The Dream Within A Dream Tour is over. And yes, bittersweet tears were shed. This was Britney’s best tour so far. The fans were so enthusiastic. Every venue was sold out and some cities had two shows. In Los Angeles, tickets sold out in 10 minutes for both shows. It was sad for the excitement to end.

The last week was in Mexico City. Jamie Lynn and I would have flown there, but Jamie Lynn was working at Nickelodeon. Britney did some major shopping in Mexico for her new apartment in New York. She called me every time she found another amazing buy. Brit and her crew hated that the second show was shut down by the production manager because of a lightning storm. There were 50,000 screaming fans in the outdoor arena. Britney almost slipped 3 times during the first 5 songs. Lightning was hitting the stage. In the end, Mother Nature won - Brit couldn't finish the show because of safety concerns for herself, the dancers, the crew and the audience. She flew home an hour earlier than planned.

Jamie Lynn and Britney are staying busy. A little work, a lot of play. Jamie Lynn's puppy, Izzy, is keeping us all entertained and busy. Izzy is literally a handful. She weighs 1 lb. and 10 oz., yet she holds her own with our 90 lb. German Shepards and our Poodle. No more dogs! Four is enough!!

Laura Lynn is visiting with us for a week. Several of her dance friends from Louisiana State University are also here for a dance convention. Big Rob and Moe, Britney's bodyguards, will have their hands full for the next few days!

Spears Annoyed With Press In Mexico
The paparazzi made her do it. That's Britney Spears' excuse on why she gave the middle finger to the press in Mexico. Spears says she had just gotten off the plane and the paparazzi were driving recklessly around her.

She says they nearly hit the vehicle she was in so she let them know what she thought of them. Some had taken that as a sign of how Spears felt about Mexico, but she says she loves her fans there, and the gesture was really aimed at the camera people.

Her Mexico City shows this past weekend were the last on her tour.

Now, she says she's going to "take six months off and just have Britney time and just do what Britney wants to do."

Earlier this summer, Spears and Justin Timberlake said bye, bye, bye to each other after three years together, but it wasn't easy.

Less than six months later, Timberlake says he still can't say the words "break up."

"It hurts too bad to say it," the 'N Sync member told People magazine for its June 24 issue, in which he's named among "America's Top 50 Bachelors."

"You get to a point where you're crying yourself to sleep at night," he said. "I feel like I'm in the middle of a soap opera. I honestly know what it's like to have a broken heart now."

Britney Apologizes For Mexico Cancellation
Billboard.com reported that Britney Spears has issued an apology to fans in Mexico City after rough weather forced her to leave the stage Sunday having played just four full songs. "I'm sorry I couldn't finish the show for my fans," Spears said in a statement issued today (July 30) via her label, Jive Records. "The Mexican fans are one of the best audiences to play for. We decided that we had no choice but to cancel the show after the storm and lightning showed no signs of clearing up."

Spears reportedly began the Foro Del Sol Stadium show, the finale of her Dream Within a Dream tour, during a break between two storms. The label said the decision was made to ensure the safety of Spears and the other performers, her crew, and the audience, and that many of the robotic lights and pyrotechnics were malfunctioning because of the fierce storm.

The artist had performed for about 35 minutes for the more than 50,000 fans who braved the weather when the decision was made to call off the show. She was in the midst of performing the single "Stronger," when she left the stage, saying only "I'm sorry Mexico. I love you. Bye," according to a report in local paper Milenio. Now that the tour is finished, Spears told reporters she will "take six months off and just have Britney time and just do what Britney wants to do."

Beginning Thursday (Aug. 1), fans can receive a full refund for their tickets from the point of purchase.

...Question: Did you have a good time working with Britney Spears in the movie?

Verne: I'd known Britney before I actually worked with her in this movie, so she's very beautiful, definitely.

Question: How did you know her from before?

Verne: I got invited to the N*SYNC concert and we just bumped into each other several times. (someone in the press laughs a little) It's nothing sexual, though!

Question: That's a pity. That would've been a really great story.

Verne: Totally innocent.

Britney Abruptly Walks Off Mexico Stage, Ending Tour
Reuters reported that Britney Spears ended her world tour on a controversial note as rain showers cut short her final show in Mexico City on Sunday night, adding insult to injury after she made an obscene gesture upon arrival here last week.

Concert organizers OCESA said in a statement on Monday that Sunday night's thunderstorm and lightning posed a significant enough safety concern to call off the show after less than five songs.

The 20-year-old pop princess sang four songs in the last show of her Pepsi-sponsored world tour, but during the set's fifth song, "Stronger," left the stage, saying only "I'm sorry Mexico. I love you. Bye," according to a report in local daily Milenio.

Boos and jeers rained down on the stage when a public announcement asked fans to leave the Foro Sol stadium. Some concert-goers began throwing pop diva paraphernalia and chanting "fraud, fraud," the newspaper reported.

OCESA also announced in its statement that beginning Thursday fans, who paid anywhere from $14 to $190 for tickets to Sunday night's show, could get a full refund.

In the organizers' statement, Spears said she was sorry the show was canceled. "The Mexican fans are some of the best in the world. However, for the security of my company and the audience, as well as for the show's quality, I had to suspend my performance," she said.

Mexico City was the last leg of a "world tour" that began in the United States and Canada.

Spears Says Middle Finger Not Meant For Mexico Fans
Pop diva Britney Spears, under fire for making an obscene gesture shortly after arriving in Mexico City for the last stop on her world tour, said Friday she was only reacting to intrusive paparazzi.

