine, so that was funny."

Interview With Britney's Backup Singer

Posted by A51JM at 11:41 PM | Discuss

Web RuReady115 from our Britney Spears Forum reported an interview by ET with one of Britney's backup dancer, Gromyko where he answers the question of Britney lip-singing.

ET: How Long Do You Have To Be Away From Your Families while on Tour With Britney?
GS: It's crazy but I always manage to contact them whenever I can.

ET: So do you travel with Britney & her entourage?
GS: (Laughs) No, actually the dancers and singers travel on a different bus.

ET: What is your favorite song to do on tour?
GS: Definitely The Hookup or I Got That (Boom Boom). Both are really fun songs that makes you want to get out there and dance.

ET: It has been speculated on since the beginning of Britney's career, so does britney really lipsynch on stage?
GS: If you call singing along to backup vocals lipsynching.

ET: Have you ever had a chance to hang out with Britney?
GS: Yes, we hung out a few times before the tour started and she's very down to Earth and far from being this diva that alot of people thinks she is.

The next scene Britney is caught in a crowd of people; she finnally comes inside the hotel and Britney's boyfriend sees some tabloids. VMA Cities Down To Two Cities: Memphis and Miami

Posted by Kaos at 5:55 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous The Memphis and Shelby County Music Commission says this is the day MTV will make a decision about where to hold the 2004 Music Video Awards. The list is down to two possibilities: Memphis and Miami.

Memphis offers a rich music history and the 50th anniversary of Rock n' Roll, but Miami has a history of pulling off successful big awards shows. Some Memphis musicians say Miami doesn't stand a chance compared to Memphis. Memphis is the home of Elvis, Johnny Cash and Isaac Hayes. It's a place that has a lot to teach the MTV generation about music history. But Miami representatives say are telling Memphis to move over. Already the host of the Latin Grammys and the Source Awards, CBS entertainment reporter Jade Alexander says Miami has award shows down. Alexander says, "there's all the infamous after-parties... most of them on South Beach. clubs and promoters are extremely accommodating."

Memphis has been accommodating, too, with Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton's offer to provide half a million dollars for police and emergency services. The VMA's would serve as the kick-off event for the new FedEx Forum. The Memphis and Shelby county music commission says it's convinced Memphis can handle an MTV sized crowd. DVDtalk.com Reviews In The Zone

Posted by A51JM at 3:03 PM | Discuss

TV Reviewed by Aaron Beierle

The Movie:

Watching "In the Zone" was a rather interesting experience. I've never particularly cared for the music of Britney Spears, yet have covered her DVD releases in the past for this site due to the almost extraordinary amount of people who read the first review I did of one of her titles. Watching "In the Zone" was interesting, partially because of aspects of the performance and partially for the experience of watching it at this point in the evolution of music.

While I certainly don't deny that there are still plenty of teen pop fans out there (witness the Britney impersonator on a recent episode of MTV's horrifying "I Want a Famous Face" who, with disturbing determination, got plastic surgery to look more like the pop princess.) or go too deeply against the music (anyone who enjoys making music or enjoys a certain genre of music has the right to enjoy making or listening to it), one still sees the landscape of music changing. Witness the welcome success of songwriter/singer Norah Jones, whose "Feels Like Home" recently sold one million albums in the first week of release.

Teen pop has enjoyed a reign atop radio charts in the recent past, but there's been a few heading elsewhere before the foundations of the genre start to crack - Mandy Moore has shown her acting skills and made a record that was entirely covers of classic rock and folk tunes. Jessica Simpson has become America's most famous housewife, while still maintaining an acting and music career (although her upcoming skit show on ABC with husband Nick Lachey looks like the moment that she'll "jump the shark", as they say).

Britney Spears has evolved, but I can't say that I've ever felt that she's taken risks. Her look has changed into something more mature and the music has slightly been altered for the times, but what may have seemed risky in the past now seems pre-planned for the utmost airplay. Don't get me wrong, I find it catchy, but it's similar at the core and whether it makes a lasting impression is questionable. The question of whether her young audience will follow her along for the ride seemed to be answered by the lukewarm response to "In the Zone", her latest CD. The theory presented by Spears on the documentary is that her fans still see her as early, "Sometimes"-era Spears. When a reporter asks her if she thinks her fans are happy with her change of image, the singer responds with, "I don't know, you tell me."

