Mobiles Ring Up Royalty Payments
Itn.co.uk reported a new drive to protect the copyright of musicians could mean pop stars like Madonna and Britney Spears picking up extra royalties from mobile phone ring
tones. Pop artists and other composers now have the right to demand payment if their work is sampled and used for ring tones. Many people are already used to having an often bewildering choice of ring tone when they buy a phone. But a number of websites have sprung up offering customised novelty tones - often using pop hits of the moment, or popular TV theme songs. Users of the websites are able to "download" the tone by entering their mobile phone number. Some sites - like www.yourmobile.com - offer ring tones but make it clear the music is offered by agreement with the copyright owners.

MCDs and Musical Posters From Yaboom
Rock 'n Roll will rule this holiday season, especially with technology making it easy and hip to listen to your favorite songs wherever you want. This year, Yaboom has two surefire successes to make your star-studded holiday wishes come true -- MCDs and Musical Posters! MCDs, or mini compact discs, are lightweight and portable collectible key chains that play CD quality full-length songs. Small enough to make a great holiday stocking stuffer, MCDs can be put into your cargo pants pocket, purse or left dangling from a backpack and the superior sound will resound in your ears. MCDs retail for about $10. If you need something a bit flashier, at the touch of a button, your favorite artist will sing you a lullaby in your room or help form a crowd around your locker with the high quality CD sound exuding from your Musical Poster. Musical Posters come in two sizes -- locker ($10) and full-size wall posters ($20). "Major stars such as Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Christina Aguilera, 'N Sync, and Ricky Martin are on board already, and the artist and song lists are continuing to grow rapidly," points out Glenn Rudin, spokesperson for Yaboom. "Kids know what they want -- and judging from sales this fall, MCDs and Musical Posters are it." Other artists signed on with Yaboom include Michael Jackson, TLC, Spice Girls, Elton John, B*Witched, and Five. So if you have to be in school or anywhere else instead of watching Total Request Live on MTV, this is clearly the best alternative to get your daily dose of stardom.

Now 5 Being Released This Week
Kcstar reported that "Now 5" was released this week, and given its pre-Christmas timing and the series' momentum, it's likely to be one of the best-selling albums of the year. Like its predecessors, "Now 5" sticks to a well-honed formula: (1) Cull recent hits from the Top 40, R&B and rock charts. (2) Spend millions on TV ads, including prime time. (3) Wait for the money to roll in. The new "Now," like its predecessors, targets the Britney brigade and its older brothers. Featured this time is 'N Sync (which kicks in "It's Gonna Be Me"), Sisqo ("Incomplete"), BBMAK ("Back Here") and aging New Jersey rockers Bon Jovi ("It's My Life"). Britney Spears gives up "Lucky," while her two most famous imitators, Jessica Simpson and Mandy Moore, toss in "I Think I'm in Love With You" and "I Wanna Be With You," respectively. Indie rockers Everclear surrender their last shred of credibility and hand over "Wonderful." Credit: A51JM

Johnny Vaughan persuaded Britney Spears to Appear on His New Chat Show
PeopleNews reported that Johnny Vaughan has persuaded Britney Spears to appear as the first guest on his new chat show. The American pop starlet would be a guaranteed ratings winner for the new series, due to start in the New Year. According to sources at Channel 4, Vaughan clinched the deal for Britney, 18, to appear on the show, during her trip to London this week. One insider said: 'The details have to be sorted out, but Britney is very keen to do it. Johnny will fly to the States to do the interview if necessary.' A Channel 4 spokesman refused to confirm the guests for the first series which will broadcast three times a week. He said, 'It's too early to say who will be appearing.' But bosses at Channel 4 are hoping that Vaughan, who quits the Big Breakfast at the end of the year, will become the 'new Parky', and emulate the success of the BBC's chat-show veteran in persuading big-name stars to reveal their secrets. However Vaughan, 34, is having problems persuading some celebrities to join the line-up for the new series. Madonna has already snubbed his plea for her to appear on the show, according to industry insiders. The move follows Vaughan's last interview with her, which critics derided as 'obsequious' and 'creepy'.
Courtney Love talks about Britney
Entertaindom reported that Rocker Courtney Love has hit out at musical superstars Eminem, Britney Spears and Marilyn Manson. After making a surprise appearance as a special guest at the first Rockgirl Music Conference in Seattle last week, the Hole frontwoman held court for a 90-minute debate at the city's Renaissance Madison Hotel -- and let rip into the three singers. She described rapper Eminem as "the first totally post-modern artist," saying that "without context he's nothing -- without that endorsement from Dr. Dre, he's nothing." She said Manson does not sell that many records, "because it's not 1975." And then the "People vs. Larry Flynt" actress finally laid into Britney, saying the "Baby One More Time" pop princess was "like a Barbie." Love did manage one compliment, however -- calling the man behind many of Britney's hits, Max Martin, a "genius."