Spears was caught by cameras extending her middle finger in a universally recognized gesture Tuesday night as she left the airport in Toluca, some 40 miles from Mexico City.

"I'm human too. I get mad like everyone else," Spears told reporters, saying photographers and camera crews were driving recklessly around her vehicle, nearly causing a wreck as she left the airport.

Spears is slated to finish her world tour at Mexico City's Foro Sol baseball stadium Saturday and Sunday in front of 52,000 fans, her biggest crowd yet.

"The fans are so amazing, the 20-year-old pop princess said. Dozens of fans braving rain outside the posh Four Seasons Hotel where she is staying did not seem fazed by Spears' initial greeting in Mexico.

Goldmember Powers Box Office With $71.4 Million
E! Online reported that Austin Powers in Goldmember shagged up a whopping $71.4 million over the three-day weekend on its way to a litany of box-office records.

New Line's third outing of the manic swinger's absurd adventures bagged the title of biggest ever July opener (beating last summer's Planet of the Apes's $68.5 million debut) and the biggest ever comedy opener (surpassing the studio's own Rush Hour 2's $67.4 million). Goldmember also had its mojo working enough to notch the third best debut of the year (behind only Spider-Man and Star Wars: Episode II--Attack of the Clones), and the fifth best of all time.

The PG-13 spy spoof, which stars Mike Myers, Michael Caine and Beyoncé Knowles and a clutch of celebrity cameos, averaged a seat-filling $19,776 at 3,613 sites.

One of those cameos included one by our very own Britney Spears who in the movie was shooting a video for "Boys"!

Britney Spears' Dad Pulls Out A Gun On Four Fans
Chris Rose from The Times-Picayune in New Orleans reported that:

Mot so long ago, a visit to Britney Spears' childhood home in Kentwood might net you an introduction to Britney's mom and a souvenir poster. But four fans from New Orleans got a much darker greeting recently, as Spears' father Jamie, exiled by force ...

Two Sundays ago, Beth Stevens and three of her friends did what hundreds -- if not thousands -- of Britney Spears fans do every year: They drove to her hometown of Kentwood, La., and its surrounding environs to soak up the landscape where the Princess of Pop was born and raised and still calls home.

They had read a story I wrote last month about how the town is all about Britney now, how her image and spirit dominate the local economy. And they had read a story in The Times-Picayune a few years ago about some Britney fans who knocked on the pop star's front door and were rewarded with signed posters.

"I don't know why, but I thought we'd kind of be welcomed if we showed up," said Erica, one of the four girls, three of whom requested that only their first names be used. "I certainly didn't expect Britney Spears' father to pull a gun on us."

The girls are all recent high school graduates -- two from Ursulines Academy, two from Mount Carmel Academy. Their trip Sunday afternoon was a summertime lark, something to do other than hang out at Lakeside Shopping Center once again. But the trip began as a disappointment and ended in sheer terror, and it's pretty safe to say their days of stalking celebrities are done. This is what happened:

Late on the afternoon of July 14, the four piled into a black Ford Excursion owned by Christy, one of the four. They hit Kentwood and stopped at a local gas station to ask for directions to the local landmarks. They left with directions to Nyla's Burger Basket -- Britney's favorite restaurant north of town -- and to the local Britney museum, and to her multi-million dollar mansion in the woods on the outskirts of town where she, her mother and her younger sister live, when they're not in L.A., which is most of the time.

...They watched as a man cased them from the carport, then disappeared into the house. They waited, and soon after, the man came out of the front door and approached the car. They lowered one tinted window, on the passenger side, where Beth Stevens was sitting, and they immediately recognized him as Britney's father, but their hoped-for brush with fame turned nasty.

Britney, Usher, Papa Roach Take A Beating Onstage
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, timber cutters, miners, construction workers and truck drivers face the highest risk of injury on the job. Perhaps the Labor Department would add "musical performer" to that list if it bothered to assign someone to study the goings-on at say, Ozzfest or the Anger Management Tour — or even Britney Spears' Dream Within a Dream Tour — to take note of the amount of blood spilled and number of fingers/arms/knees/backs injured onstage.

While many imagine that a music superstar's day on the job involves such trappings as free-flowing Cristal, gold grills, hovering hotties and tasty hors-d'oeuvres, in truth, rock and rap stars engage in some pretty dangerous, physically demanding work. OK, rhyme slingers and guitarists probably don't face the same level of danger as loggers, but everyone from Nelly to Britney to members of Aerosmith and the Calling have gotten hurt — some seriously — while performing.

Spears needed surgery on her knee in 1999 after injuring it while rehearsing dance steps, and she required four stitches after a camera fell on her head during the "Oops! ... I Did It Again" video shoot. Usher dislocated his shoulder last year while rehearsing for his tour behind 8701. Aerosmith's Joe Perry hurt his knee after jumping off a speaker. New Found Glory drummer Cyrus Bolooki broke his arm at a New York show in October. And the list goes on and on...

Rolling Stone's Toure Says Britney Still Shines
CNN.com has an article up about Britney titled "Is Spears' star falling?".

Could her current U.S. concert tour be Britney Spears' last dance?

She may seem as popular as ever, but it appears fans are not buying Britney like they used to. Just compare her smash-hit record, "Oops, I Did It Again" that sold 8.9 million copies in 2000 with her current release, "Britney," which has sold 3.7 million copies in the U.S.