This concert affair/documentary was originally broadcast on ABC and, refreshingly, presents Britney in a small venue performing with her dancers. After the over-the-top "Las Vegas" show, which saw Spears valiantly trying to keep from being overshadowed by the overly busy show, I thought Spears may benefit from a greater focus on the music and performance. Mostly, I was right. Spears and her dancers put together a show that offers respectable - if not dazzling or particularly inventive - choreography and rather high energy performances of some of the singer's past hits and tunes from "In the Zone".

What ruins the pace of the show are the in-betweens - interviews and behind-the-scenes meant to show off different aspects of Britney's music and personality, as well as focus on some recent events (the Britney/Madonna kiss). These segments are geared clearly towards promoting the album and, while they achieve that goal, they break up the momentum of the concert terribly. The performance is otherwise fine, aside from a disasterous, lounge-y version of "Baby...One More Time" whose perfect ending would've been to have a reaction from "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell.

The new DVD of Spears is another one of the fine efforts for her fans that seem to throw everything that's around on the platter. Aside from the main ABC concert show, the DVD also offers the "Toxic" (which appears to be a full version, as I don't remember the shot of the two girls sitting in the window as Britney rides by on the motorcycle when I've seen the video on MTV) and "Me Against the Music" videos, as well as MTV's "Making the Video" for "Toxic" (which shows silly Britney, who always seems to fight against the image of edgy Britney). There's also an MTV performance of "Me Against the Music" and "(I Got That) Boom Boom". There's also a photo gallery and additional interview. Total running time is 95 minutes.

The DVD

VIDEO: The presentation is offered in 1.33:1 full-frame (aside from the "Me Against the Music" video, which is letterboxed). Picture quality is very good, as sharpness and detail looked quite strong - even moreso in the two videos, which appeared slightly more well-defined than when they've been broadcast on MTV. No edge enhancement or compression artifacts were spotted, and colors appeared strong and nicely saturated.

SOUND: All of the singer's prior DVD presentations have been remixed for Dolby Digital 5.1. While these repurposed sound mixes have been a little gimmicky at times, they were largely fun and exciting new ways to enjoy songs that were suited for a big, wild sound design. Unfortunately, "In the Zone" only offers the program with 2.0 audio. While reasonably enveloping when played back in Pro Logic II, I can't say that I don't miss the zippy 5.1 presentations of the former DVDs. Audio quality was generally quite good, with strong clarity and pleasing dynamic range.

EXTRAS: An exclusive 4-track CD ("The Answer", "Don't Hang Up" and remixes of "Toxic" and "Me Against the Music") is also included. I've heard a couple of remixes of Spears songs before and, once again, I think the remixes here are considerably more interesting and atmospheric than the album versions.

Final Thoughts: "In the Zone" is an interesting look at the Britney Spears phenomenon, but I think things are reaching a point with the singer's career where she needs to make a stronger change to try and pull in new listeners, show her fans something more drastically new and finally, keep up with increasing competition and changes in the world of music. "In the Zone" does disappoint somewhat with the audio, but the video quality is good. Recommended for fans.

Britney's entourage parties in Jamestown ... but without Britney

Posted by A51JM at 2:51 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Did you see Britney Spears in Jamestown Wednesday night?

Neither did anyone else.

Britneymania may have hit Conanicut Island, but the not-a-girl-not-yet-a-woman was elsewhere.

"I kept telling people she wouldn't be here," said Chuck Masso, owner of Tricia's Tropigrille on Narragansett Avenue, where most of the star's entourage hung out Wednesday night. "But they didn't want to believe me. She was in New York taping 'Letterman.'"

Just about everyone else connected with the teen idol was on hand for a private party at the restaurant the day before Spears was to perform at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence. That included stage crew, singers, band members and opening act Skye Sweetnam - about 90 people.

"We had a lot of kids outside from Jamestown and Newport and North Kingstown," Masso said. "Some people brought video cameras and waited around all night in case she showed. Some of the kids climbed on the roof and the fire escapes, trying to look inside. But most of them were fine. Some of the performers went outside and had photo ops with the kids."

Spears performed for a sellout crowd Thursday night in Providence, so tickets this week were almost as scarce as a Britney sighting in Jamestown.