Britney ends Europe tour with a bang
Dotmusic reported Britney Spears fans waited patiently for two hours in the rain last night (Wednesday November 15th) to see their hero at her European tour farewell
bash. Metropolitan police had to temporarily close the street where the American-style diner Planet Hollywood is situated as the celebrities arrived to help the teenage sensation party. The singer was presented with a doll of herself on her arrival and she smiled and said 'thank you' before being despatched to the VIP lounge. Spears, who wore tight jeans, a purple top
with feathers and pointed snakeskin boots, spent little more than an hour at the shindig but other famous folk flocked to join in the fun. Chart-toppers A1 were there along with crooner Finley Quaye, glamour model Jordan, US child
actor Macaulay Culkin and TV presenter Dani Behr. Britney's tour comes to a spectacular finish at Birmingham's NEC on November 21st.

Britney's farewell to Britain
ITN reported that Britney Spears has hosted a star studded party in London's West End to mark the end of her sell-out European tour. Police had to close a busy street as hundreds of fans turned out for a glimpse of the superstar as she arrived at the party in Planet Hollywood. Many of her admirers had to spend several hours in the pouring rain, waiting for the princess of pop to show up. Britney was visibly shaken as she was bundled by her minders past the crowds and into the party's VIP lounge. But she managed a smile and "thank you" as she was presented with a doll of herself on the way in. Earlier, she had performed to thousands at the London Arena. She dressed up for the occasion, wearing a purple top with feathers, tight denim jeans with rips down the side, and snakeskin pointed boots. Despite hosting the bash, Britney spent just over an hour at the party before being whisked away again. A host of celebrities came to the party including `Home Alone' actor Macaulay Culkin who arrived with a group of girls. Jamie Bell, star of ballet film Billy Elliot, also attended and was accompanied by his family. The party was held to mark the end of her European tour, which included dates in London, Manchester and Birmingham. During the past few weeks, Britney has also performed in Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Holland, Sweden, Denmark and France. She still has several more concerts to perform before finally heading back to the States. This includes two dates at the Birmingham NEC on November 20-21. The concerts had to be rescheduled from early October due to technical difficulties.
Britney to remake Lost Boys?
ITN reported that Britney Spears is hotly tipped to star in a remake of 1988 vampire film The Lost Boys, which will begin filming next year. The original film starred Kiefer Sutherland, and depicted a gang of motorbike-riding vampires, who terrorised a small Californian town. The movie was hugely successful and would mark a credible move into film for Britney. The new film, which is being written by Joel Schumacher, director of the original, will feature an all-girl biker gang. The girls turn into vampires at dusk. It seems that the teen singer is keen to make the remake. Britney, who is reported to have pulled out of talks to star in Grease 3, is thought to be keen to land a major part in the film. "She feels that a sequel to The Lost Boys would be far more up her street," a source said. Whether Britney Spears would make a convincing vampire in her film role is likely to be a matter for debate among her large army of fans.
Britney Clones, Morphs To Web In 3D
Adweek reported that Britney Spears on Thursday unveiled her 3D animated alter ego on jumbo screens at a sold-out London concert - and plans to showcase 3D Britney on the rest of her worldwide tour and on her official Web site, BritneySpears.com. The character -- conceived by iToymaker.com, an online marketing company based here, and created by Pulse Entertainment, a San Francisco-based rich-media 3D technology provider, in association with Britney Brands -- highlights the convergence of traditional media and entertainment on the Internet. "The 3D Britney only scratches the surface of what we're planning to do on behalf of Spears," said Jacqueline Hein, CEO and founder of iToymaker.com.
Britney 25th Greatest Pop Song
The Associated Press reported that "Yesterday," the wistful Beatles ballad that has been recorded more than 3,000 times by
other artists, was chosen the greatest pop song since 1963 by MTV and Rolling Stone magazine. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson and Madonna have two songs each within the top 25 of the 100-song list. The Rolling
Stones' ode to sexual frustration, "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," was second. Another music channel, VH1, named it the greatest song in the rock era in a list earlier this year. Nirvana's 1991 single, "Smells Like Teen Spirit," which launched rock's grunge era and was the career apex for the late Kurt Cobain, was third. The list is sure to fire up arguments among music fans. MTV and Rolling Stone arbitrarily used the emergence of The Beatles as a starting point and said their list was based on songs that had the most influence on popular culture, not necessarily the best songs. That's why, for example, Eric Clapton's "Layla" wasn't included but his ballad, "Tears in Heaven" (No. 45), was. The choice of "Yesterday," which has been covered by Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Boyz II Men and many others, was "an automatic," said Tom Calderone, MTV's senior vice president for music programming. "Every generation knows `Yesterday,'" Calderone said. While a simple melody, the Paul McCartney-sung tune tells an emotionally complex story of regret, said Joe Levy, music editor at Rolling Stone. The current teen pop phenomenon is well represented: the Backstreet Boys' "I Want it That Way" (No. 10), Britney Spears' "...Baby One More Time" (No. 25) and 'N Sync's "Bye Bye Bye" (No. 55) are all included. Rolling Stone is devoting a special issue to the list, and MTV is counting it down in a five-part series starting Nov. 20. To read more go here. Thanks A51JM.