A&M Records president Ron Fair seems to have an explanation for the pop princess' slump. "The same kids who two years ago were buying 'N Sync and Christina Aguilera records are responding to styles of music that are more song- and artist-driven. They haven't heard that music sung by their peers before."

CNN anchor Arthel Neville talked to Rolling Stone Contributing Editor Toure on Wednesday to get the inside scoop on Spears' status and those who may be in position to take the lead in the fickle field of teen-driven music.

Samsung & Britney Spears In Search Of The Next Big Pop Sensation
Well, I have got a bunch of e-mails from people asking about the 'Samsung Superstar Karaoke Tour'. Well, I got that information for all you fans out there:

Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung) and Britney Spears today announced the "Samsung Superstar Karaoke Tour," a 24-city karaoke promotion, giving potential pop stars the chance to perform karaoke for the chance of a lifetime. Chosen by Britney Spears' management company, the national grand prizewinner will receive an all-expense paid trip for two to Los Angeles to record a demo tape with a producer in a professional studio. The winner also will appear in Britney Spears' upcoming video.

As part of the "Samsung Superstar Karaoke Tour," participants will be given the chance to perform their favorite Britney Spears' song in front of a live audience. Hitting Best Buy stores in 24 cities across the country from July 22 to August 30, contest participants and passers-by will be given a $20 coupon toward any Samsung wireless handset and will be eligible to win Britney Spears memorabilia, including t-shirts and autographed pictures.

"Samsung is proud to help young performers realize their dreams," said Peter Skarzynski, senior vice president of wireless terminals for Samsung Telecommunications America. "The 'Samsung Superstar Karaoke Tour' offers talented young performers the chance to gain experience in front of a live audience as well as exposure to entertainment scouts in search of the next pop music sensation."

Present at each event will be the Samsung/Britney Spears' tour bus, from her recently completed "Dream Within a Dream" summer concert tour. Previously owned by Kid Rock and *NSYNC, attendees can take personal tours of the bus and view Britney Spears' latest videos.

Attendees also will have the opportunity to test Samsung's latest wireless phones, including the SGH-r225M, featuring AOL Instant Messenger and the SPH-a500 and SPH-n400 featuring full-color screens and third-generation technologies.

Jimmy Fallon Escorting Britney To The VMA?
According to Jimmy-Fallon.net: Who will accompany Britney Spears to this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, now that she’s split with Justin Timberlake? The answer seems to be that Saturday Night Live’s Jimmy Fallon will be doing double duty as host of the VMA’s and as Britney’s escort. Word from Britney’s camp is that Fallon has been smitten with the songbird for quite some time, ever since her first solo appearance on SNL back in 2000. But Jimmy bided his time and when Britney split from Justin, he made his move, and the two have been phoning and e-mailing like crazy. Everyone associated with Britney says that Jimmy "makes her laugh," something she’s been needing lately after a rough year.

Want To Record A Demo Tape For Britney Spears?
According to MTV News ...Aspiring pop stars will soon get the chance win an all-expense paid trip for two to L.A. and record a demo tape for Britney Spears' record producers and just by singing along to their favorite Britney songs on the Samsung Superstar Karaoke Tour. Britney will not be along for the ride on the tour, which makes stops at Best Buy stores in 24 cities across the country from July 22 to August 30 and also offers the chance to appear as an extra in an upcoming Britney video.

New playthings for Britney, Justin?
Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake are no more, but the ex-Mouseketeers are at least keeping the playing field even.

Both have hooked up with pop stars, reports The New York Daily News.

Marc Terenzi, whose boy band, Natural, is launching its first album, told a British reporter that he's the new man in Britney's life.

''We've known each other for about five years, but I've only been seeing her for about two months,'' says Terenzi. Calling her ''caring and sexy,'' Terenzi added, ``It's hard at the moment because we're on opposite sides of the world.''

A spokeswoman for Spears says there's no romance and that Terenzi is making a shameless play for publicity.

Timberlake, meanwhile, might have found the best revenge yet, reports The New York Post, by hooking up with Britney's biggest rival, Christina Aguilera, who once called Spears ``teeny-bop trash.''

Aguilera reportedly told a record executive: ``We've been meeting at places you'd never think we'd go to in case anyone sees us.''

Timberlake was recently linked with Janet Jackson in Miami, but a source says the relationship isn't exclusive.

Entertainment Weekly/CNN.com Video Review: "Crossroads"
The fact that gyrating belly-barer Britney Spears stars as Lucy, a demure, premed-bound class valedictorian, is but one layer in the onion of implausibility that is ''Crossroads.'' Our Brit's also a cardigan-clad daddy's girl who says ''Y'all,'' who's as comfortable in her pop's auto-repair shop as in a seedy New Orleans karaoke bar.

But if you can suspend -- make that hang on a meat hook -- every last morsel of disbelief, you'll have a gay old time watching sweet Lucy, wrong-side-of-the-tracks Mimi (Taryn Manning), and prima donna Kit (Zo Saldana) embark on a cross-country road trip of self-discovery.

Driving them is hunky, mysterious Ben (Anson Mount), the token male in a pink-and-yellow gynocracy of lip gloss and giggles, who proves his healthy testosterone count with one-liners like ''No one drives the cruiser but me!'' (He's referring, of course, to his yellow 1973 Buick Skylark.)

Unlike Mariah Carey's superbly sloppy ''Glitter,'' ''Crossroads'' holds together as a blissfully innocuous teen dream, complete with a rockin' first sexual experience for little Lucy. When the movie attempts to deal with the more serious issues facing those who aren't girls, not yet women (namely, teen pregnancy), it teeters into glibness. But hey, you still get to see Britney pole-dance.