But her entourage, arriving in two tour buses, apparently got the full Jamestown treatment Wednesday, heading to Beavertail for wine and cheese and then over to the Key West-flavored restaurant for oysters, little necks, chowder and other southeastern New England seafood delicacies.

"They enjoyed seeing the island and everyone really had a great time," Masso said. "They've been on the road for a while. I think it was a nice break."

Any chance for a summertime party - one more time - including Britney herself? Masso said he wouldn't rule it out. Britney will be in the region again for a show on June 23 at the Tweeter Center, an hour or so up the road in Mansfield, Mass.

"I know everyone talked about what a terrific time they had," Masso said. "The only people disappointed were the kids."

Britney Spears Counter-sues Obsessed Fan

Posted by LordBiO at 2:28 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Celebrity Justice reported that Britney has asked a judge to throw out claims made by Mashaiko Shizawa, who Britney once accused of stalking her. Apparently, Shizawa filed a federal lawsuit against Spears and two security guards, claiming to have suffered severe emotional distress after being confronted by Spears' people, alleging that one of the guards pointed a gun at him and told him to leave. As a result, Shizawa claims he now suffers from "nervousness, anxiety and chronic upset stomach."

Shizawa's lawyer, Simon Hiller, tells "CJ" his client’s symptoms are real. "I think Mr. Shizawa is the victim in the case," Hiller insists.

But Spears now says she's being made the victim of a bogus lawsuit. In a filing obtained by "CJ," the documents say: "Ms. Spears was entirely uninvolved in the alleged incident. She was not there and did not know what, if anything happened."

The court papers also question whether Shizawa really suffered any problems, saying quote: "plaintiff admits he did not receive any medical or mental health care as a result of the incident."

In the court papers, Spears’ lawyers also say if Shizawa was so upset by what happened, he would have called the police. Instead, they say that he sent Britney some stuffed animals.

Now Spears, who recently produced a hit with Madonna, is hoping her music, and not her lawyers, will do more of the talking in the future.

Britney Has Staying Power

Posted by A51JM at 12:28 AM | Discuss

Fan Experience

Miscellaneous Hey i just wanna leave u my experience i had with Britney. Ok so it goes like this awhile back when Justin and Christina were touring they made a stop in Las Vegas so of course i wanted to go because i like Christina. I sorta had a felling Britney would be there but not fully sure because that was when Justin and her broke up. But anyways i decided to take one of my Britney cds just in case. So Christina sang and there was a intermision it was in that time that Britney showded up to see Justin sing. So i was up some what on the side of the arena when i heard people saying Britney we love you so when i heard this i jumped up and ran down to the floor where i saw her. I had a little trouble getting down there but finally i did. So there i was right beside her not to many people were bugging her so i started to think it was not her then i heard her laugh. So i went over and asked for an autograph because i had my cd. Of couse she said yes and signed it to Clayton love Britney. I was so happy and i told her how much i loved her and ive been a fan for like 5 years and she sayed oh thats sweet. But the bad thing is i had no camera so i didnt take a picture but who needs a picture when u have a wonderful memory and an autograph. Dogs To Beef Up Security

Jamie Lynn Thinks Britney is Good Role Model

Miscellaneous Ted Casablancas from Eonline reports:

Acting more her 13 years of age was Britney's li'l sis, Jamie Lynn Spears, who uttered (with embarrassment) what her amigas chain-gossip about:

"Um, I mean, I guess...boys," a blushing J.L.S. giggled before quickly adding, "I don't really care about them, but my friends do." (Another fab thespian in training!)

Trust me, Jamie-babe. Just wait till next week. We'll recap--and reconsider. In the meantime, I know you're a busy bee with your acting career on All That, but who in this vast world do you mostest admire?

"My sister. She's a good role model," the southern belle robotically replied. "Some people think differently, but that's their opinion."

Always having to defend sis Brit, huh?

Britney's Bathroom Habits

Miscellaneous Ted Casablancas from Eonline reports:

She's been in Rhode Island, natch. Doin' that concert thang. Interesting that a gal who was, moments ago, marrying for mere minutes is now really rather together, no? That would be a yep. Because:

"Between her parents and her bodyguards, she's never left alone," disclosed a Britney camper (one who's on the more beautifying end of things--and trust me, darlings, those types know everything). "You know how she used to go into the bathrooms on her own?" rhetorically asked the red-hot revealer. "No more."