Britney's End-Of-Tour Party in London Planet Hollywood
Daily Record is reporting that Britney Spears will cause chaos in London tonight when she hosts a plush end-of-tour party. The teenage singer is expected to bring Picadilly Circus to a standstill when she arrives at Planet Hollywood. The bash is expected to attract a host of stars including Westlife, Steps, Five and Billie. Police are drafting in dozens of extra officers to keep fans in check. Several teams of specialist units and traffic cops will be on site, as well as a private security team looking after the singer. It is predicted the event could attract more fans than the 10,000-strong crowd drawn by Leonardo DiCaprio's The Beach premiere last year. One party organiser said: "Britney's going to bring Picadilly to a standstill, and central London will feel the pinch. That's why the police operation is so carefully planned." Britney is also set to cause a stir in London next month performing at the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party. She plans to eclipse her show-stopping appearance at the MTV Video Awards in New York when she stripped from a tuxedo into a skimpy bikini.
Britney's Shoes in Shoemania II Charity Auction
On the heels of the successful Shoemania online charity auction, PlanetHollywood.com is giving fans another chance to bid on shoes that once belonged to their favorite celebrities. Shoemania II, a ten-day online auction to benefit Orlando's Southern Ballet Theatre, will run through Nov. 20 on PlanetHollywood.com. Shoemania items are listed on eBay and are accessible at http://www.planethollywood.com. "In the first online auction, Madonna proved to be the favorite among shoe fanatics with her Dolce & Gabbana Yellow Snakeskin Platforms getting the highest bid, $2125. Following on her heels were country singer Faith Hill's cowboy boots ($1525) and teen sensation Britney Spears' signed Skechers ($1450). Successful bidders came from the United States, Canada, India, and the Netherlands -- proving the reach of the auction and the global awareness of the Planet Hollywood brand."
Britney Too Busy for Buffy
Mr Showbiz News reported there'll be no Britney Spears on Buffy the Vampire Slayer after all. Spears, who is pals with Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar, had to pull out of a planned appearance on the teen demon-slaying WB show due to scheduling conflicts, TV Guide reports. But life goes on in Sunnydale. Buffy co-executive producer Marti Noxon tells the magazine, "We're still going to do the episode, we're just going to do it with someone else." Exactly what kind of character Spears was to have played was, and still is, privileged information. "The [story] idea is still valid, and we're going to go ahead and run with it," says Noxon. "But now that [Spears is] not available, we're going to push that episode to a little bit later." In other words, it's an open call for singing and dancing demons. If the pop singer does get a break in her schedule, she still wants to do the show. Her rep tells TV Guide, "Britney loves the show, and she'll probably do it one day, but right now, they just can't schedule anything."