Britney Spears' Busy Downtime
Britney Spears has got her work cut out despite just finishing her tour of America.

The troubled pop star, who reportedly collapsed last week due to exhaustion, wrapped up her "Dream Within a Dream" tour in Dallas, Texas, last night.

Britney will now be busy redecorating her Manhattan, New York home, as well as looking after her younger sister, aspiring star Jamie Lynn, as her mother Lynn cares for the singer's cancer-stricken aunt Sandra.

And Spears - who has had a difficult year with her split from Justin Timberlake - will also be penning tracks and considering offers to follow her debut big screen outing in "Crossroads" earlier this year.

Lynn says of the hectic schedule, "Brit already has her 'down time' plans in motion. She has a new Manhattan apartment to decorate and she's in the process of writing her new music."

"I've also asked for her help with caring for Jamie Lynn in my absence while I am caring for Britney's Aunt Sandra."

Britney Dating Marc Terenzi?
News of the World reported that After splitting from N-Sync star Justin Timberlake, Spears has dried her tears and is back in business with Marc, a member of new boyband outfit Natural. Marc, 21, blurted out pop's biggest secret to me in an exclusive interview this week. He said: "I'm dating Britney. We've known each other for about five years but I've only been seeing her for about two months." They met before Britney was famous at her manager's home in Orlando. "She's always great company and we bonded together as friends," said Marc. "We are always there for each other. When she split from Justin we became very close and started to see each other in a different light. "She's been through a lot with Justin and has come out the other side much stronger. Britney's a great person, she's caring and sexy." Marc and the band—Ben Bledsoe, J Horn, Michael Johnson, and Patrick King Jr—have already scored a top ten smash in the US charts with debut single Put Your Arms Around Me, to be released here in two weeks. They're now on a two-month promotional tour of Europe—which means the romance with Britney will be on a slow burn. "It's hard at the moment because we're on opposite sides of the world. But we keep in contact by phone or e-mail. I won't see her for a couple of months but after that we'll try to find some time. We're taking things as they come. Who knows what the future holds?" Britney's New Song Copied Enrique?
The Sun Newspaper Online reported that BRITNEY SPEARS’ latest song about her split with JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE is set to get her into more trouble – with ENRIQUE IGLESIAS. Britney has been singing the ballad, My Love Was Always There, on her American tour and telling fans it is a special track taken from her forthcoming album. It has been heavily hinted that the song is dedicated to ex-love Justin. It contains moving lyrics about a lost love. She sings: “If I had just one wish, I’d go back to the moment we kissed, but no matter how hard I tried, I can’t get you outta my mind.”

Sounds familiar ... Enrique

But Enrique’s management are investigating claims it is a blatant copy of a song he has written called Maybe. His song includes the lyrics: “If I had one single wish, I’d go back to the moment I kissed. No matter how I try, I can’t live without you in my life.” A source at Enrique’s label Interscope says: “Enrique heard the track and recognised it straight away. “The lyrics are almost exactly the same and the piano melody is identical. It’s a joke. “He’s not really angry, just puzzled as to how someone so big could go about copying him so blatantly. It’s almost flattering in a way. “We are looking into the matter.” The Enrique track, which the heart-throb co-wrote, is included on his multi-million selling album Escape. His fans have flooded websites dedicated to the singer with complaints about the new Britney song. I have heard both tracks and can confirm Britney’s weepy number is almost identical to Enrique’s. Britney’s as-yet-unnamed fourth album is due for release later this year. Meanwhile, Britney has her hands full with another matter — babysitting her little sister Jamie Lynn. She is helping out while her mum Lynne cares for her own sister, Sandra, who is battling cancer.

Britney's tour is coming to a close soon. I'm sure there will be lots of bittersweet tears shed at the last concert date. Everyone on tour is like family. Many of the same people have been with Britney since the beginning. Not that there will be no more tours - just not anytime soon!

It's definitely time for a hiatus. Brit already has her "down time" plans in motion. She has a new Manhattan apartment to decorate and she's in the process of writing her new music. There are also several more scripts she's reading. Brit still hasn't visited the Florida condominium.

I've also asked for her help with caring for Jamie Lynn in my absence while I am caring for Britney's Aunt Sandra. It's been a long and laborious procedure for Sandra but everything is looking really good. Thank you for your prayers.

Jamie Lynn has a busy schedule coming up. She's loving her new show and all the kids she works with. It's a very busy summer and as always, time is passing too quickly for me. We have a steady flow of Jamie Lynn's friends visiting out here in Los Angeles. That makes every day a holiday!

Britney Spears Dances Into State
Pop singer Britney Spears put on a concert Friday night full of hip swaying, smooth dance moves and special effects that left her 17,000 fans screaming for more.
The 20-year-old celebrity delighted her mostly young female audience at the Ford Center with an 85-minute show, featuring more than a dozen costume changes and catchy songs.

Oklahoma City is one of the last stops on her "Dream Within a Dream" tour, but she still showed the same high energy that her fans saw on her HBO special at the tour's kickoff in Las Vegas.

Fireworks popped, confetti flew, bubbles floated and water fell as she and her dancers pranced up and down the L-shaped, oversized stage. Twice, they used a floating stage to soar over the crowd.

She started with "Oops! ... I Did It Again," appearing in a midriff-baring black sequined-outfit, then moved quickly into "(You Drive Me) Crazy."