Maybe that's because last time the Louisiana lass headed into more chichi restrooms, she hardly found the visits restful.

Of course, B.S. has a terrible history of having to deal with gals storming better (and not) restrooms across the globe, on the maniacal hunt for hottie B. It can be a friggin' gal gridlock in there, I'm tellin' ya!

"What her bodyguards do," elaborated my Spears source, "is go in to clear out the restroom of the club or restaurant she's in--and then they stay in there. Just to see that she's okay."

Britney Inspires Look-alike

Miscellaneous WASHINGTON: Pop star Britney Spears' raunchy antics in her new video Toxic has inspired a porn film featuring a look-alike of the star.

Movie bosses on the Bachelor's Bulletin production shot the blue movie in the same aircraft set used in Britney's chart-topping promo.

In fact, they were also keen to recruit the sexy singer's doppelganger to make the Toxic connection crystal clear to viewers.

'A colleague has just finished shooting it. The set was the same aeroplane used on the Toxic video and one of the stewardesses in the film was a Britney look-alike. It's an attempt to jog the memory of where you might have seen that exact backdrop before,' rate the music quoted a source as saying.

Posted by Deepta at 6:10 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous VH1.com reports:

Britney Spears has at least one friend left from her "Mickey Mouse Club" days.

JC Chasez, who starred on the revamped TV series along with Spears, Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera, will open for Britney when the pop princess performs eight shows in the U.K. beginning April 26 at Wembley Arena in London. The stint, which includes three other Wembley shows, wraps up May 5 in Birmingham.

The 'NSYNC singer, who is promoting his solo debut, Schizophrenic, will bookmark the British trip with four West Coast dates before and a handful of Midwest and East Coast dates afterward.

She Knows What’s Appropriate For Her Age

Posted by A51JM at 3:53 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Finally a fair article on Britney. Read below.

Turns out, a Britney Spears concert is a lot like a WWESmackdown.

It’s not really appropriate for kids, but as long as you don’t take it too seriously, it’s a lot of fun.

Last night, Spears was the main event at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester. Her much-anticipated Onyx Hotel tour filled the arena with the Britney faithful, who came to watch the 22-year-old pop diva strut her stuff.

Based on the buzz, this tour is meant to define Spears — once and for all — as nobody’s teenybopper idol. The hotel setting, the scantily clad hotel employees and the many provocative costume changes, often featuring leather, undergarments — and leather undergarments — were a big hint as to where this show was going.

The crowd was fairly balanced between those under 21 and those old enough to watch the show with a bottle of Bud. Still, based on brisk sales of cotton candy and soft-serve ice cream, it’s safe to say a significant faction of the crowd was young enough to be satisfied with a sugar high.

Lois Daneau of Hooksett had heard in advance about the simulated sex scenes silhouetted in the hotel windows, which reportedly were so racy they caused some parents in other towns to walk out on the show with their younger kids in tow.

She felt pretty sure her 11-year-old, Paige, would take it all in stride.

“We’re very open anyway. She knows what’s appropriate for her age,” said Daneau. “On one hand, as a family, you teach your kids morals and ethics and hope they realize it’s entertainment,” she said. “But I also think, in a way, every girl wants to grow up to be like her — sexy, beautiful, talented, make lots of money.”

Paige said she has all of Spears’ albums.

“I like her music, and it’s fun watching her. She makes a lot of her outfits seem like they’re showing a lot, but they’re not really,” said Paige. “I think she mostly appeals to teens. But I know at least eight of my friends are here.”

Daneau said she was more concerned that the show might be canceled, based on reports that a knee injury had postponed four previous shows along the tour.

Kim Anderson, 14, of Gilford, was also psyched for the show. “I’m going to be famous someday, too,” she said.

Her mom said they’d caught a preview of the show on MTV.

“You know what? She’s 14 — she knows what’s going on out there. I really think it’s the only way Britney can compete, to be provocative,” she said.

Kristy Adams of Bristol said she and her husband, Jamie, talked a lot about whether it would be OK to bring their daughters, Kalin, 8, and Reagan, 4, before buying tickets for the show. “We don’t let them watch the videos at home, but they love her music,” said Kristy. “It’s not a lot different to me than seeing someone on the beach in a bikini.”

It was, however, the first time her daughters were ever patted down by security guards, she said.