Britney in The Lost Girls?
Empire Online reported tha intrigued by rumours that Britney Spears is at the top of Joel Schumacher’s list to star in a sequel to The Lost Boys, they decided to ask the director of the cult classic if the princess of pop was about to trade teenage kicks for vampire flicks in The Lost Girls. ‘I don’t know,’ Schumacher told us today (10 November). ‘I’m not gonna direct The Lost Girls. They asked me to executive produce it but I haven’t seen the script yet and I would assume the director would choose the actors who are gonna be in it. I guess they’d have to see if she can act first, but I don’t think I’ll be that involved with The Lost Girls.’

Though the multi-millionaires are not ideally qualified to tackle the issue of poverty, Britney's mother Lynne believes that it is something that she feels that needs to address. "The book is about the struggles this mother and daughter face being poor and living in an affluent world. It has been hard for us to have time to put finishing touches on the dialogue, because Brit has been so busy," she explained. Nonetheless, they are hoping to release the book in time for Mother's Day next year and the jet-setting mother and daughter are planning to cross paths in London next week to find time to work on the novel.

Britney most wanted guest for Christmas Dinner
Daily Record reported POP singers and soccer stars are the guests youngsters would most like to invite to their family Christmas dinner this year. Britney Spears and Michael Owen are top of the guest list compiled by British children, who were asked to choose a famous person to join them for their turkey and trimmings. A wide variety of Britain's TV personalities and sports stars were nominated in the Cartoon Network's poll of 250 seven to 11-year-olds. But all the top five star selections by girls were pop stars - with Britney Spears the first choice, followed by S Club 7, Steps, Posh Spice and Robbie Williams. Boys picked Michael Owen as first choice, followed by David Beckham, Robbie Williams, Santa and of course, beautiful Britney. A spokesman for the Cartoon Network said: "The results reveal that the dreams of most of the boys and girls would come true if Britney Spears or Michael Owen joined them for Christmas dinner." More can be found here. Thanks A51JM.
New Letter from Lynne Spears
Britney's Mom, Lynne Spears has put up a new letter dated 11/9/00 on The Official Britney Spears Website. Lynne starts off the letter saying "Brit's house is coming along, but it doesn't seem like it's going fast enough. I'm tired of looking at the one I'm in and seeing all the repairs it needs. I'm tired of waiting to get in the new one. I have no idea where to put up the Christmas tree. I really feel bad for Brit, because she is going to be so tired after this tour. About the time she comes home, she will probably get here in time to move in the new house. She will be so tired, but she will knock herself out helping me move in. That's the reason I feel really bad she is coming home to an unfinished house".
Justin's Got a Package For Britney
New York Daily News Online reported that Justin Timberlake wants to take his romance with Britney Spears and "kick it up a notch." The 'N Sync singer was overheard this week in the greenroom at "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" telling people of his plans to hit Tiffany's. He planned to buy some pearls at the ritzy jewelry store as a Christmas gift for "my girl," as he described Spears. And he wasn't about to stop there. Timberlake explained that the pearls were "part of a whole package." While continuing to insist that she's still a virgin, Spears nevertheless has referred to Timberlake as "the perfect man for me." If he comes calling with that light-blue Tiffany's box, he may become even more perfect.

Prince Harry invited to Britney's Party
dotmusic reported that Britney has lost interest in Britain's heir to the throne, Prince William, and has put his younger brother Prince Harry on her guest list instead. The singer was sending letters to William but they were apparently being intercepted by Buckingham Palace before they reached him. Now it's Harry that she is keen to meet. He has been invited to her special end-of-tour party, which takes place at London's Planet Hollywood next week and the Prince is keeping his fingers crossed that his school, Eton, will let him go. Apparently William is overseas. Thanks A51JM.
Britney heats up Christmas in New York
New York Daily News Online reported for the last six years, WHTZ (100.3 FM) has run the biggest and baddest pop Christmas show in town, Jingle Ball. Preformers include Ricky Martin, Britney Spears, Third Eye Blind, the Baha Men, Barenaked Ladies, 98 Degrees, MYA, Nine Days, Mandy Moore and Jessica Simpson. The concert will be held on December 14 at Madison Square Garden. Dotmusic at also reported more news of this. Thanks A51JM.
Britney responds about Madonna
What's up with Madonna ''Like a Virgin'' Ciccone and Britney ''Still a Virgin'' Spears? As EW.com reported earlier this week, the former's New York City miniconcert, held Nov. 5 at the Roseland Ballroom, included head scratching nods to the top 10 teen queen. Not only did Maddy sport a sleeveless black tee emblazoned with Britney's glittery name, she dedicated the ballad ''What It Feels Like for a Girl,'' from her latest album, ''Music,'' to the buxom Britster. ''It was a fun, lighthearted tribute,'' explains Madonna rep Liz Rosenberg. Britney responded with a deliberately ''aw shucks'' statement: ''She's my idol. For her to dedicate -- [even] ironically -- my favorite song on the album is incredibly flattering and sweet.'' But some present for the free performance thought Madonna's name check was less about giving props than putting a copycat, midriff baring upstart in her place. ''There are originators and duplicators,'' says hip hop bluesman Everlast, who opened the show with an acoustic set. ''And Madonna was just letting it be known, 'Don't be fooled by ''TRL.''' We all know who was doing this first, who made it all right for all these girls to dress skimpy.''