This was a concert full of audience participation, particularly when she stopped dancing for a moment to sit next to her piano player on the bench.

She sang a new song, "Mystic Man," that she said she wrote on the road, then moved to her hit, "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet a Woman." Fans sang the loudest of the night as they swayed and waved blue and green glow sticks.

The concert was about dancing as much as singing, and her moves were eye-catching and only occasionally too racy.

She stripped down to a green bikini top, green- and-gold sequined skirt and gold boots for her next-to-last number, "I'm a Slave 4 U." She came back quickly for her rain-drenched encore, "Baby One More Time," waving as she descended out of view.

Britney Mentioned In Abs' New Single
Abs Breen, former frontman of UK boyband Five, releases his debut solo single "What You Got" August 19th in the UK. The cheeky first single from this 23 year old Edenfield born crooner, has critics praising him left and right. Containing a sample of the 1970's UK chart topper "Uptown Top Ranking" by Althea & Donna, Abs goes on to sing about how he's got a girlfriend but hey, this other girl is fine too..in fact "She's like Britney Spears, Baby hit me one more time."

The site's operator, Daniel Rhodes, believes the fan is in the Executive Office - possibly a Secret Service officer.

Mr Rhodes said, if this was the case, the officer "was being a little lax on the job".

Britney Denies Collapse Reports
Britney Spears has denied reports she collapsed on stage "like a rag doll" at a concert in America.

Gossip magazine National Enquirer claimed the singer became dizzy and light-headed after a crash diet of raw vegetables and water.

But a spokeswoman for the star says the claims are "complete rubbish".

Britney's weight has been under tabloid scrutiny since splitting from boyfriend Justin Timberlake earlier this year.

Reports claim her weight gain was triggered by over-eating after her emotional trauma, reports the Daily Express.

Hub Lawyers To Depose Britney
Accoring to the Boston Herald, Britney herself may have to get involved in the court case between her former lawyer and the Giving Back Fund. Here is what the Boston Herald wrote:

Attorneys at Hutchins Wheeler & Ditmar in Boston are preparing to depose Britney Spears after a federal judge refused to quash a lawsuit over her exit from the Giving Back Fund.

U. S. District Court Judge Rya Zobel yesterday denied former Giving Back Fund board member Mark Steverson's attempts to eliminate the $15 million lawsuit on procedural grounds.

The fund claims Steverson, Spears' former New York attorney, got the perks of being on the board while simultaneously advising Spears and her former boyfriend, Justin Timberlake of 'N Sync, to take their donations and run.

``To the extent that their defense is Britney made me do it, then we have no choice but to take the deposition of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake,'' said GBF attorney David Rosenthal.

The judge also let GBF continue to sue Steverson's employer - entertainment law titans Rudolph & Beer of New York.

Zobel denied Steverson attorney Barry J. Brett's argument that Massachusetts courts have no jurisdiction in the matter and ruled GBF has a case against him, Laurence H. Rudolph and former GBF employee Corrina Biggar.

Britney Has Brotherly Love
She may have trouble with romance, but there's one man in Britney Spears' life who won't let her down - elder brother Bryan.

The 20-year-old pop star has suffered much heartbreak recently - her mum Lynne and dad Jamie are said to have split, while her relationship with 'N Sync singer Justin Timberlake is over.

But while Bryan, 24, prefers to avoid publicity and the showbiz glitz which surrounds his little sister, he insists that they're really close. Britney often calls her gym instructor sibling to check how he's doing, and stays in the New York apartment she bought him whenever she's in the city.

Bryan says, "Britney is my best friend. Mum, dad and I are so proud of her and everything that she's achieved."

Britney's Diner To Offer Karaoke
Britney Spears appears to have upset the "up-market" stance of her New York restaurant - NYLA is launching a karaoke night.

The singer's eaterie in Manhattan's Dylan Hotel has had a run of bad luck since it opened last month.

The opening night was a disaster - fans queued for hours in the torrential rain to see Britney, who was running late and then made a reportedly unappreciative appearance. And promised A-list stars such as Whitney Houston, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston failed to appear.

Just a week later, three Columbia University students claimed they suffered from food poisoning after eating there.

Now diners at the restaurant will be treated to the sounds of amateur crooners, though it is not known whether patrons will be allowed to cover the starlet's hits.

Britney Spears: Is She -- and Teen Pop -- Over?
Britney Spears comes to the National Car Rental Center in Sunrise tonight [7/13/02] dotted with question marks. Did she and boyfriend Justin Timberlake of 'N Sync really split? Is the teen-pop craze they helped to create fading? Is she depressed?

The point of such questions, of course, is that they're being asked. True, Spears' profile at radio and on MTV has dipped. Her album sales are off substantially from the GNP-sized tallies of two years ago. The whole industry that turned puppy love into dance-pop is in the doldrums.

Teen pop "has cooled off," says Geoff Mayfield, director of sales charts at the record trade magazine Billboard. Even the members of 'N Sync, the most successful group of the genre, seem prepared to find new jobs. Joey Fatone is acting in movies. Lance Bass has announced his intention to train for a space-shuttle mission -- as if leaving Earth would give him a fresh start.

Spears, an aging pop star by teen standards, is far from gone. She keeps the tabloids curious. At 20, she is easing into movies, with one limpid drama, Crossroads, to date and a stock-car movie of some sort in the offing thanks to a media deal with NASCAR. She is still Pepsi's girl, not to mention a restaurant owner, and she had great fun at her own expense hosting Saturday Night Live -- her second time -- in February.