That’s how tight security was, as guards were especially vigilant in checking fans — even the smallest ones — for cameras and other potential bootlegging equipment, a process which slowed the lines considerably moving into the Verizon.

Tawnya Lefebvre, 23, Tiffany Grant, 24 and Carol Picard, 24, all of Rochester, said they were a bit surprised at the number of young girls at the show.

“We heard a lot of rumors about how sleazy the show was going to be, so we’re kind of anxious to see,” said Picard.

Grant, who has a 2-year-old daughter, said she never considered bringing her along, even though she loves the music.

“Even if she were older, I would have no trouble saying no to her. It’s just not appropriate, at least until she’s about 13,” said Grant.

Spears opened with “Toxic,” a good dance song with a futuristic club beat that got the crowd on their feet and singing along.

Several songs later, Lois Daneau looked relieved. “So far so good,” she said. “Man, I wish I could move like her.”

Opening for Spears were Skye Sweetnam, a 15-year-old Canadian from the Avril Lavigne school of punked-out girl pop, who delivered a short but energetic set. She was followed by Kelis Rogers, a 23-year-old R&B singer, who sounds like a younger, hipper, angrier Toni Braxton. She finished with her current MTV hit, and huge crowd-pleaser, “Milkshake.”

Britney Still Has It

Posted by A51JM at 3:10 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Who says Britney fading?

An all-grown-up Britney Spears is bringing "The Onyx Hotel" tour to Albuquerque's Journal Pavilion on Aug. 5. Tickets went on sale Saturday, and as of Monday morning only lawn seats remained through Ticketmaster. They're $30 each plus service charges. They're available at ticketmaster.com or by calling 883-7800. A few reserved seats remain up for grabs at www.journalpavilion.com. They are $79.50 and $59.50. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. On her first tour in nearly two years, the 22-year-old Spears has jettisoned her teen pop image and gone for a more adult look. She appears in a see-through body stocking and performs a racy show that consists almost entirely of material from her latest release "In The Zone." According to reviews of early stops on the tour, hits like "Oops... I Did It Again" and "... Baby One More Time" are relegated to a slow tempo medley. "Of course I'm not doing... those big, massive hits anymore," Spears told an interviewer last year. "I think this record is where I'm at right now in my life. It's sensual, it's sexual." Eight-year-old girls who loved old school Britney will be disappointed. Their dads and older brothers won't be.

Britney Following Jackson's Footstep?

Posted by A51JM at 3:07 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Britney Spears has followed in Janet Jackson's footsteps, by accidentally exposing herself to music industry executives during a private show.

The Toxic singer, 22, was giving an exclusive performance to some radio bosses after one of her concerts in Miami, Florida - when her breasts fell out of her skimpy top.

An insider jokes, "It was a wardrobe malfunction. But unlike Janet Jackson's, no one was saying it was intentional.

"The flashbulbs really went off."

Jackson caused controversy at February's Super Bowl when her duet partner Justin Timberlake exposed her breast in front of a TV audience of 100 million.

Britney Tour Bus Driver Chased, Stopped By Police

Posted by LordBiO at 4:40 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous TheWMURChannel reported that a bus driver transporting crew and equipment for Britney Spears' concert tour led police on a brief pursuit Monday and later failed to appear in court on charges of speeding and disobeying police, authorities said.

State police said a trooper attempted to stop the bus in Northfield around 7 a.m. as it traveled south on Interstate 93. They said the bus was going 78 mph in a 65 mph zone. Spears was not on the bus.

State Police Sgt. B.P. Mathews said driver David Raines indicated as though he would pull over at one point but continued driving about 10 miles to Canterbury, where he was stopped after pulling off the highway.

Mathews said Raines, 51, of Tennessee, was arrested but was allowed to continue on to deliver the crew and equipment to Manchester, where Spears is to perform Tuesday night.

Raines was to appear in Concord District Court later in the day for an arraignment, but Mathews said he didn't show up. Mathews said the driver could lose his driving privileges in New Hampshire, as well as Tennessee.

Mathews said the crew on the bus was asleep at the time and not aware of the stop.

Parents And Children Walk Out of Britney Show in Toronto

Posted by LordBiO at 10:38 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Canada.com reported that Britney Spears bought her raunchy show to Toronto on Saturday for the first Canadian date of her tour, complete with scenes of simulated sex that sent some parents and their young children home early while a mostly female audience of teens and 20-somethings hooted and hollered for more.