Britney was supposed to be in "Little Nicky"
Chicago Sun Times reported that Britney Spears almost played Adam Sandler's angel mother in "Little Nicky," but at the last minute, director Steve Brill had second thoughts about casting her. "Originally, we thought [Spears] would be fun as the mother to the spawn of Satan," says Brill. "But then we thought it would just be a little strange. She brings a lot of baggage to the role." In fact, casting the teen queen mother of Sandler proved the most problematic part of the movie. "In an early draft, Adam Sandler, whose father is Satan, is sent to heaven to find his mother. And she's Susan Sarandon in a cottage--a wise, beautiful woman." In the end, it became Reese Witherspoon, whom Brill describes as "someone who was younger, but also warm and funny plus could act it a bit bitchier like a high school head cheerleader." Thanks A51JM.
Britney is not going to be in Grease 3
music365 reported that Britney Spears may not be playing a vamp in a new version of the hit movie Grease, but she is hot favourite to play a greaser in a vampire flick. The teen singer tops a wish list to play one of the all-singing, all-dancing undead in The Lost Girls, a belated sequel to the 1988 movie The Lost Boys, which starred Kiefer Sutherland and Jason Patric. Joel Schumacher, director of the first film, is currently working on the script of the follow-up, which will revolve round a gang of teenage biker girls who also happen to be vampires. Casting is still a long way off, but Schumacher has said that he would like the film to star singers who have yet to make the transition to Hollywood. Spears, meanwhile, will not be making Grease 3 with 'N Sync as earlier hinted in movie circles. RSO, the company which produced the money-spinning original film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John plus the flop sequel featuring Michelle Pfeiffer, have allegedly blocked any plans to revive the franchise. Thanks A51JM.
Britney Spears to Write Parable
Inside is reporting that Britney Spears is shopping a work of fiction. According to a publishing executive whose house was pitched the idea on Friday, Vigliano Associates agent David Vigliano is representing Spears and her mother, Lynne Spears, who plan to co-write a Mother's Day parable to be published by May 2001. Lynne is expected to make the rounds of publishers next week. (Britney is currently on tour in Europe.) According to an editor who was pitched the book, the trim-size gift book will be in the same vein as the bestseller The Christmas Box, by Richard Paul Evans. But instead of touting Noel, it will be all about daughters and mothers. Spears is no stranger to success in the book-publishing world. In May, Three Rivers Press published the paperback original Britney Spears' Heart to Heart, also written by Spears and her mother. A Crown executive estimates that sales are well over 150,000 copies.

Britney Thrice Pierced
New York Post reporeted that Britney Spears is turning herself into one hell of a sexpot. Warner Bros. online reports Britney, 18, who did a startling striptease act for the MTV Music Video Awards in September, had her nipples pierced in April while shooting a video in Hawaii. The pop tart, who recently moved to Gotham, already had a belly-button pierce, which she flaunted in the "Oops . . . I Did It Again" video. A rep for Spears didn't return calls.

Madonna wears Britney Spears T-Shirt
New York Post reported that Madonna played the Roseland Ballroom last night. While you'd be hard pressed to call her five-song set a concert, the brevity of the
engagement made little difference to the 3,000 fans who packed the club. No complaints were being muttered, since the show was a fan-appreciation freebie from the not-so Material Girl. The show opened with Madonna and her boy-toy
dance troupe on Roseland's secondary stage. Beneath a giant American flag, and on top of a '65 Ford pickup truck, stood Madonna, poised to sing the appropriate "Impressive Instant." The gap-toothed siren looked terrific in
her painted-on pleather pants, a tight tank top that sported the words "Britney Spears," a cowboy hat and boots. To go see the picture, go here. Thanks A51JM.