Add the low-key persistence of Britney, her coming-of-age-themed third album, on Billboard charts and the steady success of her 2002 tour, and predictions of a quick exit become wishful thinking. She has lasted three years in a trade that measures progress by the week, and Forbes recently named her the new No. 1 in its annual ranking of the 100 most powerful celebrities. Even Madonna, Spears' oft-cited role model, wears a Britney T-shirt in public.

"I think [Spears] has done a great job of keeping her senses about her," says Mayfield. "She doesn't mind some of the backbiting and teasing about her. She's capitalizing on it."

And she is doing so in a less hospitable climate. Two years ago, radio started backing away from what Airplay Monitor Editor in Chief Sean Ross calls "kids making music for kids." Out went airplay-dependent heartthrobs such as 98 Degrees, LFO, Aaron Carter and ATeens (the latter just canceled a show in South Florida). Album sales followed suit. And a new breed emerged to fill the vacuum: the teen singer-songwriter, a creature not trained at pop-star farms such as Disney's Mickey Mouse Club or the studio run by svengali Lou Pearlman, but wise in the ways of the candy-coated hook and as media-friendly as a Britney. These new, self-manufactured starlets include Lindsay Pagano, Michelle Branch and Vanessa Carlton.

During the teen-market shake-up, however, new records by the old hands still commanded attention. Britney, released in November, sold more than 700,000 copies in its first week, a drop-off from the previous disc, Oops! ... I Did It Again, but still one of the biggest opening frames ever.

There are also indications that teen-pop might spawn a second wave. One entrant, boy group B2K, has its self-titled debut on pace to sell more than 500,000 copies. The quintet has joined with kid rapper Bow Wow, who recently dropped the diminutive "Lil" from his stage name, on a nationwide tour that visits 20,000-seat AmericanAirlines Arena in September.

Other would-be contenders now step into an entrenched teen-market infrastructure. It stretches from shopping-mall tours with corporate sponsors to the Nickelodeon network's Nick Video Pick to Teen People magazine, and it searches constantly for new teen properties.

"There's always going to be a niche that you can hit with kids," says Mayfield.

The Spears tour continues to soak up their disposable income, grossing $18.9 million in ticket sales from January through June to become one of the year's biggest, according to concert trade magazine Pollstar.

"She is not on the down-slope," says Pollstar editor-in-chief Gary Bongiovanni. He adds that it's too early to say whether she will carry an audience into adulthood.

"The problem with the teen-oriented music of all eras," says Billboard's Mayfield, "is when kids hit puberty they tend to shed what they liked last week. That happened with New Kids on the Block. It happened with Kris Kross. It happened with Vanilla Ice. And if you look deeper into music history, that probably happened to a lot of others as well."

Spears is attacking that problem in two ways. One, as suggested by her recent single, I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman, is to make growing up part of the program. The other is to diversify -- into film, advertising and other ventures that could move her away from music but keep her in entertainment.

If these gambits don't work, don't feel too bad for Spears and her ilk.

"Even if all of them fall on their faces tomorrow," says Mayfield, "they've had a longer run than most."

Britney Spears says she'll never forget her worst concert performance - and it makes her work even harder to make sure she never repeats it.

She recalls, "I had on a flight suit that my dancers were supposed to pull off me. There I was, in front of thousands of people and they were pulling and tugging on me - and it wouldn't come off.

"If that wasn't bad enough, later that same show, I slipped on a cupcake that someone had thrown onstage."

Britney Goes Backstreet
Britney Spears is taking a pop at her 'N Sync ex-lover Justin Timberlake - by duetting with his arch rival Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter.

Britney will croon with Nick on his forthcoming solo album.

A friend says, "Nick wants his record to be a huge success. So he got the nerve to ask Britney to do a song with him and much to his surprise, she agreed."

The Backstreet Boys are on the same record label Jive as Britney and 'N Sync.

The pal continues, "Britney and Nick have been friends for some time. But even so, he never dreamed she would do a duet with him."

The pair have only been close for a few years. Britney and Nick got off to a bad start when the hunky singer publicly slammed her, but later apologised for his "lapse in judgement."

A music industry expert predicts fireworks in the video, saying, "These are two of the hottest people in pop. It's going to be a really sexy song and even steamier video."

Britney May Testify In Hub For Fund's Suit VS. Her Ex-Lawyer
According to The Boston Herald, pop princess Britney Spears could wind up on the witness stand in federal court in Boston in a legal battle involving the charity she dumped as manager of her donations, attorneys said yesterday.

``If they're going to hide behind their clients, their client is going to have to be deposed,'' said David Rosenthal, attorney for the Giving Back Fund.

The fund, which manages celeb foundations under one umbrella, is suing Spears' former New York lawyer, Mark Steverson, for $16 million...

Britney and Jamie Lynn vacationed together for the 4th of July. Their schedules worked out perfectly. Brit was with us in Los Angeles. We did what we always do every vacation: eat too much and stay up too late. Even though we love time off, it was good to be back on schedule.

On Brit's off time, she also worked on some great new tunes for the next album. Britney loves getting in the studio when she doesn't have to worry about her schedule the next day. There just seems to be more creative juices when you're relaxed.

We have a new member of the Spears family. She's a half-pound, 9 week old Pomeranian puppy. Her name is Izzy – short for Isabelle. She is a gift from Jamie (a.k.a. Daddy). Jamie Lynn has become so responsible! She definitely amazed me by tending to the pup's every need! Perhaps even more amazing is that, when we’re all out together, people actually notice this adorable pup instead of Britney!

