Britney Engagement Reports Untrue Says Spokeswoman
Ananova reported that reports that Britney Spears has agreed to marry Justin Timberlake are untrue, according to the singer's UK representatives. Media reports claimed the NSync star proposed to Britney while the pair were recording their duet, What It's Like To Be Me. But a spokeswoman for Britney's record label Jive Records has dismissed the engagement reports. The spokeswoman told Ananova: "As fas as we are aware these stories are not true. "In interviews, Britney has always said she is too young to get married. Britney and Justin have bought each other matching Cartier rings, but that does not mean they are engaged." The spokeswoman added that Britney would deny the engagement rumours in an interview for the ITV show Rich and Famous, which will be aired next week.

Britney To Be A Bride
This Is London reported that Britney Spears is about to become a bride. Her boyfriend, singer Justin Timberlake, 20, popped the question during a recording session for their new duet. It is claimed that Justin, from the hit American band N Sync, got down on one knee while they were working at the home of his music manager in Florida. A studio source said: "Justin's heart must have been in his mouth. She acted like she was going to say 'no'. Then she started to cry and said ... 'Yes, Yes, Yes, I'll marry you'." Despite sharing a house in Hollywood, they both claim to be virgins. They first met on the Mickey Mouse Club TV show in the early Nineties. Even The Sun Newspaper Online reported it here.

California School Sues Over Yearbook With Britney Picture
WENN reported that eight high school students are suing the school district for the cost of publishing a replacement yearbook, alleging administrators censored the original. The lawsuit alleges that Salinas High School removed pictures of pop stars Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears with bare midriffs and cut quotes such as "School is like a lollipop. It sucks until it's gone." Citing state law that grants free speech rights to student publications, the students seek $51,000 so they can reprint the yearbook "in its uncensored form." The suit was filed in Monterey County Superior Court. "The censored material was remarkably tame stuff," said Steven Andre, the students' attorney. "These educators should be nurturing and encouraging our nation's future leaders to use and respect their First Amendment freedoms."

Zomba Settles with MP3.com
Zomba Music Group, home to such acts as 'N Sync (news - web sites) and Britney Spears, has settled its copyright-infringement suit against Vivendi Universal-owned online company MP3.com. As part of the agreement, Zomba has licensed its catalog to be used in MP3.com's my.mp3.com database service. Zomba filed its copyright-infringement lawsuit against MP3.com in September 2000 and was seeking the maximum statutory damages of $150,000 per infringed work. A federal judge ruled in June that MP3.com was liable for infringing on Zomba's copyrights. The settlement comes before the damages phase of the trial, which was scheduled for early September.

Zomba Signs with Bertelsmann

After months of tense negotiations, Bertelsmann has persuaded Zomba Music Group, home to 'N Sync and Britney Spears, to renew its distribution deal for another year, sources said. The German conglomerate, which has long relied on Zomba recordings to prop up its sales market share, will continue to distribute Zomba recordings in Canada and the U.S. through fall 2002. Representatives of BMG and Zomba declined to comment. The move follows industry speculation that Zomba would leave Bertelsmann to cut a similar deal with British music giant EMI Group.

Britney Is A Birdwatcher
WENN reported that Britney Spears's secret is out - the self-proclaimed virgin is really a nerdy birdwatcher. Pop babe Brit will become the first human to grace the cover of a British ornithological magazine. The Oops...I Did It Again hitmaker has her own binoculars, birdspotting books and has pictures of herself feeding the feathered creatures. Mike Everett, a spokesman for the ROYAL SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO BIRDS, says, "Kids will look up to her and see that birding is cool. She can become a great role model because she is also endorsing the environment."

Robbie Chases Britney
WENN reported that Robbie Williams is chasing pop princess Britney Speears round Los Angeles - in a desperate bid to persuade her to sing with him on his new album. So far the Angels singer has been plagued with amazingly bad luck, missing the sexy pop star by minutes wherever he goes. A member of Williams's entourage was with the singer when he arrived at the COFFEE BEAN cafe on Los Angeles's trendy Sunset Boulevard, and couldn't believe it when one of the waitresses told him Britney had just left. Williams's pal says, "He couldn't believe his bad luck. He's desperate to set up a duet with Britney, it'd be the one sure way of cracking the American market. "But he's having a really hard time tracking her down. Imagine how perfect it would have been if he'd just gone into Coffee Bean a few minutes earlier - it would have been perfect."

Oregon Quarterback Joey Harrington Likes Britney
Yahoo reported that the interviews were lined up, one after another, for Oregon quarterback Joey Harrington. After months of promotion, which began in June with the unveiling of a 10-story-high billboard of Harrington in midtown Manhattan, the man Oregon has touted as ``Joey Heisman'' can't wait for Saturday, when the No. 10 Ducks open their season against No. 23 Wisconsin. The interviews dragged on for so long, and the questions were so shop-worn (``How's it feel to see your picture on the side of a building?'') that a sports information staffer brought in a life-size poster of singer Britney Spears, whom Harrington adores, to cheer him up. The quarterback also passed the time by clicking a pen and playing with a strip of tape, hinting at how anxious he is to start the season.

Welcome Back
I want to welcome everyone back to BritneySpears.org, because we have been down the last 2 days. Our server had to be completely rebuilt but we are back now! The news database for July was lost, along with most of the picture archive (but we hope to bring that back in a few weeks).

Also if you wondering, the news comments will be brought back in 2 weeks because we really liked hearing what everyone had to say about our Britney news updates.