Britney Spears Partied in Leipzig, Germany
WENN reported that Britney Spears' night of cocktail drinking cost the sexy starlet a whopping $12,000 (£8,000). The OOPS...I DID IT AGAIN singer paid a fortune to take over a swanky German nightclub to celebrate Halloween, then spent the evening downing trendy cocktails - and stunned locals by dancing on a bartop. The curvy star lived it up while on tour in Leipzig, Germany, where she was seen smoking cigarettes and drinking vodka - in shocking contrast to her squeaky-clean public image. At the end of the night, the shaky star left the club holding a cocktail glass - and left her designer coat inside. An onlooker said, "Britney looked like a woman enjoying herself, not some little girl. She said she was having a ball." Also The Sun, MTV Asia, and dotmusic all reported stories about it. Thanks SonicBS723.
UPDATE: We got 45 pictures of Britney Partying in Leipzig, Germany, for you to check out.
Britney on Eminem's Notebook
RollingStone.com">RollingStone.com reported that for the first time in recent memory, Eminem is at a loss for words. The rapper was on a Delta Airlines flight from Cincinnati to New Orleans when a notebook containing his lyrics went missing. The notebook has a picture of Britney Spears on its front cover, and was in a shopping bag shopping bag which also contained a discman, headphones and CDs. The book is described as containing work that is "extremely important" to Eminem, and the rapper is offering "a very generous" reward for its return. Information should be sent found@eminem.com.
Britney Spears' Stalker Confesses in a Song
WENN reported that a man claiming to be Britney Spears stalker has owned up to the crime - and he's part of a shocking rock band whose work is published on the Internet. THE SUNBABIES' whole album, SUCK, is downloadable from website MP3.com and includes such titles as A LOVE SONG FOR BRITNEY, BRITNEY STRIPPED ON TV and BRITNEY SUCKS, SO CAN I. And fans have been shocked by the lyric on A Love Song For Britney which
reads, "You know that stalker who got arrested outside your house, that was me." Security was upped around the young singer when a stalker broke into her
Louisiana home and took pictures of himself sitting in her bath last month. The initially light-hearted tune takes a turn for the worse when the singer,
backed by gentle, lilting guitar melodies, croons, "Britney spears is a f ing c " and lays into the OOPS...I DID IT AGAIN singer for having "silicone tits." But one older fan is dismissive of the band, saying, "I hope Brit doesn't hear about this, she's had a bad enough time with stalkers already and it's bad news that someone is making fun of her ordeal." Thanks SonicBS723.
Listen to Britney's Music on your Cell Phone
WENN reported that now you can listen to Britney Spears, N'Sync, or even Limp Bizkit on your Sprint PCS [PCS] wireless Web phones while tapping out instant messages to your classmates. The latest wireless product from the folks in Kansas City - Sprint PCS My Music - will give not only teens, but anyone with a cell phone who can tell the difference between B flat and C sharp, the ability to create, manage and store digital music collections online. In partnership with Seattle-based HitHive, a digital music network provider, Sprint PCS is offering a product that HitHive CEO Mark Tucker said "will revolutionize the way people experience and purchase music." Music lovers come in all shapes and sizes, of course, but let's face it - even the most jaded Baby Boomer probably will admit they spent more money on Beatles albums when they were young than they do now. It's that insatiable teenage need for constant sensory stimulation that Sprint PCS is banking on to fuel the demand for My Music, said HitHive spokeswoman Cynthia Land. Thanks SonicBS723.

BMG Selling Britney's Music On Napster
Associated Press reported
under a deal announced Tuesday, Bertelsmann said it was teaming with the Napster service to develop what the partners characterized as a new, secure membership-based distribution system that will guarantee payments to artists.
In exchange, the German media giant will drop its lawsuit against Napster once the new system is in place. Bertelsmann will also loan Napster money, make its music catalog available, and gain the right to buy a stake in the company. Bertelsmann's move marks a sharp break with other members of the music industry, which have sued Napster for copyright infringement and sought to have the service shut down. A court decision is expected in the coming weeks. Thanks A51JM.