Pepsi And Wal-Mart Bring Britney Spears To Shoppers
Pepsi and Wal-Mart are holding your front row seat to see Britney Spears in an exclusive in-store concert on Wal-Mart TV and in-store radio this summer. On Saturday, July 27, at 7 p.m. local time, Wal-Mart TV will broadcast one hour of a Britney Spears concert from her sold out 2002 summer tour in more than 2,600 Wal-Mart stores around the country. The broadcast can be viewed by customers on any of Wal-Mart’s in-store televisions, or customers may listen to the concert in stores on Wal-Mart radio. Pepsi displays in Wal-Mart Action Alleys and banners in front of Wal-Mart stores will remind shoppers about the show.

“Wal-Mart is excited to offer our customers an opportunity to view this concert,” said Bob Connolly, executive vice president of marketing for Wal-Mart. “We are always looking for ways to provide our customers with a unique shopping experience and this concert will enable many Britney Spears fans a chance to see one of her sold out performances.”

“We’re thrilled to be working with Wal-Mart to give their shoppers a chance to see Britney in concert,” said Mike Dillon, director of customer marketing for Pepsi-Cola North America. “Britney brings unparalleled energy and excitement to each one of her shows. Now, through Wal-Mart TV, thousands of fans will have the chance to see her perform who otherwise might not have had the opportunity.”

Charity Sues Britney For Bolting
A Boston-based charitable fund claims in a lawsuit that Britney Spears' decision to end her affiliation with the group has cost it millions in donations.

The Giving Back Fund is suing Mark Steverson, Spears' former lawyer, for $15 million.

The lawsuit claims that Steverson violated his duty as a member of the Giving Back Fund board of directors by advising Spears and 'N Sync's Justin Timberlake to sever ties with the fund last year.

Neither Spears nor Timberlake are named as defendants.

Both singers had set up foundations under the umbrella of the Giving Back Fund, which manages celebrities' charitable foundations.

After a hearing in U.S. District Court Tuesday, a lawyer for Steverson said the lawsuit is without merit.

"Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake want to do some charitable things and they decided this (Giving Back Fund) wasn't the way they wanted to go," said attorney Barry Brett.

David Rosenthal, a lawyer for the Giving Back Fund, told Judge Rya Zobel that losing Spears was a severe setback.

"The woman is an icon. She is the No. 1 celebrity in the world. There is a huge benefit to being associated with her," Rosenthal said.

The judge did not immediately rule on Brett's request to dismiss the lawsuit.

To Stand Or Not To Stand
I got this e-mail from a fan that went to Britney's concert on July 5th:

"Hey,

I went to the July 5th show in Atlantic City, and I must say Britney was great! This is my second time seeing her and she never ceases to amaze me! But there was one problem with the arena, The Boardwalk Hall. They wouldn't let us stand up!! Usually at every concert i go to, including the other Britney show in Philly, the audience stands up and watches, or as in my case dances along with her!! But 3 songs in, an usher commanded us to sit down!!! And throughout the whole show, most of the audience was seated. Right after her "I'm A Slave 4 U" performance she even exclaimed "I hope you had a great time...STAND UP!!!" And I was relieved to at least stand and groove to her finale of "Baby One More Time." It was a great show overall, her performance kicked ass, but note to the Boardwalk Hall...LET US STAND!!!"

Looks like she's sayin' bye bye bye to her days of tacky matching denim-and-rhinestone ensembles with you-know-who.

You've Got A Call On Your Cell Phone - It's From Britney
You've probably accepted by now that Britney Spears is never going to call, even if she actually had your number.

That doesn't mean, however, that she won't leave you a voicemail -- for a price. (No, not your soul.) For $19.99, you can purchase a three-month subscription to Britney's wireless fan club, which entitles you to "surprise" voice and text messages delivered right to a mailbox you can access from your mobile phone.

It's the latest in the marketing of Brand Britney (didn't she used to be a singer?), this time under the guidance of WFX, a New York wireless network working to marry technology and entertainment fads.

"Lots of people were thinking about how to sell content and how to deliver content and how to make the wireless device, the cellphone, into a medium for entertainment," Jed Alpert, president and chief executive officer of WFX, said in a recent phone interview. "A celebrity's voice is a very powerful thing, intimate information about a celebrity is a very powerful thing and a cell phone is a powerful thing that everyone has with them."

Available for the past two months exclusively at Best Buy stores, other retailers will soon stock Britney WFX, Alpert says. Fans who buy the Britney kit get kitschy goodies, including a replica all-access backstage laminate and a static cling decal. They also get a phone card-size piece of plastic with a sultry picture of Britney on the front and an access code on the back that allows them to receive pre-recorded voice and text messages from the pre-packaged singer and her retinue.

"Britney was a very natural first one to start with, because she has a very dedicated fan base," Alpert says. "She is enthusiastic about communicating with people who consume her product."

A sample access code provided by WFX yielded a voice message from a woman who identified herself as Sonya, the head of wardrobe for Britney's tour. Sonya talked on the scratchy recording about shopping for new outfits for the performer and her dancers and mentioned that they'd go shopping again in a few days. Not exactly a peek into the wild backstage world of Britney Spears, but better than nothing.

Alpert and WFX aren't stopping with Britney. He says the company has plans to create wireless fan clubs for other entertainers and expand into the sports world too.