"Disgusting," was the one-word review from nine-year-old Carly Woodcox. "I think she should never do that again," said the Peterborough, Ont., resident, reacting to the American superstar's performance during Touch of My Hand.

Emerging from under a white robe in the later part of the show to reveal a near-transparent sequin-covered bodysuit, Spears thrashed about in a bathtub while dancers simulated sex acts in various rooms of the hotel-themed backdrop.

Silhouettes of couples and threesomes could be seen as a fit young male dancer rubbed a red silk pillow about his nether-regions in the foreground.

The soft-core inspired choreography continued into the next song, Breathe on Me, in which the 22-year-old singer rolled about on a bed in her bra and panties under the watchful gaze of the same male dancer. The two ended up in a full, open mouthed kiss displayed on three giant video screens.

"That would be something for adult viewing only," said Woodcox's aunt, Judy Doughty, who added she was embarrassed for having brought her niece to the show and said they would talk about it on the drive home.

"A little too much for this age group," said Lucy Triagiai, who stood up to escort home three young girls, ages five through 11, moments after the simulated sex acts began. "I don't think it was necessary."

But the majority of the audience stayed and gave Spears a standing ovation at the end of it all. The singer, who cancelled three shows in as many weeks after injuring her knee during a dance routine last month, showed no signs of slowing down Saturday.

Memphis To Hold VMA 04? Update 2

Posted by Kaos at 11:07 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous BritneySpears.Org first reported that the MTV was interested in Memphis to hold the VMA 04 since NYC was holding the National Repubilcan Convention. WREG CBS 3 in Memphis reported The change of seasons on Beale street means more business for the clubs more money for employees. If the MTV music awards show comes later this year, it would be a great way to round out the spring and summer tourist season.

Memphis is one of the contenders to host the 2004 MTV Music Awards. A MTV spokesperson says there is no time line for the announcement of the host city. However, the chairman of the Memphis Music Commission expects a decision will be made public by next week.

Those who want their MTV, spend the day waiting to hear if they'll get it, including those like Kevin Kane from the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau.

City leaders believe Memphis' connection to music legends like Elvis, Isaac Hayes and the celebration of Rock and Roll's 50th anniversary makes the city a perfect fit for this year's award show. Plus, it's a great way to christen the new Fedex Forum, the proposed site for the event.

The chairman of the Memphis Music Commission says an announcement will come next week concerning the 2004 home for the awards.

Britney Says She Can Do Better Than That

Posted by LordBiO at 2:01 PM | Discuss

Miscellaneous Caterers to the stars, Larry and Barb Munroe of Rock & Soul Caterers in Florida have dealt with all sorts of outlandish backstage requests from singers and celebrities on tour.

Below is what Larry, who has been in the food business since 1995, tells the National Enquirer about Britney.

"We met her when she was just starting out. "She did a show and afterward she was sitting outside eating inside a fenced-in area, and all these young girls were going nuts trying to climb the fence to get to her.

"This one little girl begged me to get a photo of Britney. She handed me her camera and I said, 'Let me try.' I went over to Britney and I said, 'Excuse me, but if you're through eating, there's a nice little girl who would like to have a picture of you. Do you mind if I take your picture?'

"She said, 'I can do better than that.' She got up and walked over to the fence and stood right next to the little girl and said, 'O.K., take our picture.'" I did. You should have seen the look on that little girl's face. She was ecstatic. I can see why Britney's fans love her."

More On Postponed Concert

Posted by A51JM at 12:38 AM | Discuss

Music An ailing Britney Spears postponed her concert Thursday night at Gund Arena, her third postponement in as many weeks.

Publicist Leslie Sloane Zelnik said she didn’t know specifics of Spears’ illness. The singer postponed two shows in mid-March because of a knee injury suffered while performing in Moline, Ill.

As Thursday’s concert time approached, fans were still heading through a steady rain for Gund Arena, where security guards turned them away. The message board above the ticket windows flashed the rescheduled date, June 29.

The earlier postponed shows were in Rosemont, Ill., and Auburn Hills, Mich.

This is not an April Fools Joke, I'm sure we all wish it was though. However, the concert has been rescheduled for June 29. All tickets will be honored on a rescheduled date of June 29th. Lets all hope that the illness isnt serious and that she will make a full recovery.