"It doesn't require a lot of technology or technological expertise. Your phone becomes, in the case of Britney Spears, kind of a fan club in your pocket where you have direct access to the artist," Alpert says. "That kind of commitment and loyalty from fans is rewarded, because in addition to information, you get first crack at tickets, first crack at merchandise."

If only we got first crack at buying the artist's stuff at the post-fame IRS auction, but that's probably a different fan club.

Vacation

New Section At BritneySpears.org
As I posted last week, I asked fans to e-mail me their local radio station information to put toghether a new section here at BritneySpears.org, and I want to say thanks to all of the people that did e-mail me. I got hundreds of e-mails from all over the U.S. and Canada.

"Radio Request" is a new section dedicated to fans finding their local radio stations and requesting Britney's current single "Boys (Co-Ed Remix)" so that she will have more radio airplay all over the U.S. and Canada where there has been a lack of it recently. Now, as many of you already know, there seems to be an issue with Clear Channel radio stations not playing Britney in recent months, but hopefully this will help in changing that.

Poll: Lopez, Spears Need New Loves
Attention J. Lo and Britney: Some fans think it's time for some new relationships.

According to a TV Guide poll, a majority of fans don't want Jennifer Lopez to reunite with lost love Sean "P. Diddy" Combs or see Britney Spears get back together with Justin Timberlake.

The results appear in the July 6 issue, which hits newsstands Monday.

Lopez, 31, recently separated from her husband, dancer Cris Judd. While she is now single again, 73 percent of fans don't want her to go back to former boyfriend Combs.

Combs and Lopez had a high-profile romance for two years before breaking up in February 2001. She married Judd, one of her background dancers, seven months later.

And 59 percent of those polled said they didn't want to see Spears, 20, returning to 'N Sync star Timberlake.

Timberlake, 21, has said he's not ready to date again because he's focusing on his career; he's recording his first solo album at a studio in Virginia Beach, Va.

Spears Frequents Mississippi's Nyla
Britney Spears owns a New York restaurant that was named Nyla to honor the Big Apple and her home state of Louisiana. But Spears is a customer at a Mississippi eatery called Nyla's too.

Nyla Price, owner of Nyla's Burger Basket, in Osyka, Miss., was in New York for the grand opening of Spears' restaurant Thursday, said Becky Millien, a waitress and cook at Price's restaurant.

Millien said the singer orders grilled chicken sandwiches when she's staying at her home about four miles west in Kentwood, La.

"And she likes mustard greens," Millien said Saturday.

Millien declined to say if Price has any connection to Spears' Southern-style restaurant other than the name. Price was traveling and unavailable for comment, Millien said.

A message left at Spears' restaurant was not returned.

Diva Britney Relives The Dream At Fleet

It was Britney baby one more time when the pop diva brought her 'Dream Within a Dream' tour back to the FleetCenter last night.

She's not a girl, not yet a woman, but Britney Spears might be one heck of a lip syncer. There were back-up singers, a live band that appeared to be playing instruments, and a microphone pack on Spears as she shook, shimmied and strutted to her multiple hits including "Overprotected," "Stronger" and "Crazy."

Spears, however, sounded exactly like she does on her albums. Without any audible breathing sounds, it's hard to believe the girl with the best hair extensions in show business actually was singing live. But who cares? She's an entertaining and engaging performer. People came to see Britney do her thing and that's exactly what she did.

An explosive start found Spears spinning upside down while singing "Oops! . . . I Did It Again." With more than seven major costume changes, a bevy of talented back-up dancers and an elaborate set that included a moving platform, Spears' show is like a Vegas-style production. Over-the-top and a little cheesy, but certainly enjoyable. Her concert is supposed to tell a story, although its nuances were a little hard to decipher over the enthusiastic shrieking.

Continuously decked out in her classic midriff-bearing but not too revealing attire, the dichotomy of her "not that innocent" image was most evident during her two closing numbers. A set that looked like children's drawings of houses and cars was the backdrop for the joyful and carefree "Anticipating." Spears skipped and acted like a pre-teen excited to go to a party. Then she immediately stripped off her outfit down to the skimpiest of shorts and launched into panting and sexual "I'm a Slave 4 U." One can only wonder what the 8-year-olds in the crowd thought about that song.

A stylized, highly choreographed and extremely coordinated production like this doesn't leave much room for interaction with the crowd. But when she came out to sing her ballad "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman," she confessed that she had been feeling "overwhelmed" and that she has been writing songs during her free time. She then sang a bluesy untitled song she "wrote the other day." On these slow numbers, it should be noted, it did appear Spears was actually singing.

Opening act LMNT's five-song set was composed of the unmemorable ballad "The Best" and the rather catchy "Juliet." The four-member group (three of whom were finalists but not winners on the television series "Making the Band") seems to be trying to get on a ship that has long since sailed. Perhaps the boy-band phenomenon isn't over, but there's no way LMNT's tired format could live up to their popular predecessors.

David Hasselhoff Leaves Britney Concert
Britney Spears' stage performances have proved too hot for one man - former Baywatch star David Hasselhoff.

The actor took his two daughters, Taylor, 12, and Hayley, nine, to see Spears perform at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas - but was forced to bolt halfway through the first act.

One of Britney's costumes for her breathtaking stage performance consists of a flesh-coloured bodysuit, sequined bra top and cowboy hat. And after she gets 'rained on' there's little left to the imagination, say sources.

Hasselhoff didn't think the show was "appropriate" for his girls and hustled the disappointed duo out of there immediately.
